< 00004000 p>There are two things brides wish for when planning an outdoor weddinga"clear skies and sunny weather. But the heat and sun can really take their toll on your wedding centerpieces. At the start of the wedding, the tables are lovely. But halfway through the ceremony, flowers are drooping, sagging and wilting all over the place. Why? Probably because the wrong flowers were chosen. Rather than picking the flowers solely on color and style, you should consider sturdy, robust flowers that can take the heat if you're planning to be outside. According to Nancy Liu Chin Designs, planning centerpieces for weddings that will be exposed to the sun is a lot easier if you know which flowers to avoid.
Flowers That Can Take It
Most tropical and warm-weather flowers are used to being in the heat, and, in fact, they actually thrive in it. Consider sunflowers, birds of paradise, yarrow, thistle, statice, carnations, protea, marigolds, craspedia, Viking mums, button mums, celosia, mini callas, cattail, chinese lanterns, cornflowers pods, curly willow, branch materials, hypericum, montbretia, peonies, safflower, viburnum berry, berzilia pods, peres, agapanthus, allium, amaranthus, anthuriums, kale, crocosmia, gomphrena, sedum, skimmia, trachelium, nigella, and bells of Ireland.
Flowers That Can Fake It
Although not as sturdy as the ones mentioned above, these flowers should hold up fairly well in heat. You'll probably be okay if your wedding centerpieces include lilies, gerberas, godetia, hyacinth, ranunculus, zinnia, delphiniums, snapdragons, queen anne's lace, kangaroo paws, asters, astible, freesia, gladiolus, lysimachia, ornithogalum, lilac, irises, veronica, snowberries, fall antique hydrangeas and tight green hydrangea.
Flowers That Won't Make It At All
Whether they droop, shatter, go limp, brown, wilt, sag, shed, fall apart or open too fast, these flowers are known for fainting under fierce temperatures: roses, sweet peas, dahlias, garden roses, gardenias, hydrangeas, geranium, tulips, lisianthus, scabiosa, solidago and italian ruscus.
Of course, if there's an option to have the reception under a tent or at least where there is indirect sunlight, your chances of having beautiful centerpieces throughout the reception greatly improves. But if you're still not sure about about flowers or you want to avoid the hassle altogether, use branches and interesting foliage combinations. They will give your reception something a little unexpected and give a modern look to your wedding.

QUESTION:
Does anyone have pics of elegant gerber daisy centerpieces for weddings?
I'm getting married on August 1st and I really want to have gerber daisy centerpieces. (they are my favorite flower) My mom says that they really aren't elegant, and that they are way too informal for a wedding. Does anyone have any pics of elegant centerpieces that have gerber daisies as the main flower?-
ANSWER:
I kind of agree with your mom...they aren't very elegant. but if they are your favorite or you're not having a very formal/elegant wedding, then do what you want!! I too like gerber daisies, but realize that they are more suited for an outdoor/more casual affair.
Maybe you could have some simple centerpieces of gerber daisies for your shower or rehearsal dinner?
good luck!!

Does anyone have some DIY ideas for a cheap table centerpieces?
I'm throwing a renewal ceremony and reception for my parent's anniversary. But I've never done this before and I am on a budget (aren't we all). Just wanted to know if any of you have ideas on cheap centerpieces (either done at weddings or parties). It's their 40th which is ruby, maybe something with red in it?-

Red votive containers with tealights in them on a small piece of mirror. Red votive cups can be found at WalMart and Michaels (sometimes Big Lots) for right around 99 cents. Piece of mirror with beveled edges can be found at Michaels for .99 and bag of tea lights 100 for .99 at Big Lots. Five clustered looks just stunning and each one is under .

QUESTION:
Wedding Centerpiece recommendations please?
I am planning to design my own wedding centerpiece; a cylinder vase with rocks/marbles, filled with water, floating petals, and a lit candle. Will the rose petals float to the top? Is fresh, frozen, or silk roses recommended? Does the lit candle melt and destroy the design and will the centerpiece survive for several hours? Thank you!-
ANSWER:
It depends on how many rose petals you have in the centerpiece. Not all of them can float to the top. Also if you use real petals these will float to the top but the silk ones are a little more dense that you can place them in the vase and they will stay, but the water will cause the dye in them to turn the water the same color as the petals. Frozen petals won't work either because when the wax melts from the candles or they start to thaw they will curl and not look as pretty. Fresh is your best bet. If you get floating candles they are designed to burn in water, and can last for several hours depending on their size. If wax gets on a fresh flower it will dry. This sounds very pretty and best of luck.

