An Elegant Colection For Your Wedding
Few people realize that having a beautiful wedding does not require spending their entire savings.
If you're planning a wedding, learning where to cut costs and how to budget will leave you with money to spare.
"There are many ways to have the wedding of your dreams without the nightmare of huge bills," said Anna Griffin, wedding industry expert and designer of the Wedding Studio line of wedding products. "You just have to be resourceful."
Here are some tips from Griffin on how to create a designer wedding on a budget.
* For something old, wear a vintage wedding dress.
You can save hundreds on a wedding gown by shopping in consignment or vintage shops, in newspaper classifieds and on the Internet.
You also can update your mother's, grandmother's or aunt's wedding dress with a new neckline or hemline, beading or lace.

QUESTION:
Which company is your favorite on Amazing Wedding Cakes?
I'm sure I'm not the only one on Yahoo Answers who watches Amazing Wedding Cakes! Which company is your favorite?
Cake Alchemy
Cake Girls
Christopher Garren's Cakes
Merci Beaucoup CakesI think I like Cake Alchemy the best, or Cake Girls (their place actually burned down a few weeks ago!) What about you guys?
-
ANSWER:
Well, I like them all for different reasons, but as far as cake designs go, I'll have to go with Christopher Garren. They are amazing.Merci Beaucoup runs a close second...I love watching the two of them work together...they are such an odd couple.
I love the Cake Girls (partially because I live in the Chicago area), but some of their stuff is just too cutesy.
While I love the owner of Cake Alchemy and I think she's really talented, her cakes just aren't my style.

QUESTION:
Is mike's amazing wedding cakes the place to go?
I want to know if anyone got a cake from Mike's amazing wedding cake's from Washington? And if so could they send me pictures and would you recommend them to anyone?-
ANSWER:
They are beautiful, but very expensive cakes. Personally, I would go with something cheaper that tastes better. Fondant, which is used in most of the very decorative cakes, tastes really gross. Look for a simple cake with butter-cream frosting instead!

QUESTION:
Why wasn't Cake Alchemy's cake updated on Amazing Wedding Cakes?
On yesterday's show, 10-10-10, Cake Alchemy was making what Lauri called a Scroll cake. We saw the updates from Merci Beaucoup & Cake Girls, but not from Cake Alchemy. Did the clients not like the finished cake? Did something happen that wasn't allowed to be showed on the show? Or did the show run out of time & we'll get the update on next Sunday's show?-
ANSWER:
Ya know what...You're right! They didn't show it and I wonder why.I love this show...and specifically Lauri and the girls that work with her. They are so awesome. I love when she gets so excited about a non traditional cake that is fun to make.
I already deleted the episode from my DVR or I'd go back and make sure they didn't show the couples reaction but I don't remember it, while I remember the other two. I loved the colors on the cake Reva and Marc did at Merci Beaucoup but not the bottom tier, the way the green fondant was draped. It didn't look professionally done to me.
Did you know that the Cakegirls shop burned down in March of this year? Well, it was the apartment above it that had the fire and it spread to their shop...so what we're seeing, obviously was filmed before the fire happened. I think it was March 29th. Anyway...it'll be interesting to see if they talk about the fire at the end of the season.
Lauri is my favorite.
Reva and Marc - 2nd favorite
Cakegirls.
Christopher Russom from Christopher Garren's cakes - drive me batty! I bet he's an a&& to work for!

QUESTION:
Who Looks At "Amazing Wedding Cakes"?
I found this show by accident. I think it is on the WE channel. The cake decorators can make cakes look like anything and it is all edible or should I say about 95% of it is edible.
The few times I saw the show they made a wedding cake look like a birch tree and a couple in car driving down a Hollywood street the background(street lights and the street sign) was cardboard but the car and the couple sitting in the care were cake. The cake car was just awesome.
This show is really good.

QUESTION:
Where is an amazing bakery around the Philadelphia that makes great wedding cakes?
Gettin married and want to know some bakeries to check out. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Sam's, Costco, Walmart. I know, I know, they don't sound like great places but we used them for my friend's wedding after we got her shower cake there and saw their book. The cake was exactly what she wanted, half the price, and tasted very very good. It was just the traditional white/yellow cake with the buttercream and a chocolate layer, covered all white with a colored ribbon and the swiss dot piping. Nobody thought that's where we got it from.

