QUESTION:
What bridesmaid dress colors go with an off-white antique looking lace wedding gown?
Vibrant colors just don't seem to go well.-
ANSWER:
this might sound a bit odd but go down to a hardware store and get some of those paint chips that show you the different colors. put them next to the dress so you can get some inspiration on what colors look good and which ones wont.from there you can look for dresses in the same color palette.

QUESTION:
Looking For Wedding Gowns?
I'm looking for really beautiful lace wedding gowns and I was wondering if anyone knows of any specific gowns or had any suggestions of designers that are known for their lace dresses. I'm not planning on buying online, but I would like to look for a few trunk shows. I would like something a little higher end, although any suggestions are welcome. Please don't suggest anything from David's Bridal, thanks!-

QUESTION:
How to lace up a corset backed wedding gown?
My matron of honour needs to know how to lace up the back of my wedding gown. I tried to find a site, preferably with pictures, that might help but came up with nothing...can anyone help us?-
ANSWER:
I actually just had to do this for one of my best friends. She was married on June 6th and I was in charge of lacing the dress.Start at the top and get both strings equal. You need to put your hands on your hips and hold the dress in place where it will be comfortable for the day. keep your hands there the whole time as the dress is being laced.
Have her go side to side like a shoe while make sure the string is flat not twisted.(it sounds harder thenit is) Then once its laced all the way down...start at the top again and pull the strings tight 1st one side then the other. all the way down and have her keep doing it until its tight enough and you feel comfortable in it.
I would also have your seamstress show her how to do it.
Hope this helps.
Congrats!

QUESTION:
What do you think of wedding gowns that have a corset/lace up back?
Here are examples:http://www.fashion268.net/images/news/news_880one%20piece%20corset%20wedding%20dress.jpg

http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:large/view:main/893985-3-the-dress.jpg
Does the corset/lace up back bother you? It's nice that it can help create the shape you want but I'm not sure I like it being so clearly visible. What is your opinion?
-
ANSWER:
I love the lace up styles and when you are going for a strapless dress, it is the most comfortable. Wedding gowns are like when you take a pair of jeans out of the dryer. They are snug at first and then loosen up over the course of the day. This happens with wedding gowns, which is why so many brides in strapless gowns spend a majority of their reception hauling the dress up by the bust. Which is completely unattractive. With the tie up back, if it starts to get loose, you have your maid of honor tighten the tie ups. With a zip up, there is nothing you can do.

QUESTION:
what should bridesmaids where if i have a lace wedding gown? autumn theme orange green yellows are the colors?
my dress is a lace fitted dress in ivory from db's the wedding will be late august, sept or early october im not sure the date i want :/ buts it in 2010 so i need help ...should the bm's where short or long dresses ,what color should the guys where?help thx
thx...i was thinking if i found a colored lace dress for my bm's that would be cool but then again it would be too much lace so im kinda wondering the type of fabric there dresses should be?also i so didnt want the grooms men wearing blk since nothing will be blk but if they wore brwn it would feel like it was back in the day tux,lol so what you think about them wearing a khaki tux w/tangerine vest or just have them all wear ivory but then i dont want them to be dress like the hubby ugh i need a wedding planner : /-
ANSWER:
My wedding is in mid-oct 2010, I originally wanted knee length lime green dresses, but apparently thats a rare finding in bridal shops, I am having my girls wear knee length simple black dresses with a lime green sash around the waist. I'm thinking about with your lacey dress, I think orage dresses would look really nice, I would go with a dress that has a little flair to it, either knee length or long, I would go slightly poofy!

QUESTION:
what do you do about a future mother in law making you wear her family heirloom for the wedding?
I am wearing a beautiful chantily lace wedding gown and wearing my great grandmothers pearls with nothing else. My fiance's mother has told her son that I will wear her familys necklace for the ceremony what do I do?What is the most wonderful wedding vow you've heard in the wedding? The vows the couple wrote themselves, not the traditional vow you often hear in church. I wish I can recall the words or even have a copy of the vows my niece and her husband wrote for their wedding. It was so simple but so profound..so touching specially to the romantics, it made some of us even teary-eyed....-
ANSWER:
I'm assuming your grandmother's pearls are a necklace (not a bracelet or earrings, etc)? If that's the case, this is very easy. You already have a necklace. Ask her how she feels if you were to carry it instead, perhaps wrap it around the base of your bouquet or something?I understand - what you wear on this day of all days should be 100% your choice. If she was asking to to carry a handkerchief or something, I'd say just humor her, it's not worth anyone having their feelings hurt. But if there is any way that you can incorporate her family heirloom without compromising the look you're going for, I think you should try.
If that won't work - just stand your ground, decline politely, and be as nice as possible about it. She's just excited about her son's big day and wants to be part of things. I'm sure her heart is in the right place even if her manners aren't!

