Cupcake Wedding Cakes

The do-it-your-selfer can save tons of money and have great success using these cupcake ideas for weddings:

You can make a beautiful cupcake tower with no cake decorating experience.

Save on time and money.

Mistakes don't effect a whole cake. If you're unhappy with a particular cupcake, don't use it. Make extra cupcakes for this purpose.

If you are bringing cupcakes in to a catering hall, 00004000 you save on the cake-cutting fee.

You can offer a variety of cake flavors to your guests.

You can make a small cupcake tower for each table and save the thousands of dollars spent on floral centerpieces.

You can offer your guests a second helping, if you like!

The cupcake tower consists of one of more different designs on the cupcakes, displayed on stacked cake boards. Even the simplest designs are enhanced by adding votives, fresh or silk flowers, or tulle alongside the cupcakes on each tier.

In advance, you will need to decide on the design of your cupcake stand and the decorations you will put on the cupcakes.

Assembling the Cupcake Stands:

Even though you can vary the size of your cake boards, the higher the tier, the smaller the cake board. To serve 150 - 200 people, you will need 2 cupcake stands. For each one, create a 4-tier stand with cake boards, starting with 16", then 12", 9" and finally 6". The boards can be square or you can cut out a shape, if you like, by purchasing large pieces of foamcore. Your local craft store will have most of the things you need. Cover each board with non-stick foil, which comes in different colors. The edge of each cake board can be trimmed with ribbon to match the color scheme. Use either craft glue or hat pins to secure it.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. QUESTION:
What do you think of cupcake wedding cakes?
I am thinking on making my own wedding cake however there is a little difference, i am thinking of making cupcakes as a wedding cake i have seen this done and i have noticed that it is a very good way to save money i mean i would be making them myself and saving time on being disappointed with the results. my bridesmaids and maid of honor are willing to help me make them and also i can make the kinds i want to have.

• ANSWER:
They look really cute if you get a tall tiered stand to put them in. They are pretty cheap to find and look better than most cakes (in my opinion) because they are so tall and usually wedding cakes are small. Using fun colors adds lots of style and putting a fun decoration on top makes them look unique, not to mention the money you will save with your friends helping. I think it's a great idea! 2. QUESTION:
Bakeries in Twin Cities for cupcake wedding cakes?
I am trying to find a few bakeries in the Twin Cities that make cupcake wedding cakes. Any ideas???

• ANSWER:
Yeah, so a few bakeries just make for cupcake wedding cakes.

3. QUESTION:
What do you guys think about cupcake wedding cakes?
I personally love it. The idea of cutting a cake and feeding each other a slice just never appealed to me. That link gives you an idea of what that is.

http://www.yumsugar.com/223612
nah don't be sorry, I welcome all opinions. ;-)
petit fours? well I just googled that when you mentioned it in your answer, frankly I never heard of them before but I like the results from google. They look cool. Thanks for mentioning it.

• ANSWER:
Personally, I love them. I am a very informal person and very non-traditional. I like that they look "fun" and not too delicate to eat. When I eat cake, I want it to be something that I can really enjoy and dig into. I think a lot of times at weddings they make the slices too small and by having the cupcakes you can avoid that. I also think its's a good a idea because you can make each one different or all the same. I think to avoid it looking "kiddish" or "cheap" they should be displayed and made professionally if you are having a grand wedding.

Have you seen the cakes that they can make out of cupcakes? Those are cool...they are all put right next to each other and can be put into tiers to look like a wedding cake, but you dont need to worry about the cutting of the cake or measuring the slices to make sure everyone gets a fair slice.