QUESTION:
How do you thank someone for making you an amazing wedding cake?
I just got married this weekend and my husband's uncle and wife made our wedding cake. He only makes cakes as a hobby but it looked amazing and very professional. He even took several days off work to make it and didn't sleep the night before the reception just so he could finish it. It was a 3-tier and there were over a hundred handmade roses and it was completely covered in foundant. He also made an amazing violin groom's cake and oversized cupcakes to go with it. He would not let us pay for any of it. How do we thank them (besides saying thank you)?? I feel like we need to do something. BTW, we priced cakes and this cake would have cost us 0+ had we bought it from a cake shop or bakery, and who knows what the violin cake might have cost. Do we send money, a gift card, flowers....?????? Please help! Sorry so long. I added pics below just in case you want to see the cakes.

ANSWER:
Amazing cake...and what a truly great gift. Was this their wedding gift to you? If so, then it's a generous gift that will long remain a special part of your day. And if it was the gift they gave you then accept it gracefully -- you don't have to "pay them back" for it. Having a nice dinner with them is a great idea but try to understand that for the creator of something this lovely...simply making it was gratifying to him. His staying up all night and taking off work to do it was his choice and most likely one of the best things he has devoted his time and energy to all year. Enlarge a photo of the cakes and frame it---give it to them so they can display the creation...but don't cheapen the gift by attempting to pay for it...let them have the joy of giving it

QUESTION:
Why do you put dowels in a wedding cake?
I love watching Amazing Wedding Cakes, but I always see them hammering dowels or little pipes into the cakes. and I think they said somewhere that it's to keep the cakes from crushing each other, bt how exactly does that work? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
Yes, it's to keep the upper tiers from squashing the lower tiers. Each tier has a cakeboard under it, which is a piece of cardboard cut to size. The cakeboard rests against the dowels in the lower tiers.
Basically, it's like putting a tier on a plate and holding the plate up with evenly spaced columns that happen to go through a bottom tier.
Hope that helps.

QUESTION:
Where can I get a good wedding cake??
I'm getting married and want a gorgeous, over the top, amazing wedding cake. I loved Katie Price and Peter Andre's wedding cake style. Money is not a poblem, it's just the place to get it. Any ideas??-
ANSWER:
Your best bet is to start by looking in your yellow pages. Not sure where you live, but in a smaller town you may have a problem getting exactly what you want. You may want to call the places in your area where receptions are held and ask them where the majority of the cakes come from, they may have some inside knowledge of who to go to and who to avoid!Happy Wedding!!!

QUESTION:
Any Wedding Cake Experts Out There?
One of my favorite shows is Amazing Wedding Cakes on WeTV, and the Cakegirls are my favorites on the show. I'm in the process of planning my wedding, and I would LOVE to have them make our cake, but we live 4.5 hours away. My question is whether or not, if we decided to order our cake through them, would our cake hold up for the car ride? Has anyone ever purchased from them before?-
ANSWER:
I've never purchased a cake from them, but this is a question you need to ask them directly. They will deliver the cake to you and some bakers actually have refrigerated trucks that they use for deliveries. Give them a call and talk to them about a cake and delivery and your concerns because they are the only ones that can answer them for you.

QUESTION:
Poll: Whats your favorite tv show about weddings or wedding related things?
A: Bridezillas
B: Whos Wedding is it Anyways?
C: Platinum Weddings
D: Married Away
C: My Fair Wedding
E: Say Yes to the Dress
F: Amazing Wedding Cakes
G: Rich Bride Poor Bride
I: I Propose
J: Buff Brides
K: My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding-
ANSWER:
I like quite a few of the ones you mentioned- my guilty pleasure ; )Get Married is okay- but Colin is kind of full of himself, they only seem to have like 5 episodes and they obviously push their advertisers on you
I Propose- don't care for it, not all men are this romantic and it kind of annoys me to sit there and watch a silly cute little couple in their perfect, romantic little world. Give me a show where we get to learn about the REAL proposals out there...the good, the bad and the ugly.
Married Away- still on?
Platinum Weddings- makes me want my rustic back yard wedding that much more.
Buff Brides- wow, when is that on? I'd like to see one called "Buff Grooms" ; )
Say Yes to the Dress- YES!!
Amazing Wedding Cakes- kind of fun, but watching these people handle the cakes makes the cake seem less yummy.
Bridezillas- like watching a car wreck, you know you really should look away but just cant!
But my FAVORITE would have to be B) Whose Wedding Is It Anyway. It's a classic!!