QUESTION:
Wedding Fruit and Flower Centerpieces?
I've seen some neat pictures of other weddings that had centerpieces with fruit and flowers. I'm thinking of doing small square vases or fish bowls filled with orange slices and topped with pink roses (my colors are pink and orange). Has anyone done/seen this? Do I still fill the vase up with water? I've also seen it done with that clear gel that you add water to and it looks like crushed ice, but don't know what that stuff is called. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance for your help!-
ANSWER:
Here is a link for the gel http://www.save-on-crafts.com/wonderwater.htmlBest thing to do is a trial centerpiece. See which fruit, flower combo works best & suits your tastes. Keep in mind you will probably need someone to put these together the day of your wedding as you will be too busy with hair, make-up, photos, etc. Believe me, that day goes fast & you don't have as much time as you think.
If you do them the night before, make sure you arrange for transportation & set-up of these. Will the reception hall let you in a few hours before the reception? If the reception hall limits your time, one of your guests may not be able to do this for you & you will have to rely on your caterer, a day of coordinator, or an acquaintance that is not attending the wedding.

QUESTION:
Weddings... are tealights in metal cups safe as centerpieces? ?
I want an inexpensive option to add more light and color to the tables without the crazy cost, and thought 100 tea lights for would be perfect... To get the tall tea light glass containers would jack up the price quite high... I was thinking of either putting a few around the rose vases... These are long rectangular tables (8 seaters), but are they safe?http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/50097995

You can get votive cups for 33c each at Walmart in the craft section and they are tall enough to enclose the flame of a tealight. Yes they are very safe.

QUESTION:
Wedding Reception Tables?
I am a little concerned about the reception having too much white decor, the chivari chairs are white, the table linen is white and the tent we are having it in is white. The color scheme originally started out as black and white with purple and silver accents, but purple has become a key color the only thing black so far is the grooms tux and the groomsmen pants. We have jumbo purple and white lanterns to hang for lighting and will be using white and purple tulle over twinkle lights around the poles. Now for the actual tables I am torn between bringing in a black over lay and black napkins like this http://www.ouroneheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/black-and-white-wedding-theme.JPG
Or Purple napkins to offset the white like this http://www.athenahall.com/Untitled-14.jpg

For those who can't see the picture of centerpieces they are purple hydrangeas in a low clear vaseThe white linens are included in our rental package as it is, so we don't have the option of making the bottom linen black, plus I don't want it to be too dark either
-
ANSWER:
I think the purple will look lovely - but only use a little and it will stand out beautifully. I think the black and white is just a bit stark and sterile - and doesn't give as soft a look as the purple will. Don't be worried with too much white either - the people (you and your guests) will always make it look more colourful. I love the idea of the purple and white lanterns and maybe if you just have white napkins but with the purple hydrangeas I think that would be just perfect. Enough colour to make it pop but not too much to take away from the elegance of the occasion. If you wanted a little extra colour then use the silver instead of the purple or black - just to break the white up a bit. (You could do silver table runners or napkins, etc. - still with the purple lanterns and flowers - which could look nice.)

QUESTION:
Fruit in vases? What can I use?
I really like the fruit idea... like this...
http://weddings.theknot.com/Real-Weddings/Centerpieces_Low-Centerpieces_Green_25619/detailview.aspx?id=25619&type=3&wedding_details=Centerpieces&pageIndex=15&MsdVisit=1
But my colors are white, black and hot pink with zebra accents. Is there anything I can do to incorporate fruit into my clear vases? I have 3 cylinder shaped vases all different styles for each table. The vases will sit on a square mirror and there will be tea-light candles around with petals. Any ideas as to which fruit and color flowers I could use? Or will it be best to stay away from fruit and stick to flowers? What hot pink flowers are available for the end of this month? I'm doing it all myself just in case you are wondering why I don't have my flowers picked out yet. And I am on a budget...no more than 0 on flowers for all 10 tables. Thanks.
Can anyone tell me how to make the flowers float like this? Are they on a clear string or something?

ANSWER:
Um lemons with pink or red food coloring. Soak them in water that is colored pink with food coloring. It will turn them pink. Practice with the color a few days ahead. It will make a cute pink fruit to put in your drink. I know this will work because I have seen more than enough lemons stained by bar drinks to a pink or red color. hahah
Good luck.