6. QUESTION:
Cupcake Wedding Cakes?
What is everyones opinion on having a cupcake wedding cake? Is a traditional cake better? I saw one at a wedding a few months ago and thought that it was fun and sort of funky, and now that we are planning our own wedding I'm thinking of having one. However, instead of actual cupcakes I was thinking of having modifid ones more similar to petit fours with an actual cake on top for the one year anniversary. I'm thinking of doing one similar to this minus the ribbons, probably a bit larger and with our own colors (bright green and pink).

http://www.ouroneheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/wedding-cupcake2.jpg

What do you think? I'm also considering putting a dessert or candy buffet with it. Which would you prefer if you were a guest?

• ANSWER:
Cupcake towers are totally perfect for those bright, punchy, contemporary weddings with fun colors (like green & pink). Of course, the tower you show are actually mini-cakes, which are definitely pricier than cupcakes. These would fit in nicely at any wedding, casual or formal.

7. QUESTION:
What do you think: Cupcake wedding cakes?
So instead of paying .50 a slice at this "Mom and Pop" bakery nearby, I can pay .50 per cupcake, and have a cupcake wedding cake!
I found several cupcake styles online, but YA is blocking me from using any of them in my question! ugh!

Anyway, there are tons of different things we can do! Our colors are tiffany's blue, a little brown, and white. So it will look very delicate, and not overbearing like some that I've seen. (ie: way too much decoration/detail)

What do you think of them? Do you think it's cute? Weird?
Have you ever been to a wedding with one of these?
Would you rather get cake?--- or does it not really matter?
Yes of course it will be on a nice, tiered stand! :)
And
we are also having a small cake on top, for the traditional cutting of the cake.
The cupcakes will be of amazing quality. The bakery is known for amazing sweets, and has been around since the early 1900's! So it will be GOOD food!
Also, the cupcake wedding cake is saving us around 0!

• ANSWER:
Go for it and who cares what people think. There will always be people there to judge every aspect of your wedding but it is your wedding so try it. Don't break the bank so other people can see another boring and traditional wedding cake. There is the whole "elegance" issue as if you are having your wedding at the Ritz in which case there really are elegant cupcake wedding cakes also. I have been to a wedding with one and honestly I went "Oh cool cupcakes, now they don't have to chop it up" and then I ate my piece and thought nothing of it. Stop caring about what other people and think and do what you like. If they are truly there for you and your fiance they won't stop to judge everything and call you childish for having cupcakes like people on YA will.

10. QUESTION:
Any one have experience with cupcake and traditional wedding cake combos?
I would like to have a wedding cake made of cupcakes, my fiance prefers the traditional cakes.

Has anyone had a cake that was a mix of the two styles? How did you decide on the amount of cake to order or have made. My Fiance's mom is making the cake for us, so if anyone has insight on the ideal cake to cupcake ratio that would be awesome.

Pictures would help too if anyone has links.

Thanks

• ANSWER:
Why not have both? I think it's going to take a lot more cupcakes than it would take cake since each guest would get one cupcake each, but with a larger size cake the guests would just get a piece of cake. But you can still have both!

cupcake wedding?
how many guests are too many to make (or have a friend make) the cupcakes if you want to do a cupcake cake?? i have to prepare for 60 people and i dont want a lot of added stress. it's not a big wedding but it's not super small either..should i just have a bakery make them?
i want to have enough so that each person can have at least 2. so that's 120 actually!

• ANSWER:
Sixty might not be so bad to make.... but if you can afford it, you should have a bakery do it. It would be one less thing you will have to worry about, and chances are - there will already be plenty of other things to worry about!

15. QUESTION:
Would a cupcake tower or a wedding cake be better for my wedding?
I'm getting married in June. It will not be a really formal wedding. I have seen so many beautiful wedding cakes that I love, but recently, alot of my friends have been telling me about these cupcake towers with designs and everything. They are cute. And I guess they're more modern nowadays, right? I'm 22 years old, so I don't want to be old fashioned, but do the cupcake towers look as nice as a cake?

• ANSWER:
Cupcakes are cute when you are 10. I would much rather have a nice cake to look at. A cake isn't old fashioned, its a timeless tradition.