QUESTION:
How much do wedding cakes cost?
I was watching the TLC show Cake Boss, and those cakes are like AMAAZING they make all kinds of cakes, not just wedding cakes. But you wouldn't even believe it!
http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/cake-boss/slideshows/cake-photos.html
Go to this link and look at all of them. You will be amazed!
But just wondering out of curiosity, how much would these cost?-
ANSWER:
Because it's from a famous bakery and they are mostly intricate designs, you're looking at - per slice to start.how much would you pay for this wedding cake?http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/rr86/yoo_lacey/cherry-blossom-wedding-cake.jpgIt's a light white ivory cake with a creamy custard filling and french butter cream icing. It has a fondant outside and the design is a cherry blossom branch. It serves 130 guests.that's probably 9 to 11 dollars a slice (minimum).I'd say between $1170.00 and $1430.00 for the cake....I was getting quotes from my local, definitely NOT on TV famous bakeries and some quotes I got for a plain white fondant covered cake with just ribbon trim was , that's before we had even discussed putting actual decoration on the cake!
We found a bakery that is doing it for MUCH less than that quote ... but for a famous bakery like the Cake Boss or Ace of Cakes one, I'm guessing an actual decorated cake would be like a slice!
Add: I just looked up Charm City Cakes (the place from the show "Ace of Cakes") and this is the info about pricing from their site:
How much are your cakes?
Because all of our cakes are priced individually by the complexity of their design, we do not have a standard price list.Due to the care we give to each cake and the one-of-a-kind nature of each order, we require a minimum of 00 on all of our cakes.

QUESTION:
Fashion/Cake designers, wedding coordinators, and females alike! Opinions, advice, critique?
Recently, I got wedding fever lol. I watch lots of reruns of My Fair Wedding with David Tutera, Say Yes to the Dress, and Amazing Wedding Cakes. I thought, "You know, I've never really thought much about my wedding. I want to have some fun!"I started looking around at online wedding dress and cake designers, but none of them (no, not even weddingdresscreator.com) offered the things that I wanted in my dress and cake. So, I decided to design them myself! Let me know what you think:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/58005432@N03/5334969380/
Please forgive the poor quality of the photos. I took them with my ipod and uploaded them as is.
The dress will be chiffon over satin, and the top of the dress WILL remain the same no matter what you say, but I'm flexible about the skirt. I had no clue what to do as the waist, I just drew something that looked pretty! My figure is almost the exact same as in the drawing. My dress budget will probably be around ,500 to ,000 (,500 MAX with alterations).
The cake is supposed to be the "cushion" effect on the tiers, with little edible pearls in the cross sections. I've seen it done before and I love it! The tiers are separated by flowers (I REALLY want them to be gum-paste!) Price range of less than ,000?
The blue flowers in both are rhododendrons, my flower of choice for my wedding.
I'm really debating whether to have my wedding in the summer (when rhododendrons grow) or to have it on my current anniversary, Nov. 4.
Any tips, opinions, advice, critique, suggestions, etc. would be GREATLY appriciated!
-
ANSWER:
it might be interesting to add a dropped waisteband which sort of angles across to the flower or to add some angled gathers in the waist area with come together at the flower. but instead of a flower, perhaps a cluster of beads or at least a beaded flower.love the rhododendrons.