QUESTION:
Wedding centerpiece, help!?
I really love the look of the ostrich feather centerpieces for weddings, but the feathers are very expensive. I'm wondering what you think could be a cute replacement for the feathers to put in the Eiffel Tower vase. I don't want to do flowers, because that can get pretty pricey too. Suggestions?
This is a link to the piece I like: http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/bevfabriccrafts_2121_1302110158-
ANSWER:
Peacock feathers tend to be cheaper, on top of that, the females ( they provide even more feathers than the males as generally there are more females born) are beige, brown and often white. You can actually buy them in bulk at your local craft stores. Places like michaels are really good about pre ordering these kind of things, check out customer service, tell them how much you need and pick them up! It will cost a lot less and you'll be able to put them together yourself, 86 the costs of the florist.I do want to add a quick snippet.
There are more creative ways to feathers without the typical holywood style. I know the glowing lights in the vase and lush feathers are striking but you may want to consider a more elegant way of using your feathers that isn't as often done.
One of my friends used beige feathers enclosed in her favorite authors novels, with the lumbago bursting forth like a dream from the book, she didn't need to use nearly as many feathers and it was personalized to her. I've also seen the plumage used in something of an upside down bouquet suspended from a clear (I'm assuming fishing wire) and repeated along a long table, it was amazing, airy and unique.
Definitely consider other ways of using this material, as I'm sure there are countless ways.Good luck!

I wanted to add a rental business onto my event planning company, can i rent out items I purchase from stores?

QUESTION:
I need help with centerpieces for my destination wedding~?
We are going to key west to have out wedding. Usually traditonal weddings, one person takes home the centerpiece. Obviously with everyone flying in I doubt they would want the floral centerpiece. The wedding will be held outdoors, so it will be hot! I wanted some suggestions on different beach themed centerpieces, one idea I was thinking about was having a bowl with water and seashells and having floating candles and flowers, anyone have any other suggestions. Something simple but unique!
i love everyones suggestions so far, the rock candy is a great idea!!!-
ANSWER:
You could have various shapes and sizes of glass bowls filled with water, floating flowers and floating candles and/or glass bowls filled with sand, sea shells and a small pillar candle in the middle of each bowl (set up in the sand).Or, you could get a little more creative and fill small square glass vases with sand and sea glass in your wedding colors or just blue and green to go with the beach theme with a small pillar candle in the middle. Or if you want a tasty centerpiece which could also serve as their favor, have the small square glass vases on each table filled with sand and then get the pretty rock candy on sticks and place them in the sand. You can order rock candy in any color you want to go with your wedding colors. Tie a small favor tag to the stick with a little message or even their name to double as a place card. The centerpieces would be colorful and they can take home a stick of rock candy as their favor.
Yes, most places WILL allow you to have glass, especially if it's vases, I see it done all the time. I don't think they're going to make your guests eat off of paper plates and drink out of styrofoam!

QUESTION:
Does anyone know what kind of flowers Springside Inn, Auburn NY use for their August weddings?
I'm having my wedding there in August and would just like an idea of what flowers they use for the centerpieces. I was told whatever is in season. How can I match my bouquets if I don't know what kind they'll be using. Help!
-
ANSWER:
they should use whatever you tell them to. ask for a list of available flowers so you can choose what you want. matching the bouquets isn't that important, the guests won't really pick up on that kind of thing and it won't matter for your photos.what I did was put an empty vase on my sweetheart table and where each of my attendants were sitting. that way they could put their bouquet in the vase to stand up as part of the centerpiece during the reception. I always hated laying a bouquet on its side on the table during dinner when I was a bridesmaid!