17. QUESTION:
Making my own cupcake wedding cake, any ideas?
Our original plan didn't fall through and now my fiance and I are trying to find a cake vendor at the last minute for our upcoming wedding. The only thing is, we didn't have to pay anything for our original idea and we hadn't put much aside for it in our budget. Everyone said I should stay away from making my own wedding cake, but then I heard about cupcake wedding cakes.
Am I naive to think that I could probably easily pull this off? I would just need to make cupcakes, decorate 'em and make a small slab cake for the top. What sort of things do I need to consider/plan on buying? Anyone recommend NOT doing this?

• ANSWER:
i thought about doing this. what i would do is have a cupcake party one or two nights before the wedding. invite over your mom, bridesmaids, close friends, etc and share the work! you can make it a girl's night by providing some refreshments and the time would fly by and you'd be having fun.

spulurge on some pretty cupcake holders and buy an cupacake tree and you could have it all done, and looking awesome, for less than a hundred bucks!

good luck!

18. QUESTION:
What would be the perfect wedding cupcake?
If you were/are to have cupcakes for your wedding cake-what would/do yours look like?

• ANSWER:
Funfetti cupcakes with white or red frosting and a white or red flower :)

19. QUESTION:
What do you think of the whole wedding cake- cupcake idea.?
I have seen a few pictures of these... and really like them. What does everyone else think... from a wedding guests point of view.. of cupcakes at a wedding instead of a big solid cake...?

• ANSWER:
That would depend on the atmosphere of the event. The formality would dictate what was appropriate. If it was a casual event or a smaller event then cupcakes would be okay. They are a bit reminiscent of a birthday party. For a larger or more formal event I would refrain as cupcakes aren't a very formal dessert offering. The cost factor is about the same in cases where you get decent cupcakes so that doesn't factor into it much. Wedding cakes are far mroe traditional and I enjoy seeing them much more than I enjoy seeing cupcake trees and whatnot. However, as I stated in the beginging, the formailty of the event would dictate whether or not I would entertain the idea of cupcakes over cake.

Good luck!

20. QUESTION:
wedding cakes?
i am doing a cupcake wedding cake, and the groom cake is going to be his favorite greman chocolate, for the wedding cupcake cake i am putting a mini cake on top for cutting, the topper i am thinking of putting seashells on top of the mini cake and for the grooms i have no idea what to do, i got him a cake topper that has the bride standing up witha key in her hand and the groom is sitting with a ball and chain how can i make that into a beach themed wedding cake our colors are blue and white and a little ivory, any suggestions, what color should the cake be? how many cupcakes do i need for 120 guest? how should i make the cupcake weddign cake with that many cupcakes on it? i was thinking of making my our boxs to display the cupcakes on but for 120 people i was thinking 3 tier with cupcakes and then the 4th tier for the mini cake if i do that how mnay cupcakes should i put on each tier? please i am welcome to all suggestions.
the topper is funny and my groom to be loves it, everyone we know thinks it is cute becuase even since we have been together 7 years i have changed him for the better, he use to get in troble alot and do drugs now he is prefect for me nothing like that, so in a way it works for us

• ANSWER:
You can either use the mini cake on top for cake cutting and freeze the rest of it for your anniversary. Or you can feed each other a cupcake and save the entire mini cake for your wedding. But you can't go wrong either way.

The grooms cake can be any color, flavor, or design. It does not have to match your theme; rather it should reflect your fiance's interests. I would ask your fiance what he prefers since the cake should be of interest to him as the groom.

I'd recommend having at least 1 1/2 cup cakes per guest. Not every guest will eat a cup cake, but some guests may have more than one. So I think 180 would be a good number to make.