QUESTION:
Big problem with our wedding theme?
We are having a 1930's art deco old hollywood glam wedding theme.
Our invites will look something like this
http://www.preciouslittleprints.com.au/PLP%20DESIGN_files/art_deco_3_fold_wedding_invitation_9x13.jpg
or
http://www.vintageglamblog.com/Images/Shopping/art-deco-wedding-invitation.jpgWe want our invites to scream formal even without having to tell guests on the invite itself that it's black tie. (Well we don't care if men don't wear tuxedos. As long as they are in suits)
Our wedding cake idea
http://thebridescafe.typepad.com/my_weblog/images/2008/02/24/c5.jpg
http://www.wetv.com/photo-galleries/amazing-wedding-cakes-cake-alchemy/art-deco.htmlWell I think I've found some really beautiful bridesmaid gowns. They are black and long. The men will be in classic black tuxedos with tails.
My problem is my dress. I don't like any of the art deco hollywood inspired wedding gowns. I don't want to mess up our whole theme by getting a ball gown. Maybe that will be okay though?
Do you think a ball gown fits into the theme?
http://marysbridal.com/bridal/8622.htm (this is the one I think. I've tried it on like a billion times and I keep going back to this one)This one is the runner up http://marysbridal.com/bridal/8678.htm
The problem I have is I'm 6ft and 170 pounds. I have a large chest and the dresses I've tried on just don't look right on me.
Garnet Glitter our first dance is going to be Cheek to Cheek! We are taking lessons to learn a similar routine. Of course no one can dance like Mr. Fred. I just love Ginger Rogers. I was thinking that maybe I could get like a fur shawl like the top of her dress in Top Hat.
I guess I just don't feel comfortable and attractive in the really slim dresses. The bird cage veil is a great idea also! My hair will be done in the wavy style that looks like it's gel to your head.
-
ANSWER:
The dress you keep going back to is probably the one you will want to get but it will need to be bustled so you can glide across the dance floor like Ginger Rodgers. You can actually get that dress for under 0 btw.You might be too hot with the fur shawl that is in Top Hat especially since you want to be comfortable.
I would also choose your dress to be in an ivory or champagne as white would take away from your theme.
Since your hair will be done in a 1930's style instead of a veil (although the birdcage would look nice) you could wear a swarowski crystal with feathers like the old Hollywood stars of the 30's

QUESTION:
Need help with the wedding!?
ok well not so much as the wedding itself but more with the cake. i am always watching Amazing Wedding Cakes and other shows like that to get ideas. But with my Fiancee, he has a total different view. We are clashing here! I am more of the modern romantic so i want a cake that incorporates that but id like it to be non traditional. Now his vision is totally off the wall! He is a country boy so he wants to incorporate tractors, barns, and the whole ten yards. How in the world can we combine these two visions? I want your opinions first before we head to the cake people.-

Here are some links of ways that I think you can put them together! Hope this helps!http://media.photobucket.com/image/farm%20style%20wedding%20cake/kandkcreations/CowCake0.jpg (If you want to lean more towards the cute side)

QUESTION:
I'm looking for a pic of the cake Chris did of pleats on brides dress.?
It had 5 or 6 cakes on bottom then more stacked on top. It aired on Amazing Wedding Cakes but I cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find this pic or one with similar number of cakes. The design doesn't really matter just looking fo the set up. Thanks.-
ANSWER:
Maybe some of these will be what you are looking for. I remember the pleating, but wasn't completely sure about how cakes were arranged.Scroll down, there are a couple different ones that I think are possibly close to style you are looking for down lower on page, Aimee for example)

QUESTION:
Tons of wedding questions:?
So I just posted about how much the wedding planning isn't a big deal to me. I don't have a lot of requests, but seeing that my fiance is wonderful and wants a truly special occassion, I want to help plan a great day.1) How much are invitations? My mom might make them (she's so talented), and if not, I saw Michaels has gift packs.
2) I do NOT want alcohol at my wedding. Period. I don't drink, my fiance rarely drinks, and we have alcoholics coming. What's the protocol for letting people know? My mom suggested champagne toast, but apple cider sounds better in my mind.
3) Is it completely lame to have a fake cake (styrofoam model) for the wedding and other cake in the back (my mom and I might bake the cake- she has great secrets for amazing wedding cake but is nervous about constructing one). My fiance comes from a country where this is completely normal - the fake cake decorated like a real cake - you can't tell unless you stick your finger in it.
4. How much was your wedding dress? I'm looking for a semi-nice dress without a lot of fuss. I'm average size (8/10) and do NOT want strapless since I am modest. I like all the styles of dresses from the bust down but can't find anything with straps I like.

