Comfortable Wedding Shoes

A special day such as wedding deserves meticulous planning to the last detail to prevent any hiccups to affect anything or anybody, least of all to the bride. Insufficient attention given to the footwear of the bride can make her life miserable on the D Day itself.

      Some brands of shoes are much more comfortable than other brands and that's what you need to consider, not WHERE to buy shoes.
      A comfortable shoe, if a heel, puts the brunt of your weight on the heel, not the ball of the foot. Years ago when I worked on my feet, in heels, for 8 hours at a time, I wore mostly one brand; they were so comfortable - not cheap, but very comfortable. Go shoe shopping, find a comfortable one, go back in a few days and try it on again and make sure it's still comfy, buy it, and wear it at home as many hours as you can before the wedding. If you are afraid of slippery soles, rough the sole up with a little sand paper or even glue a piece of sand paper to the sole - that's a good tip for the bride too! If you expect to be on your feet for hours and you tend to swell, get the shoes 1/2 size larger than usual. Oh, your heel doesn't have to be high but it should be thin to look good... no blocky heels, please.

      The best thing to do is go and try on shoes. Different people like and find different styles to be comfortable. I wore heels, but took them off during the reception. A lot of brides choose fancy heels for the ceremony, then once the pictures are over and done with they put on ballet slippers, embelished flip flops, white tennis shoes or some other comfy shoes.

      Just find shoes that you like and go with your dress and personality and then go from there.

      If you buy a latin dance or ballroom dance shoe then you will have comfortable feet. eBay has tons. They don't sell many in ivory though, but they have white, gold, or silver. They have to be very comfortable and sturdy because dancers wear them. I have a pair and they are super comfy.

      Most 1-3" bridal shoes are made with comfort in mind, knowing they will be worn for a great length of time, without being properly broken in. Buy your shoes at least 2 months in advance and bring gel inserts with you when you go shopping. Then wear the shoes around at home to break them in. A pair of ballet style slippers can always be put on later in the evening for dancing. Another tip is to buy/save the 'pads' from a push up bra! They fit perfectly around the back of your heel to prevent blistering!

      You would not believe the amount of great wedding pictures rendered unusable because otherwise beautiful brides do not give enough thought to their shoe choice, believing 'they won't show'. If your sitting eating...your shoes show, when your coming down the aisle, they peek out. You want that picture where your groom scoops you into his arms....the last thing you want is "What was I thinking"

      That old saying "you can tell the class of a person by their shoes" never makes more sense than a brides footwear choice on her wedding day!

      I got some pretty comfy shoes from David's Bridal...hard to say what would be comfortable for someone else. However my seamstress did give me a hint for shoes! She said you should put them in the fridge the night before the wedding and because of the moisture will actually form to fit your foot perfectly...worth a try!

      I have worn them and I think you'd be more comfortable with flats. The bottomsaren't hard enough for you to walk around all day in. In all actuality, you'd probably be happy wearing flats until you get to the reception, then you could change into a softer shoe.

      that is gorgeous and congratulations!! and also if you think about it... most people will take off their shoes because its hard to walk on sand let alone wear heels on it... but get a shoe that had diamonds on the top and a little heel to it go to shoe stores and try them on and what the secret is... put some on and walk around the store for about 10 minutes with them on. and if they are still comfortable after that then buy the shoes!

      Try going to the mall or a store with a variety of high heels, and if you have wide feet, they do sell some at stores for wide width. No high heels are comfortable. Just try not to get a very tall heel. You can try them on and walk around a bit, and see which ones you can walk a line in best. After you purchase them, when you're home walk around with them a few weeks before the wedding in socks to help break them in, so you don't wake up with blisters all over your feet the morning after the wedding.

      I'm 6' tall, so I wanted a short heel as well. I also got married outdoors, so I couldn't wear a thin heel that would sink into the ground. I bought my shoes at DSW for around , I think. I thought they had a very large selection to choose from, and they were quality shoes.

      My dress is off white too, it is "bridal ivory." But even if you buy white shoes, if the dress is long no one will see them much. I actually bought teal wedges from Payless for . The teal is my "something blue" and they are too cute ;) It coordinates with my wedding colors as well. Just go to any store and look around, I am sure you will find some that would work and aren't marked up because they say "bridal" on the box! You could even go to the craft store and find a little sparkly thing or flower to glue on if you wanted. I have heard of some brides wearing cute flats too, etsy.com had some sweet ones for sale.

      however I also have an ivory/champagne dress and found the perfect pair of
      purple, velvet peep-toe heels, with a vintage gold buckle.

      If you're going more practical:
      I would get a brushed/toned down gold pair of heels no more than 1-1 1/2" heel.

      Yes, they are comfortable, a lot of people get them as their wedding shoes.
      Ballroom shoes is a better option than Latin because they are center balanced. Latin shoes are forward balanced, they'll push your weight forward. Besides, Ballroom shoes (pumps) are a lot more fitting to a formal occasion in my opinion.

    I never wear high heel shoes so I do not want to wear them for my wedding. I am looking for something that is flat (or close to it) but I find that some of the ballerina styles are not very nice.

      Just because one designer or brand will be comfortable for one person doesn't mean it is for all. All of us have different shaped feet. You need to try the shoes on. Buy them is they're comfortable and take them home to walk around on a carpeted floor or rug. That will keep the bottoms from becoming scuffed. If they start hurting after awhile, then you can return them because they are in perfect shape. Strapy sandal type heals are often easy on the feet then closed in shoes.

    Should I get my wedding dress altered to my ceremony heels or reception shoes?
    I will be a very petite bride--5'0". Because I can, I am planning to wear 3" heels during the ceremony. However, I want to be comfortable at my reception, so I was thinking about changing into flats. So which pair should I bring when I get my dress altered? I fear it will be too short when I wear the heels if I get it altered to the flats, but then I'm worried it will be too long when I wear the flats if I get it altered to the heels...

    • ANSWER:
      I work as a bridal consultant. Have the gown hemmed to the heels, but have it bustled for the flats, if that makes any sense. You can also have the seamstress add a long loop to the front of the gown, if you're tripping over the hem in front while dancing, and then just pick up the front and loop it over your wrist.

      I think its perfectly fine it that's what you want to do. But people will see your feet if you have any stairs to go up and the flip flops might make some noise.

      I found a pair of shoes with a really low heal that were just as comfy as flats at Target of all places.

      Have you considered white ballet slippers? I mean like real ballet slippers, like from a dance supply store. They are flat, soft leather, and very comfortable, and you can get them in white.

I wanted the silver glitter ones in 9.5-10w. These are VERY hard to come by! If you can find them then by all meants please send the link to me.