Here's a couple of pictures to give you an idea for a cake display with a mini cake on top and cupcakes: http://www.mainecakesandcookies.com/andies_cupcakes.JPG

22. QUESTION:
Does anyone know a yummy cupcake and/or icing recipe for wedding cupcakes?
My fiancee and I decided that, to save $$ on our wedding cake, we're just going to make our own cupcakes. Yes, we have thought this through and this is what our decision is. Does anyone happen to have any really yummy cupcake recipes and/or a super decadent icing recipe as well? Our wedding is not until next fall but I plan on trying out a few recipes before we decide on one to use for our big day cupcakes.

• ANSWER:
Classic Italian Cream Cupcakes/Cake
This recipe is absolutely delicious whether it's in a cake or cupcake form.

Italian cream cake is deliciously decadent on the inside and rich and creamy on the outside. This recipe for Italian cream cake can be made in two parts: the cake and the frosting. You can also make the frosting ahead of time and refrigerate it until you are ready to bake the cake.

Italian Cream Cake Recipe

Ingredients You Will Need:
½ cup shortening
½ cup butter
1 ⅔ cups sugar
5 eggs, separated
1 cup buttermilk (or milk)
⅜ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups shredded coconut (or one small can)
1 cup chopped pecans (toasting is optional)
¼ teaspoon cream of tarter

Italian Cream Cake Frosting Ingredients:
½ cup butter
1 package of cream cheese (8 ounces)
4 cups powdered sugar
¾ teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans

Beat the shortening, butter and sugar together in a large bowl. Add the egg yolks and beat again. Stir in the remaining ingredients, except the egg whites and cream of tarter, alternating between the buttermilk and the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, take the egg whites and cream of tarter and blend together. Fold the egg white and cream of tarter mixture into the rest of the ingredients.

Pour the ingredients into a greased baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 to 40 minutes. Let cool for about ten minutes once finished.

Italian Cream Cake Frosting
Combine the butter, cream cheese, sugar and vanilla extract with an electric mixture. Stir in the pecans last. Frost the cake with your homemade icing and sprinkle a few coconut flakes and pecans on top of the cake for decoration.

23. QUESTION:
A Cupcake wedding cake?
Okay, my fiance and I LOVE the cupcake wedding cake idea. Then we could have the chocolate (which I like) and the white (which he likes) and wouldn't have the hassel of having to transport a huge cake, plus the price is more reasonable. However both sets of parents plus a woman who refers to herself as my half mom say it's a silly idea, so what is everyone elses opinion? BTW we are getting married around Halloween.

• ANSWER:
I'm having a cupcake wedding cake with mini cupcakes at my wedding, so I would have to say that I love the idea ;-)

They are small enough to pop in your mouth, that way we don't have to worry about the heavy cake being transported and possibly dropped, and the time consumption and mess of cutting each piece.

Our guests will be able to grab one or two at a time and enjoy themselves without the hassle of forks and plates.

Congratulations!!

I would definitely go with a cake so that it can be decorated with a wine/fall theme. Look at bakeries that are close to your reception site.

Here is one example! Absolutely gorgeous fall/wine theme placed on the top of a wine barrel:

Wedding cakes more like Wedding cupcakes...?

http://www.pinkcakebox.com/images/cake599.jpg

What do you think?

• ANSWER:
Totally cute, probably lesser expensive and no hassle of having to cut pieces for everyone. Plus it's totally untraditional and I love things that go against the norm.

28. QUESTION:
How expensive is it to have miniature wedding cakes?
My fiance and I are on a budget for our marriage this August but we really like the look of having one small cake for us to cut at the top, followed below by miniature "cakes" - one tiny cupcake-sized cake for each person. There are many photos of this on google (just search "miniature wedding cakes").

Would this be more expensive to make than just a regular weding cake, or would it be cheaper? We would like the fondant either way.

• ANSWER:
We're doing this too, half in my favorite flavor, half in his. We're doing very simple cakes with plain icing garnished with berries. The cakes do seem as if they cost just as much, but we're going to check the prices at grocery store bakeries.

29. QUESTION:
Cupcake wedding cake?
If we do cupcakes for our wedding, how could we do thee traditional wedding cake cutting?