ANSWER:
WHITE WEDDING CAKE THAT WILL SERVE 150Use an 8, 12 and 16 round layer cake pans. You may bake your cake up to 1-3 months ahead of time, and freeze wrapped in heavy duty aluminum foil. Always thaw cake completely before icing. Your cake will still be fresh and easy to ice because it will still be firm.
I use white Duncan Hines Super Moist cake mix. One box cake mix yields 4-6 cups of batter. To make layers follow directions on package.Use 15 cups of batter for a 16 inch round layer (1/2 to 2/3 full. Use 10 cups of batter for a 14 inch round layer. Use 7 1/2 cups batter for 12 inch round layer. Use 3 cups batter for 8 inch round layer (1/2 to 3/4 full). Use 2 cups butter for 6 inch round layer.
To begin preheat oven to specified temperature on package mix. Generously grease the inside of the cake pans with solid vegetable shortening. Use pastry brush to spread the shortening evenly. Make sure all sides are evenly covered. Pan bottoms may be lined with waxed paper after greasing. There is no need to flour pans with this method. They unmold easily.
You can sprinkle flour inside of pan and shake the pan back and froth so the flour covers all the greased surface. Tap out excess flour and if any shiny spots remain, touch up with more shortening and flour. This important step will prevent cake from sticking to the pan.
Bake cake according to temperature and time specifications in recipe instructions on package. Remove cake from oven and let cool 10 minutes in pan on cake rack. Larger cakes need to cool about 15 minutes.
To remove cake from pan, place cake rack against top of cake and turn both cake and rack over. Lift pan carefully. If cake will not release from pan, return to warm oven 250 degrees for a few minutes. Repeat procedure if necessary. Cool cake completely, at least 1 hour. Then brush loose crumbs off cake and it is ready to ice. I use Butter Cream Frosting.
BUTTER CREAM FROSTING:
1/2 c. solid vegetable shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. clear vanilla flavoring
4 c. sifted confectioners sugar, approximately 1 lb.
2 tbsp. milkCream butter and shortening with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at high speed until light and fluffy. Keep icing cover with damp cloth until you're ready to use it. For best results keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use. You can refrigerate icing in airtight container for 2 weeks. Rewhip before using. Yields 3 cups.
Substitute all vegetable shortening, clear vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring for pure white icing and stiffer consistency.Add 2 more tablespoons milk or corn syrup per recipe to thin for icing cake. Add more confectioners sugar or chill icing to stiffen.

Which would you rather have?-

QUESTION:
Amazing cake recipes?
I live in a large town with (seriously) no local bakeries.. except for the ones at the grocery stores. I'm looking into making cakes/cupcakes/etc. just for fun and possibly making a small little gig out of it. I know the best thing to do would be to come up with my own great recipe, but i'm curious to know if anyone knows of some really great cake recipes that go over and beyond the basic store bought cake mixes. It's hard to pin point the ingredients in amazing cakes and cupcakes from bakeries. Being a wedding cake fanatic, i'm looking for that kind of taste in my recipes. Any advice or ideas? Websites? Thanks in advance. Also, I would much rather start off with yummy, pretty white cakes.. rather than throwing in too many nuts and random things in the mix.

QUESTION:
alright, sooo, i wanna make wedding cakes...?
im like an amazing baker, .. well except with cookies. just something about them. ugh.
anyways. like i can make homemade cakes but only with cocoa powder and the recipe on the box.
like my dream is to make wedding cakes. and i just realized that i keep wasting time. SO, my moms getting me in classes on how to decorate cakes and stuff. but i dont know how to make wedding cakes. i know how to make regular cakes. but i know wedding cakes have to be sturdier. and how do i make them without recipes like some people do.
or does anybody know a place online where they have like a million recipes that are actually good. not the easy ones that google keeps trying to give me. hahah i mean, yeah, im gonna take classes on all of it. but id like to start practicing on my own. just any tips and advice ?
please and thank you-
ANSWER:
Take the cake decorating classes that your mom is getting you into. Then when you graduate HS and still want to make cakes, then attend a professional culinary school and learn how to do it professionally, as there is a lot more to cake decorating etc. than just putting the frosting on the cake..... I would recommend Le Cordon Bleu , The Culinary Institute of America, or Johnson & Wales University, There is probably a Le Cordon Bleu school program in your area.