QUESTION:
Ladies will you tell me about your weddings, please?
So I'm helping my bestfriend plan her wedding and she has a very scattered idea of what she wants but is kind of wishy washy about it all. So, will you tell me about your weddings, specifically what were the best things about it, the worst things, color themes, and what do you wish you hadn't done or spent money on? What did you do as wedding favors and centerpieces? Do you have any advice for the bride-to-be?-
ANSWER:
I haven't had my wedding yet... we're about 4ish months away from ours. The best thing about our wedding? Having our friends and family with us to celebrate our life-long commitment to each other. You can have the cheapest, most simple wedding in the world made memorable by sharing it with the people you love.
The worst thing about a wedding is dealing with the DRAMA and stress. So make sure your friend has plenty of coping mechanisms in place to deal with all the crap that comes along with coordinating multiple free-willed individuals. Then there's the added stress of budgeting and deciding what to cut to stay within said budget. Ugh!
Our color scheme is just Aqua and Green. Instead of having an actual theme, we decided to just stick with colors. Sometimes people go overboard with themes and it ends up being uber tacky. I know I'm pretty prone to going overboard with things so I made a conscious decision to stick to a color theme instead of something that has more risk of being tacky.
At this stage in the game, I wish we had taken a harder stance with our wedding party. Our friends are incredibly dynamic and loud so when everybody is together at once, it's like a three-ring-circus. Everybody has an opinion on how WE should do things and, in the end, it's our wedding... Even though sometimes it feels like it's every body's BUT ours! I don't mean I wish I had been a witch, but I do wish I had made some things clear and firm from the get-go.
I'm happy with the amount we're spending. We're saving money by having strictly common daisies, which kind of added a Whimsical, casual element to our wedding. (And that's appropriate for OUR wedding anyway!) Our favors are going to be wild-flower seed packets that our guests can plant at their homes. We're also offering paper parasols for the ceremony because our ceremony is outside on Lake Michigan during the day... which means lots of sun... and there isn't any over-hang or cover for our poor guests. Plus, they allowed us to add a cute touch of color to our ceremony.
A color scheme is a really great place to start envisioning the look of a wedding. http://www.theperfectpaletteblog.com/ is an awesome blog FILLED to the brim with inspiration boards in just about every color combination imaginable. You can even search by color so if she has one favorite color, start there.
Our centerpieces are really super-simple. They are just clear vases with little bouquets of daisies in them. Super, uber simple. The most expensive part of our wedding is the food and we're happy with that!
As far as any advice for the bride-to-be - Make up your mind! If you don't have a very clear picture of what you want before you start buying things, you're going to end up spending a LOT more money on things you don't need or want. Make a list of things that you absolutely can't live without, a list of things you don't want to live without, and a list of things that you would like to have if there's any money left over after the first two lists are exhausted. Organize a binder with all of your vendor numbers, business cards, ideas, fabric swatches, pictures, etc. so that everything is all in one place. We keep ours on our coffee table so it's just about always within reach.
Most of all, be realistic. It's fun to watch all of those wedding shows on women-centric tv channels, but if you don't have half-a-mil to throw down on one day, you might end up feeling like your wedding just isn't good enough. While I loved those shows before we started actually planning, I had to step away from the television during the actual planning. It's really easy to get sucked into that 'Weddings Need To Be HUUUUGEE!' mentality, but it's not Realistic unless you're filthy rich. The point of a wedding is to celebrate the love and commitment of two people in love who are vowing the rest of their lives to each other... Not to have performing circus animals at dinner.
One last thing - Joining discussion boards in online communities like theknot.com and brides.com gives you a place to see what other brides have done, discuss things issues that come up, and get some really FANTASTIC ideas if you're unsure about your own wedding.

QUESTION:
Im getting married and i'm using centerpieces with lime filled vases..?
I have seen so many beautiful arrangements for weddings with limes in the vases and then flowers but my question is all the vases are lined so perfectly with limes how am i suppose to get the limes slices against the vases liek that to look perfect? Any ideas??-
ANSWER:
Hi Jessica:I know exactly what you are talking about! Those look so pretty! Yes, I have often wondered the same thing. And....I believe that limes usually float so you will have to work with it a little. But, obviously it can be done because we have seen how nice they look.
Here is what I would do:
~ definitely take your time and do a few "trials"
~ I would slice the limes.....then put in something else to "hold them" like some of those vase gems or something.....then put the flowers in....and then put the water in. See if that works.~ I think it will be just a trial and error thing to see what works out the best for you.
Good luck. Those are so pretty!

QUESTION:
Wedding Centerpieces- Candelabras?
I am searching for centerpieces for my wedding and was trying to cut costs so was thinking about using candelabras instead of flowers- what do you think? Do flowerless centerpieces look cheap? Here is the candelabra I found on eBay- http://cgi.ebay.com/WEDDINGS-Black-Beaded-Candelabra-SET-12-CENTERPIECES_W0QQitemZ120366554991QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item120366554991&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A6|294%3A50Thanks for your input!

Are most place settings for weddings built up from white china & then the colors come from linens & chargers?
So almost all of the china rentals that i've seen have been white. So do the colors just come from charger plates, linens, and the centerpieces? Also if my bridesmaid's color is coral, what other colors would go with that on for a beautiful table setting? The wedding is Sept. 6th. TIA-
ANSWER:
I would use the main plate and table clothes in white then use napkins, and center peices to add your colors