• ANSWER:
I love the cupcake idea, but I also like traditional cakes!

I had a small, 3 tier traditional cake for our cake cutting and for my wedding party and important guests (ie family) to eat. Then on everyother table, I had either a 2 tiered small cake or cupcakes! The cupcakes were very popular. The cakes probably would have been if the caterer had put the cake servers and plates on the tables (I didn't notice until I went to get a piece and had nothing to cut it with).

I bought cute stands from Michaels using coupons I got!

Here are some photos!

If you are going to have cupcakes, you might as well use them as centerpieces to save some money!

30. QUESTION:
Is it worth spending money for Culinary school if, in the future, I want to open a cupcake/wedding cake shop?
I have been baking for awhile, and people seem to like the product, BUT I realize that my cakes/cupcakes have hardly tasted as good as the ones from good bakery that I like. Going to culinary school can, hopefully, give me a good foundation on baking & decorating, but it is a LOT of money.
WHAT DO YOU THINK…SHOULD I INVEST IN SCHOOL OR KEEP ON READING/TRYING RECIPE FROM THE BOOKS. Thank you so much for all your answers.

• ANSWER:
It would not hurt to have the education and that foundation you mentioned. You can also meet connections there and other skills you may not know you have yet.

If you feel it is not the right thing to do at the moment, I would recommend working for another bakery.

My wife and I have dreamed of opening up a cupcake/cake bakery ourselves but have not got around to it.

Best of luck to you!!

31. QUESTION:
What do you think about a cupcake tower for the wedding cake?
I think they are cute but my fiance thinks they are cheesy.
yeah, if I did it I would have a small cake on top for the cake cutting...

Cheesecake is a good idea too

It is sorta formal but not overly done.
I like the packaged cupcake idea too....

• ANSWER:
I love the idea of cup cake towers, and what I am doing for my wedding is having a two tier cake for my fiance and myself, and our immediate families. The cup cake tower will serve everyone else. They can be beautiful and elegant, if done properly, not cheesy.

cupcake wedding cake??
Ok.. what do you think of this cake for a wedding cake. Mind you.. my wedding is in the summer. gerber daisies like shown but slightly different color.. a very summery look to the wedding.. and not super super fancy.. thanks

this bouquet is the basis for my colors.
**I agree with the person who said there is a lot of space between layers. I like when they are closer to the top of the cupcakes.

• ANSWER:
While I generally like the idea of cupcake wedding cakes, I'm afraid I don't like the one you've chosen. I don't know if it's because it looks awkward with so much space between the tiers or if it's because it looks cluttered with the cupcakes and flowers haphazardly strewn about.

I generally prefer a more polished look. I've included a link of an image I found which seems closer to what I have in mind. You can have whatever color cupcakes, decorated however you'd planned. And you can use the Gerbera daisies like you planned. I just think this kind of idea seems more put together.

33. QUESTION:
Anyone ever had Giant Eagle Wedding Cakes and other wedding cake questions?
I am trying to plan a wedding on a small budget. Has anyone ever had a wedding cake from Giant Eagle? Do you know how much they run? We only have Wal-Mart and Giant Eagle in Marietta Ohio. And I private bakeries are so expensive. I am also thinking about doing a cake for the adults and a cupcake tower for the kids. (there will be 20 kids there) I am going to make the cupcakes but I'd rather have a store bought wedding cake. Any suggestions? How big of a cake do I need for 60 people?

• ANSWER:
Whoever makes your cake should be able to tell you what you need for 60 people. However, a 12 and 8 inch round (if you're doing a tiered cake) feeds 56, so take that and add a 4 inch top tier and you'll have enough. I don't know if store bakeries do tiered cakes though. I'm not sure how many sheet cakes you'd need.

