I have no idea what kind of style you are into, or what kind of wedding you'd like to have, but here are some ways we saved on our wedding, which was wonderful--all the guests said they enjoyed the originality of it, and it was so fun for everyone to go to a different kind of wedding.

*We made our own invitations. There are all sorts of ways to do this, but we simply got coloured paper, and made the card long, to fold in three sections rather than two. On the inside, we put the names of the wedding party as though they were on a theatre program (we got married in a theatre). When we folded the "program" together, we attached it with a separate piece of paper, with typed up words of a love poem. It was lovely. Anyway, a bit of craft paper and an imagination will save you tons of money. We definitely didn't spend more than + stamps on our invitations.

*Avoid wedding halls. They charge lots of $ per plate and the food isn't as good. Try finding a place that hosts other kinds of parties--a restaurant with a theatre/ballroom/party room attached. Their plates are often cheaper, and they often taste better.

*Go to a non-traditional jewelry shop--perhaps something that offers handcrafted silver jewelry. If you aren't set on a diamond or gold ring, you can get something really beautiful for under 0. If you go to boutiques in a fashionable area of town, you'll find something really unique for way less than your traditional type of ring.

*If you want to wear a white wedding dress, either rent or buy a used one. A friend of mine got a beautiful used dress (after all, they've only been worn once) and the cost of it plus the necessary alterations was really cheap. Or you could just wear a lovely dress of the non-white variety.

*If you want to do something really casual, you could get married in an area where you'll be able to view the changing leaves--and if you get married outside, you avoid paying for a place. You could rent formal canopies and get your wedding catered.

Cheap Replacement Wedding Ring?
Yesterday, I noticed that my claddagh ring, which I use as a wedding ring, looked like it had scratches on the heart. It seemed very dull. The ring is less than a month old. So, I had my fiancee take the ring to the jeweler today and she refused to correct the scratches. She says that it's normal wear and tear and that I will be losing gold if she corrects it. She said that I need to get used to it and that even putting on a pair of gloves can scratch the ring.

To me, the scratches are very noticeable and the ring has lost a lot of its shine. Had I known that gold (the ring is 14k) scratched so easily, I would have bought a cheap wedding ring instead. I'd rather replace a cheap ring than one that cost a lot of money.

It has already been rhodium plated a few weeks ago. She will not rhodium plate it again because she said that that also takes away from the gold. She said that you should only get it plated once a year.

A - The engagement ring is more expensive. Traditionally the man is supposed to spend 3 months salary on one, but that isn't really done as much these days.

The biggest problem with Titanium is that it cannot be sized. So if you ever lose or gain weight, you'll have to buy a new ring.

I think it's kind of tacky replace a piece of jewelry with so much meaning with a cheap coloured band with no meaning just so you can wear gold. Has anyone else ever wondered why typically(but not always) the husbands have less expensive wedding rings.