QUESTION:
What do you think of putting floral centerpieces on every other table, and non-floral on the remaining tables?
I am looking to cut costs in my wedding with my limited budget. I would love to have flowers in the centerpieces but can not really afford it. One of my bridesmaids suggested using flowers in half of the centerpieces, and non floral centerpieces for the rest (every other table). The non floral centerpieces would be similar to this: http://weddings.theknot.com/ODB/themes/realweddings/detailview.aspx?STOPREDIRECTING=TRUE&id=32772&type=3&wedding_details=Centerpieces&MsdVisit=1 ... but without the apple.Do you think it's okay to use different centerpieces at every other table?
The reason I wanted at least some to have floral arrangements is because my theme is Spring garden ... so it seems we need some flowers!I was worried about people feeling slighted for being seated at one of the tables without flowers ... but that seems silly to me now. Would you honestly feel that way? The non floral centerpieces are beautiful too.
Wow I'm surprised at how many people would take it personally if they were at a table without flowers! But honestly I can't imagine anyone in my family putting up a fuss about what kind of centerpiece was at their table.
Paulina: So funny you would post a link to that photo ... I have that photo saved on my computer for centerpieces but when I spoke to a florist about cost it was still beyond my budget.-
ANSWER:
Personally, I think it looks great. Don't have everything matchy matchy - it looks dull. Someone would feel slighted without flowers? Are you kidding? I'm sure they are going to your wedding to make sure that you put flowers on their table. You could try having tables with flowers and a few tea lights, then have tables with pillar candles and rose petals. I think it would look fabulous!
For my friend's daughter's upcoming wedding, we are doing the eiffel tower vases on 5 tables (corner tables and center), then short round rose arrangements with tea lights on 5 tables, then candles with petals on 5 tables. It's going to look great!

QUESTION:
Ideas for mountain weddings?
Im planning a wedding in the mountains, we rented a big gym for the reception, I need some ideas for centerpieces? The colors i like are pink, green and brown. I want to stay true to the mountain scenery but with modern class? What are things that i can incorporate in the decorations that would be low key casual, not fancy, but still beautiful and orginal?-
ANSWER:
I had a mountain wedding. I used mason jars for the centerpieces with wildflower arrangements in them. There was a tulle bow tied around the neck of them. Everyone absolutely loved them! We served lemonade out of metal pails (lined with plastic liners) and dipped with ladles. Favors were little mini jars of home-made jam with fabric on the lids tied with tulle. We had a local blue grass band play while people were waiting to go in to the reception and left the doors open so guests could hear them playing while they ate and mingled. We did gingham tablecloths with lace doily place mats and small clear flower pot votives. The gingham, lace and mason jars had a tremendous look with the votives giving great light under fluorescent! People are still talking about how beautiful the wedding was. You can pull it with style - just don't over-do it. Pick three or four things that say "mountains" to you and mix it with traditional things. It'll work! Send me a personal email if you want to bounce some stuff off me! Congratulations & fun wishes!

QUESTION:
What was popular/ trends for weddings in late 60's (mod not hippie)?
"Mod" Twiggy 60's not "flower child" hippie 60'sBridesmaids
Flowers
Food
Centerpieces
Colors
Ect.-
ANSWER:
Brides went simple, not big poofy dresses but just a straight smooth dress. Usually the dress would end above the knees, and it might have a little poof like a poodle skirt, or it could be straight. Off-white or cream was more popular than white and bright colors for the bridesmaids. Oranges, reds, yellows, lime or olive greens etc. also bridesmaid dresses were short and above the knee too. For flowers daisies, mums, orchids or lilies were popular especially if the colors were vibrant and matched the bridesmaids dresses. Centerpieces, were floating candles (cause they were the new hip thing) and sometimes just regular standing candle sticks with a moss ring and some little flowers tucked in around the base of the candle holder. Men could wear colorful suits and ties, or tuxedos with a bow tie and cumberband instead of a vest. As for hair beehives were popular for the bride, and just a half pony tail with a little flip or down for the bridesmaids.Hope this helps... what a cool wedding idea to go retro! Best of luck.