34. QUESTION:
Help with wedding cake/cupcake ideas....?
My fiance & I are considering this for our wedding cake:

We would have a small (maybe 2-tiered?) traditional cake for the cake-cutting ceremony. Then in place of the groom's cake have a stand of chocolate cupcakes to be served to the guests.

Another idea I had was to have a large tiered stand of cupcakes, with half of them white (for the 'bridal cake') & then the other half chocolate (for the groom's 'cake' ). So if you saw the stand from the front, the left side would be all chocolate & the right side all white. If we did this, should we forget the small traditional cake all together & just do cupcakes?

Which idea do you like better? Any thoughts/ideas are appreciated! Just so you know, we are having a laid-back, outdoor wedding in the fall. Between 80-100 guests.

• ANSWER:
We had our wedding in October of 2007. We opted for the 3-tiered traditional bride's cake and cupcakes for the groom's cake. Our cupcakes were a mix of chocolate and vanilla, but they were all decorated with an S on the top...our last initial.

We bought cute little boxes and put a ribbon and a label on them, and we put one at each place setting. So the cupcakes became our favors. Every guest took one home in the little box.

EDIT!! If you will email me, I can send you some pictures!

35. QUESTION:
When should I make my wedding cupcakes?
Rather than have a wedding cake, we are having a cupcake tower which I am making with the help of my sister! We will be married on Tuesday and we were planning to make and decorate the cakes on Sunday. Will they still be ok for Tuesday? I was planning to use a simple vanilla recipe for some cakes and a chocolate recipe for the others. Any advice would be gratefully received!

• ANSWER:
I say make the cupcakes on sunday and refrigerate them on airtight containers, and decorate on Monday (buttercream or boiled icing are fine), come tuesday, your cupcakes will still be fine.

the nearer the date of putting frostings on your cupcakes the better, unless its covered with fondant.

36. QUESTION:
cupcake wedding tier cake?
have you been to a wedding where they had the tiers of cupcakes with the little cake at top. what do you think of them, does it really cut cost? anyone done this themselves
we are having a beach wedding so i thought it be cute if each one had a white chocolate seashell on it

• ANSWER:
They are the trendy thing to do right now, mostly because they are cheaper. I'm sorry if this offends anyone but at a formal wedding I think they are tacky. There is not a delicate way to eat them and when I'm all dressed up the last thing I want is to try and eat a cupcake. You can get a small wedding cake and cut that, then have a sheet cake the guests never see and serve them off of that. Or if you want something traditional but are worried about the costs check out some grocers. We got our cake from Marsh and it was beautiful and amazing. We bought extra embellishments and they decorated it for us. Sam's Club also makes pretty wedding cakes that are delicious.

37. QUESTION:
Wedding cupcakes question - how many cakes?
I'm having a tower of cupcakes instead of a wedding cake. How many cupcakes should I order? Is it one per guest? That's a whole lot of cakes!

Or is it less than that? What did you have at your wedding?
I think I need to be more specific with my question. If I have say... 30 guests, do I need 30 cupcakes?

and I have 120 guests, do I therefore need 120 cupcakes?

I need to know if it if wrong to have less cupcakes than there are guests... because then some guests do not get to eat a cupcake.

• ANSWER:
We are also having a cupcake cake...the way the baker told me to order them is ... you order 75% of the invited guests. So say you were inviting 200 people ... then you would order 150 cupcakes. However, if you already have a firm headcount of who is coming to your wedding I would order 1 per person. I am also have more than just cupcakes too, we are having a few pies.

Hope this helped...good luck!

38. QUESTION:
Wedding cupcake/cake decoration tips..?
Me and my fiance decided to have a cupcake tier and a mini. cake on the top. The thing is we are making it ourselves. The baking part will be easy but decorating is another thing. I want to have flowers or maybe butterflies. Especially since the place we are getting married is famous of monarch butterflies. We have thought much about the decoration of the cake and cupcakes. But I have no idea where to start. I know it would be hard to do, but I want it to look somewhat professional. Any one knows a website that shows how to make fancy looking flowers or any kind of fancy cake/cupcake decorations?? Or maybe can just explain how to do the fancy looking decorating?

