      White dresses are traditionally meant to be worn by virgins to symbolize purity - that's all it is, a tradition. Not a ton of women marry as virgins anymore yet they wear white. If they can wear white you can wear black.

      Besides it's only tradition. Not a rule - no place is going to turn you away.

      If you're marring in a church it may through people off a bit but if you're not I say go for it. People are going to say otherwise but I think it would be beautiful. Something lacy and strapless.

      the best thing about a wedding dress is it can be anything the bride wants. whats interesting is brides didn't start wearing white until the 1800's mostly because of queen victoria. the tradition continued to represent virginity or purity. in the middle ages, a green color was used to represent fertility. a black wedding dress was quite popular in Scandinavia. socially, black is considered to be a color of mourning, however its a very sophisticated color. to wear black represents mystery, class, elegance etc. not necessarily mourning. if you look up cultures around the world and the colors they wear on their wedding days its quite interesting. western cultures specifically wear white, but we're then only ones really. look into hindi weddings or asian. they're quite beautiful.

If women are expected to own a "little black dress" for festive occasions, why would a bridesmaid wearing black be funereal? It's not no matter who tries to tell you otherwise.

      To me, it may symbolize some jealous conscience she had about what you have in reality. Projecting black wedding dress could mean some sort of disrespect, and in her case, it could mean helpless and jealous conscience.

Or look up seamstress or dress maker in your phone book or on yellowbook.com and discuss with them what you are wanting. also you can google goth wedding dresses. Also look on ebay! The have a ton of GORGEOUS dresses on there. They custom make them (you give them specific measurements). You can pick WHATEVER color you want & they are reasonably priced too. I bought my dress from there and it looks like a 0 dress but actually cost me less than 0. I got mine in white w/hot pink trim (I'm a pink freak, lol).       If black flatters you, go for it. But, keep in mind that black is less forgiving of being made in a cheap fabric such as polyester satin than white. Up your budget some and get a dress in a natural fabric such as silk or cotton.

      I think it's okay. There's nothing wrong with a black wedding dress.

      Personally though, I think that it would look good with touches of white. It helps pull away from that "goth" look you're trying to avoid, and it makes the dress pop.

      I think it would be cute... I don't personally know if there is a "rule" against it... most of the time summer is a bit darker than spring bridesmaids colors and darker is more acceptable later in the year...

      You may want to check out prom dresses or bridesmaid dresses, though bridesmaid dresses may not be fancy enough for a wedding dress. It's up to you. Try this website called Shiny Orb. They have over ten thousand dresses there ranging from really casual to really fancy. I think the prom section might have some black dresses that could really double as a wedding dress.

      Why not? It's not unheard of for brides in white to have "all white" bridal parties. Many people think it looks very chic. So there's no reason why you can't do that with black. I assume you'll be wearing a veil, and that your gown will be fancier than a typical 'maids gown. And even if not, if the guests can't tell who the bride is, why are they at your wedding?!

      P.S. Don't listen to the uneducated kids on here who say you can't wear black. A bridal gown can be a variety of colors. White gowns became popular in Western culture in the past couple of hundred years because they were meant to signify that you were rich and could afford a gown that you would wear only once. There was no such thing as dry cleaning! You can thank Queen Victoria for that trend. Before that, a wedding gown was a bride's best dress...in any color. Poor brides typically wore their "Sunday Best". So a white wedding gown is NOT a long standing "tradition".

      Also, in Asian cultures, *white* is the color of mourning. Brides traditionally wear RED in Asian weddings, and beautiful multicolored bridal outfits are worn for East Indian weddings. Colored and black bridal gowns are also very popular in Europe. It is very rude for people to make comments about your gown based on their own narrow opinions, even more so when they may be insulting your culture. Many brides who like Gothic culture and/or are having Halloween weddings also prefer black gowns. I hate white, look terrible and washed out in it (I'm a pale blonde), and didn't want to look like a "McBride". So I had a custom made gown in baby pink. It looked great and I loved it! It's YOUR wedding, wear whatever you want!

      I think you can definitely pull off wearing the same color dress. You can work the orange into your bouquets. You can consider working some white roses into yours if you like to differentiate it. You may also want to consider a red gown, with red roses. Also very chic and "Gothic" looking.

    I am thinking of having either an all black, black and white, all red, or red and black wedding dress. For those of you who are a tad adventurous--basically not an open question to those who want to write negative remarks--what other colors other than white would you consider for a wedding dress?       I've seen a custom made bridal gown that was fuschia! It was gorgeous, and I loved it because it has never been done before out of all the weddings I've been to. The colors you selected sounds good. As long as the dress is fabulous then to hell everyone else girl!

      I have been to heaps of weddings where people have worn black. I would go with the black suit and wear a non-black top underneath (gray/silver, pink, or some other colour) and colourful accessories (Scarf, beads, shoes or whatever) to brighten it up.

    What do you think about a black and white wedding with bright colored flowers???
    Im not going for the goth look, i just loved the contrast of the two colors and i personally feel that baby blue and light greens are a little too eastery for a wedding and since my wedding is in April these are the more popular colors.       Hi and congratulations!

      To be honest....any color goes at anytime as far as I'm concerned! Black dresses will look very pretty against some bright colored flowers. You can do all one color....say PINK roses....PINK tulips....PINK gerbera daisies.....or a mixture of any of these flowers with other colors! I happen to think pink and black look very stunning together.

      It would also look very nice with the small sunflowers -- bright yellow!!

      I would find a pattern that she likes and then take it to a local seamstress. I've seen a black wedding dress and a purple wedding dress - but I can't seem to find a picture of the one that you are describing. An experienced seamstress will definitely be able to help.