QUESTION:
Need business idea's..?
I want to start my own business from home. I am very creative, love working with shapes, colors, have such a great sense of style. I was thinking of designing real floral centerpieces, only chic designs incorporated with rich colors, and abstract designs. I want to not just create a typical centerpiece, but actually incorporate art in to these pieces. I have no background working with flowers. I am going to buy a few books, abstract vases and rich flowers and try out a couple of designs. I was thinking of creating at least 20-30 pieces and creating a catalogue and handing them out to banquet halls and advertising at churches (where most weddings take place). What do you guys think of this idea? Do you think brides/grooms would JUST hire/purchase centerpieces from a stage decorator? Would exclusively selling ONLY creative centerpieces limit me from gaining business from weddings? Any suggestions? Do you think I should also sell these centerpieces as decor for homes? If so, how would I market decor for homes? If I market my centerpieces only for weddings I know where to start my marketing..but for decor? How would I go about?Suggestions/Ideas needed please! Thanks
Thank you MJ.. can I get your contact info. I would love to ask you more questions.. you seem to have very good advice! Thanks-
ANSWER:
Brides and grooms will buy what they feel is beautiful and that they can afford. A product sells when there is a demand - created or natural. A catalogue is an excellent idea. But it must be as stunning as your designs. I would stay with the high end creations - homes decor and weddings - because you are good at it and enjoy the work, although I feel you need a stronger advertising plan. Perhaps a sustained saturation mail campaign to high end neighborhoods. Introduce your beautiful designs to furniture and accent stores, decorators - every contact you have, flower shops, wedding dress boutiques gift shops. Trade Shows - (for retailers only) Do the centerpieces at cost for organizations in your town, for fashion shows. You could perhaps have an exhibition in a chic hotel lobby - alone or in combination with another product. As you were a stage decorator you understand the importance of backdrops and display. Its all awesome work. Be ready for next Xmas - it's not too early! Catalogues are expensives, what would be cost effective are large photos in a chic personal folder with your business card of course. I cannot stress the importance of a perfect photo of your work. A professional photographer can make it all come to life. And if taken in different backgrounds can be be quite tempting and inspiring - which makes me think perhaps some of your ads could be a greeting cards with a word bout your Co. when you open the card. People often display or keep a beautiful card and would certainly remember your name. Good luck with those ads and don't forget a short exciting bio about yourself.

QUESTION:
Suggestions for weddings on a budget?
I need any suggestions for wedding on a budget!!!! Thanks!!! I've already looked at pre-owned wedding dresses and I'm making my centerpieces. But flowers and stuff??? any advice????-
ANSWER:
There are lots of great (and free!) websites available with ideas on how to save money on your wedding. I have received plenty of ideas from the internet for my 00 budget wedding. I mostly use theknot.com but I have also just googled things like "low budget wedding" and "cutting costs on your wedding" and helpful ideas have popped up. Here is some of what we are doing to cut costs:1. cutting out transportation costs by using our own vehicles rather than renting a limo
2. having a cash bar rather than open bar to eliminate the cost of the bar tab. If you are worried about that looking "tacky" then cut out the alcohol altogether, or just serve wine.
3. using candles for center pieces rather than flowers since they can be quite expensive
4. finding a dress on sale
5. getting the groom's tux rental for free if the groomsmen all rent theirs at the same store
6. get a small two tier decorated cake, and have sheet cake in the back cut up for guests. This is much cheaper than buying a large tiered cake to serve all the guests with, and they won't even notice the difference.
7. we are serving a buffet meal at a local restaurant that was a reasonable price ( per person) but if you are on a very tight budget you could have your wedding at a time when it doesn't overlap with a meal. You could simply serve deserts or hor d'oeuvres at your reception.
8. skip the wedding planner and plan it yourself
9. do as much as possible yourself and with your friends and family. We are making our own center pieces, decorations, invitations and save the dates.
10. we are having a relative take our photographs since they are amateur photographers and have professional equipment. This will save us about 00 or more!

QUESTION:
Blue and Purple Wedding Dress and Centerpiece HELP?
Blue is the main color and purple is the accent color.
1) The ceremony will be deemed with blue and purple lighting with blue and purple flowers but I am wearing a A-line white dress(building it from the fabric up) but I think I should have some blue somewhere, what do you think?2) Any ideas for a center piece I DONT want to spend like 0,000 on purple and blue roses balls(planners idea) that will die but I know I am getting real amethyst gems to hang from the center pieces that is the only bling aside from the cake monogram toppers and bouquets too much bling is getting played out I have seen it on every episode of Platinum weddings.
Ideas on centerpieces please?3) The bridesmaid dresses are blue but do you think they should have amethyst jewelry since the wedding colors are blue and purple?
The budget is 2 million SERIOUSLY (really 1.3M is for the wedding, the rest will be spent on jewelry, dresses, tuxedos, gifts for wedding party)
We do have a planner that's why I was asking about the centerpieces because she says I can have blue and purple rose balls with a long skinny vase with gems hanging but the flowers alone would cost me 0K which is a total waist because flowers die.-
ANSWER:
Two Million Dollars on a wedding. Seven Hundred Thousand of which is just for jewelry, clothes and gifts??? This is very hard to believe. Anyone with that kind of money would seriously have a wedding planner or five and would not be on Yahoo Answers asking strangers for advise.Putting my skepticism aside....yes, contact the family jeweler for the Amethyst jewelry for the bride maids
Contact the family floral designer for advise on the floral arrangement.
Yes, wear some blue sapphires or blue topaz for a hint of blue for you. Or, if it fits into your dress, how about a blue bow at the back of your waist?