• ANSWER:
google wilton.com They have everything you need. Good luck

39. QUESTION:
Are cupcake cheaper then a wedding cake?
Or are people just going for tacky? I think cupcakes look terrible and they lack the sophication of a wedding cake. I have never seen one at a wedding until recently- I have only seen them at children events. Are they super cheap or something??

• ANSWER:
I think they're tacky too.

They can be a lot cheaper though. You don't have a cutting fee or need anyone to serve it.

40. QUESTION:
How do I distinguish cupcake flavors at my wedding?
I'm making my own wedding (cupcake) cake. I'll be baking 300 cupcakes that all look exactly the same on the outside, but to avoid being boring, I'm filling the cupcakes on each tier differently.

How do I differentiate? I was thinking about putting little hints on top of each cupcake, such as a strawberry or a candied lemon peel, but would this look tacky? Should I just put a label on each tier telling my guests what flavor the cupcakes are?
I'm making my own cake because I'm trying to save money. It's cupcakes because I definitely couldn't make a normal wedding cake.

• ANSWER:
I don't think that would look tacky. If you think it would and wouldn't want to decorate them differently otherwise with like different colored sugars or candies, etc. ...You could simply make a small chart on posterboard to set up like a sandwich board next to the "cake". It could just be abou the size of a regular piece of paper or maybe 11x14 or so, so it doesn't look obnoxious or anything. If you're not much of an artist, you could just make a large divided triangle and label each layer (like a food pyramid). Make it colorful & nice looking, maybe even get it laminated, and make sure it's somewhere where everyone can see it when they go up to get their cupcake(s). Another thing is if you're going to use fresh fruit as a marker, it would start to look a little gross after sitting out for a bit and wouldn't taste so great either.

And btw, cupcakes are awesome and so much cooler than a fancy-schmancy cake. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. :) I'm anti-marriage myself, but all of the best weddings/receptions I've attended have been very non-traditional. The best was around Halloween & all the guests were in costume. :) Really, most weddings are sooo boring. How many times can you feign enjoyment while being forced to listen to and watch people do the macarena or other typical crappy wedding music? :)

41. QUESTION:
Could you survive if cakes were your only diet?
Mr Kiplings, cupcakes, wedding cakes, jam cakes, french fancies, basically a fat kids daily dream

Could you survive for the rest of your life on cakes like this? Water is your only form of liquid

• ANSWER:
No you would need some real food, you couldn't live on sugar for the rest of your life (even though I'm sure many kids will want to disagree). you need proper vitamins to survive as well as fruit and veg (it helps)

Remember when you were a pup your mother would always say don't eat too much sweets or you'll be sick? You would learn the hard way

42. QUESTION:
Considering a cupcake tower for the wedding!?
My fiance and I are planning our wedding on a budget. I'm very creative and want to do a cupcake tower instead of purchasing a wedding cake. We're only having 55 guests. Just wondering if anyone has ever done it before and if so, how did it come out?

• ANSWER:
I have seen it done at wedding receptions that I have been at. While it is a unique idea and looks really cute, most of the guests do not realize that IT IS THE CAKE and eat it as a regular desert. So, if you want them to wait to eat the "wedding cake" then you may want to have it posted or have it away from the rest of the food to help them realize that you aren't having a traditional wedding cake and hopefully they won't eat it with their dinner if you don't want them to! Good luck and I hope this helped!

43. QUESTION:
Picnic recipes for wedding reception????
I am having a small and informal outdoor wedding at a plantation bed and breakfast next May. I want to do the cooking myself, and I am planning on making individual picnic baskets for each guest. I want the food to be a little more special than just lunchmeat or whatever, kinda old-fashioned, southern....