QUESTION:
How do you feel about fake wedding cakes?
A lot of people are having fake wedding cakes and just having sheet cakes to cut and feed everyone with.. What is your opnion on this. I am having mixed thoughts.. I really am thinking about it for my fall wedding because I want a pretty large cake and it is sooo costly then to just serve sheet cakes? Its a great idea but do you think that it is tacky? they look amazing and real but like 50 bucks vrs 300.. lol Just wanted some other peoples thoughts on this.. lol
Maybe I should add some details. The buttom to cakes are fake with REAL icing the top cake is real and thats what you CUT! Lots of bakers hate making "smashed cakes" bc serving of those cakes are horrible! So buttom two fake top one real (another made for us to take for freezing) then we can cut a real cake and serve real cake the excat same baker would do both. I could just have a huge cake and not be wasting it.. Does that help-
ANSWER:
I think it's a great way to save money. Wedding cakes, while they take a lot of work to make and decorate, are so overpriced. a slice for cake?! I could buy a full meal for that!I think it makes perfect sense to have a display cake and then just serve cut slices of a sheet cake, the venue cuts it up in the back anyway, no one will know. That being said, you have to balance the fake cake with the number of guests. It doesn't really make sense to me to have a giant 6 tier baked good for display when you only have 100 guests (when a 3 tier would feed them all). If you do a fake cake get one that would be big enough to serve your guests if it was the real thing, so it doesn't look suspicious when there are no left overs.

QUESTION:
Amazing Lemon cake recipe? & filling?
Hi! I'm supposed to make an AMAZING lemon cake for a wedding. I'm in competition w/ a few other cake designers and I want the bride to pick me! Any recipes, hints, and/or tricks?
She wants lemon filling, too - any advice? Thank you!-
ANSWER:
sorry the recipe is so long, it has the cake, the filling and the icing! Hope it works out for you!Lemon Cake w/ Lemon Filling & Icing
INGREDIENTS
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 1/4 cups white sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon cornstarch
6 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup white sugar
4 egg yolks, beaten4 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
2 tablespoons milk
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 8 inch round pans. Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until incorporated.
Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes. Then invert onto wire racks to cool completely.
To make filling: In medium saucepan, mix together 1 tablespoon lemon zest, 1/2 cup lemon juice and 1 tablespoon cornstarch until smooth. Mix in 6 tablespoons butter and 3/4 cup sugar, and bring mixture to boil over medium heat. Boil for one minute, stirring constantly. In small bowl, with a wire whisk, beat egg yolks until smooth. Whisk in a small amount of the hot lemon mixture. Pour the egg mixture into the sauce pan, beating the hot lemon mixture rapidly. Reduce heat to low; cook, stirring constantly, 5 minutes, or until thick (not to boil).
Pour mixture into medium bowl. Press plastic wrap onto surface to keep skin from forming as it cools. Cool to room temperature. Refrigerate 3 hours.
To make frosting: In large bowl, beat confectioners' sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 1 teaspoon lemon zest until smooth. Beat in milk, and increase speed and continue to beat until light and fluffy.
To assemble: With long serrated knife, split each cake layer in half horizontally, making 4 layers. Place 1 layer, cut side up, on a serving plate. Spread with half of the lemon filling. Top with another layer, and spread with 1/2 cup frosting. Add third layer, and spread with remaining half of the lemon filling. Press on final cake layer, and frost top and sides of cake with remaining frosting. Refrigerate cake until serving time.

QUESTION:
If I combine these two cakes will it make an AMAZING looking one, or just a complete mess?
So my wedding is mainly yellow, and i do NOT want a yellow cake because I'm afraid it will just over power it. The bridesmaids dresses are yellow, flowers are shades of yellow, and tablecloths are yellow. Yes, I love yellow. But the wedding has a very vintage feel to it, so i was thinking either a very soft shade of blue, or a very soft green would look excellent.(mind you, i have NONE of these two colors in the wedding.)
if i combine these two cakes (the design from the first link, and color from the second) will it look okay or no.
(The cake is featured on the THIRD row
http://ruffledblog.com/vintage-inspired-wedding-cakes/(scroll ALL the way to the bottom and then up a little. Its the simple green cake)

ANSWER:
I think that design will look a lot better on a green cake than it does in the picture! Go for it!