QUESTION:
What do you think of these centerpieces?
http://weddings.theknot.com/Real-Weddings/32772/detailview.aspx?id=32772&type=3&wedding_details=CenterpiecesWe are having a Spring garden themed wedding and we are using the colors pink and green. My FMIL and my mom were visiting us this past weekend and we came across this centerpiece idea and all really liked it. It has square glass vases filled partway with split peas with a tea light on top. I don't think we would use the apples as in the photo, but I like the orchid laying next to it (although we wouldn't need them).
I have also seen mason jars filled partway with split peas with candles in them and like that idea too - maybe three could be put in the center of each table?
What do you think? I like the way it looks and it would fit our budget ... just looking for other opinions.
Mrs. G to B ... I love flowers too and would love to have them in our centerpieces. Unfortunately it's something we have to cut back on in our budget so we can invite everyone we want to have there to celebrate with us.
boodoll33: thanks for the additional ideas! I would love any more ideas from anyone else of what to add!

QUESTION:
What is it with "label" weddings?
Disney, Nascar, John Deer, Tiffany... the list goes onDo brides really think that advertising for free commercial brands will make their wedding look elegant?
Is wrapping an empty box with Tiffany-like blue paper and a white ribbon as a centerpiece supposedly looks fancy? Really?
What is your take on weddings that use a commercial label as their "theme"?
-
ANSWER:
Once you commercialize it no longer is a family or intimate affair...it becomes kitchy ....it's not even unique.I am waiting for these themes...
Dr. Pepper or Coca Cola-things go better with Coke.
Preparation H or Milk of Magnesia for the older, mature couple
Bayer Aspirin (the way they blast music, why not...everyone leaaves with a headache)
Jack Daniel's....the drunks'll love that.
Tampax....interesting decorating for that one. Ditto Midol.
Trojans....do I need to elaborate? For folks who love 'balloons'
Valvoline for the Car Crowd.
Oscar Meyer Franks- " Oh I wish I had, I mean I wish I was an Oscar Meyer Weiner....."
Hamburger Helper.
'Lays' potato chips....can't 'eat' just one *rolls eyeballs*.
K-Y jelly...ahem.
Hey, considering the kind of food often served.....Pepto Bismol....Benefiber....Pepcid AC....Tums...
Alka Seltzer....'Plop plop, fizz, fizz oh what a cute couple dey is....."Mickey D's so the bride can have it all 'her way'......perfect for the Bridezilla.
WALMART....now who wouldn't LOVE a Walmart themed wedding!
I'm just waiting.

QUESTION:
How to order specific rose varieties for wedding flowers?
Hi! I'm a freelance floral designer and I would like to know what are the most popular varieties of roses that you use for weddings? I'm having a hard time ordering the specific variety that I need... for example, creamy white is so different than stark white, and there are so many different pinks!!! Also, for bouquets and boutonierres I need the blooms to stay tighter, while for centerpieces, I need blooms that blow open quickly and have a high petal count. Can you help me with an easy guide to wedding roses? Thanks in advance!!!-
ANSWER:
Well what roses to use during a wedding is subjective to what the bride wants. My mom is a gardening nut and she has this book "American Rose Society Encyclopedia of Roses". It has infomation on 2000 different roses and their properties. I say buy the book and expand on what types of roses you use. Good Luck!

QUESTION:
Weddings are so stupid and overrated. Anyone agree?
Yes I am in love, with a MAN. I have a great relationship, but I see no need for a ,000 + wedding. Dumbest thing I ever heard of. People on this forum fretting about tiny details like where their bridesmaid should stand and "are colored almonds" appropriate for a wedding favor. NO they aren't, we are ALL sick of getting colored damnn almonds!! Get original people! My man and I have been to 19 weddings in 5 years and they were ALL THE SAME! (not to mention 11 of them are divorcees now) The EXACT same dresses, (um, can we say strapless A line makes me puke, one more time?) the same centerpieces, the same food, the same boring old songs, does ANYONE not think for themselves anymore? And I don't want to hear about "tradition." Tradition is the lazy thinkers' excuse. Tradition=followers. Anyone ELSE feelin' me here on all the stupidity around this wedding crapp? Just had to vent, want to know I am not alone. Brides to be, answer some other question, don't bother with a comeback!!!-
ANSWER:
I would have to agree on that one, completely. Everyone I know also got married in a strapless A line dress, lol... it was pretty annoying. I am heading for a one of a kind custom Civil War gown that I designed myself for a theme wedding. I could never have a normal, straight wedding, and our budget I am proud to say is only k (00 each) and we are doing a lot on that small amount!Yes, everything seems so cookie cutter now a days! I dread going to weddings now, to the point I would almost prefer a funeral! One wedding I was at I was witness to the groom soliciting a bridesmaid for a quickie in the hallway, another wedding the bride cried all the way down the aisle in a panic and almost called it off at the alter, another one a bride tore her k dress just a tiny bit and FREAKED out and refused to attend her cookie cutter, prime rib reception. And yes, same ole songs, same ole decor, same old boring CRAPP. If the weddings are designed for the people to enjoy, PLEASE PLEASE give us guests a litte FUN and creativity, we indeed CRAVE IT!! Thanks for your rant, I found it refreshing!