Preliminary menu--
Shaved prime rib w/horseradish mayo on mini yeast rolls.
Southern fried chicken
Garden Pasta Salad
Sliced Cucumbers and Onions
Kettle Style Chips
Chocolate Sandies Cookies
Cupcake Wedding Cake

Any comments or alternate ideas would be appreciated. Keep in mind that they must be able to be individually wrapped and packed in boxes. Must not need to be cold, and must be easy to eat outside.

• ANSWER:
We had a picnic for our wedding in England, but we had a caterer for each "table" so between 10 people (all seated on blankets in a meadowy part of a central london park) they shared a hamper. None of the food went to waste and everyone had a great time......I don't have the menu to hand, but I can email it you , or I will find it and post it here.

44. QUESTION:
Cupcake tree vs. traditional wedding cake?
I'm looking for some pros and cons comparing having a cupcake tree vs. a traditional wedding cake. You can include things like how many people each can feed, price, etc.

Thanks so much!

http://weddings.lovetoknow.com/wiki/images/Weddings/3/36/Wedding_cake_ideas.jpg

• ANSWER:
I'm a little biased. I love the cupcake idea and I am doing it at my own wedding. I like the cupcake idea because instead of just having different flavored tiers (like 3) with cupcakes, you can have any number of different flavors, We are doing 6-7 different flavors. I think the cost will end up being about the same for me because of where I am purchasing the cupcakes from. ( my fiance and I go to this place once a week and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE all of their flavors)

To answer your questions though, basically it's one cupcake per person, but just the way they tell you to get the cake for less people than you are inviting, you can do this too. Also, you could technically cut the cupcake instead of the cake (if the cupcake is big enough) Also, some places will make a "goddess" cake for your top "tier" which is actually a very small cake that you are able to cut. My cupcakes will end up costing about 4 dollars each I think.
Here's the link to the place i am getting mine from just so you can take a look.

45. QUESTION:
Wedding cookies, cupcakes, cakes?
For my daughters birthday, we've decided to bake wedding pastries, like cookies and cakes, and things...
Any recipes?

• ANSWER:
Hmm. I know its not a Pastries but its always been a big big hit at most of my holiday parties and all.
Its called 5 cup salad!

it consists of
1 cup Mini Marsh-mellows
1 cup Bakers Sweetened Coconut
1 cup Sour Cream
1 cup Mandarin Oranges
1 cup either Pineapples or Cherries

Its great and if you want to make a bigger serving just make a bowl, then restart the process.

For pastries you should make a few varieties of cupcakes Like Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry with many different icings!

Also, im sure that you could check out and see how much charm city cakes would charge for a good size cake. They are amazing at anything they do!!

Good Luck!!

46. QUESTION:
how long will "wedding" cupcakes keep for?
Rather than have a wedding cake, we are having a cupcake tower which I am making with the help of my sister! We will be married on Tuesday and we were planning to make and decorate the cakes on Sunday. Will they still be ok for Tuesday? I was planning to use a simple vanilla recipe for some cakes and a chocolate recipe for the others. Any advice would be gratefully received!

They'll be fine, especially if you keep them in an airtight container. Try to make sure the icing covers the entire top of the cake, all the way to the paper.

47. QUESTION:
Wedding cakes estimates/recommendations?
I'm getting married and was just wondering how much others had spent on wedding cakes. It's going to be a reception of about 150 people. Any estimates? Any recommendations for good bakeries to get it from? (It's going to be in Minneapolis, MN)

Also, has anyone else heard about these "cupcake tower" cakes? (you can google it if you haven't).. What's your opinion on those?

• ANSWER:
Honestly, .00 a person barely covers supplies. Expect to pay 4-6 per serving. If you want fondant more than that. It takes a lot of time and expertise to do a wedding cake. It may be less in your area but it depends on your market. If you want a cupcake tower, it will probably be 2-3 per cupcake plus a small cake for cutting and the stand. It's what you want. The cupcakes may or may not be cheaper depending on the decorations.