QUESTION:
Centerpieces and favors for a chocolate themed wedding?
I am looking for creative ideas for centerpieces for a chocolate themed wedding. My fiance and I are getting married in an old chocolate factory in May 2011. The factory has since been re-done but there are still some industrial elements left in the space (which I LOVE). I dont want floral centerpieces. I would prefer something to tie in my theme. We are on a budget so please keep that in mind (- per table tops). Also, I have been going back and forth with favors. I would normally be one to ix-nay the favors or go with a donation or something but I came across mini fondue sets for pretty cheap that I think would be really cute to go with my theme. We would do one per couple and then each single would obviously get their own as well. Thoughts? Our wedding is small (65 people).
I'm also open to any other suggestions that you have for chocolate themed weddings for other parts of the wedding. Thanks alot.
-
ANSWER:
Your space sounds very cool and has a lot of potential to be totally unique!Maybe you could use the favors as your centerpiece. To be honest, I would not be jumping up and down about a mini fondue set, and it would probably eventually go to the thrift shop. The best favors are edible. Why not do a tiny box of 4 truffles, or 1 each of the bride and grooms favorite chocolate treat.
You could wrap them in various shades of brown and use gold ribbons if you want to create interest. Or, you can wrap them all identical for a sharp look. Place them on trays, pewter or copper vessels, any kind of metal that has character to mirror the industrial elements in your space.

QUESTION:
Weddings with more than 2-3 colors?
This is just total curiousity. For a long time brides were choosing 2 or 3 wedding colors, but more and more I see 4, 5, and sometimes more colors being announced as the wedding colors.
I'm curious how people bring those colors together when there are so many?My wedding was black, white & cranberry (red). Tuxes were black & white with red vests. Bride = white dress. Bridesmaids - red dresses. Flowergirls - red & white dresses. Flowers: red & white with black ribbons. Invites: white, with red & black accents. Linens: black & white. Centerpieces - red, white & black. Our cake was actually red with white lily of the valley (one of our flowers) piped on and black bands at the bottom of each layer.
So for weddings with 4 or more colors, how does it all come together? What colors are used where?
-
ANSWER:
This is a good question. As a bridal garment designer and dressmaker along with being an interior decorator, you can imagine that I deal with color all of the time. A successful combination of colors is easier to select than one may think. Many of the principals of decorating your home also apply with organizing the color elements of a wedding.
Just like when you decorate your home, you need inspiration. So, you select an object, a fabric, a painting or what have you, to base your decor on. Then, from there you pick colors, textures and patterns to fill up the room. Very much like what may inspire a bride's color choices for her wedding.
Inspiration to select colors can be found anywhere. I found some fabric to make my brides maids dresses which inspired my 4 color wedding color scheme. The fabric was a chiffon with an ivory back ground with burgundy, pink and purple/lavender flowers. I used all of those colors in my wedding. Ivory table linens with burgundy napkins, large full blooming African Violets for the tables in all those colors (a whopping .79 each, yes, one dollar and seventy nine cents), my mother wore pink, his wore lavender, the groomsmen wore burgundy. When you have some inspiration, like I did with the fabric, it just takes off from there. Just like a pretty comforter can dictate the color of your bedroom and accessories.
I have helped brides pick colors for quite some time. Often I ask them the same questions I ask my home decorating clients. Like, where do you like to vacation, what are your favorite activities, what is your favorite time of year, where do you go for peace and quiet; questions like that tell a lot about a person and immediately help me to see colors they would like. For instance, the person who likes to hike in the woods and ski in the winter, will usually turn away from bright colors and stick with a mild color pallet. Whereas the individual who vacations in the Bahamas and loves boating would lean toward turquoise, corals and yellow colors.
I once picked wedding colors from a favorite painting in a client's house. It was a beautiful fall scene in bright daylight. So, we picked sage green, rusty reds, burnt oranges and golden yellows for her wedding colors. Sometimes I ask a client to take a quick peak in their closet. There I find favorite colors all the time and use them to inspire the wedding colors.
I think the best thing is to stop thinking so hard about it because the answer to your color selections are usually right in front of your face, you just have to look for them.