QUESTION:
What are the wedding gowns called that are like ruffled?
Not lace.. but the gown itself is ruffled with the material along with the train. What is the name for that?-
ANSWER:
I'm not really sure what you are trying to describe (a photo might be helpful), but here are some examples of dresses "with ruffles". There isn't a really specific term for ruffles ... except for ruffles. And almost any fabric can be ruffled along a hem, or on the whole skirt. Here is simple dress with a ruffle along the hem and bust-line: http://www.jlmcouture.com/Alvina-Valenta/Bridal/Additional/Style-9709
Here is one with pleating, instead of ruffles at the hem: http://www.jlmcouture.com/Alvina-Valenta/Bridal/Fall/2009/Style-9960
Here is a dress with a tiered ruffle skirt: http://www.disneybridal.com/collection/bridal/ariel/a1914/a1914_images/a1914.jpg
And these are some gowns that feature layers of ruffled material for the skirt:

And here is a gown "ruffle cascade" back/train: http://www.disneybridal.com/collection/bridal/ariel/a2825/a2825_images/a2825alt_detail.jpg
Or maybe you are referring to a "pick-up" style gown:
http://www.kleinfeldbridal.com/index.cfm?pid=52&item_id=12302&showpic=10770&rowid=29&page=2http://www.kleinfeldbridal.com/index.cfm?pid=52&item_id=11639&rowid=4&page=1
http://www.kleinfeldbridal.com/index.cfm?pid=52&item_id=11950&rowid=5&page=1
I hope those help clarify what you are looking for!
Add: Sorry! My first few links didn't link to the right pictures (I hate theknot.com) and the disney site was just a link to a general page, but I just fixed them to go to the actual picture/dress I meant!

QUESTION:
What do you think of these wedding gowns?
I know, im young. Just looking (:
and i want my wedding to be outside.1. http://www.milanoo.com/upen/v/200905/A-Line-Strapless-Brush-Train-Lace-Satin-Wedding-Gown-3763-1.jpg
2. http://www.kleinfeldbridal.com/pics/items/large/Amalia-Carrara-10602-large.jpg ( without the black things)
3. http://www.wedding-dress-gowns.com/images/WD07-0005.jpg ( with more beading)-
ANSWER:
I think the 3rd one is gorgeous but I think the large formal ball gown would be more difficult for an outside wedding. Ballgowns are usually formal and evening events. Outside weddings are usually less formal and earlier in the day. Of course they do not have to be.However the first gown just took my breath away. I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Perfect for an outdoor wedding. It's so timeless.
It goes without saying that it depends on your body type. The first gown is less forgiving on different body types.

QUESTION:
Do my bridesmaid gowns need to be similar to my wedding gown?
I am having trouble finding bridesmaid gowns! Do they need to be similar to the style of my dress? Mine is all over lace on top of satin with side rouching.-
ANSWER:
nope and they don't even have to be like eachother either. I just said to my gals "Pick a dress style that flatters you in this color." That worked the best for us because I had one gal that wore tall sizes, another that wore plus sizes, one that was average, and one that was size zero.If you go that route best to pick a color that is easy to match or go to a salon that offers many styles of dresses that can be cut from the same dye lot of fabric.
My bridesmaids were so happy and just as beautiful as I was! My pictures are gorgeous!

I NEED this dress. It's really really important.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also if you see any pink long sleeved bridesmaids dresses.... help me!!

It depends on how much "lace" you are looking for. There are alot of beautiful pink wedding gowns out there, here are a few samples. QUESTION:
Are lace-up gowns the same as zip-up gowns?
I have a "wide back" so most sample wedding gowns in size 10 fit (not very tight at all) but wouldn't zip up. I tried another size 14 lac-up one gown (38.5,30,40.5), and it was really big on top and everything was rather a bit loose, so the sales rep said to order 12 (37,28,39) but to wear heavy padded bra.If I get a lace-up dress, would it be the same issue or should I still go with a size 12? Or should I get my own size 10?
Every wedding gown seems to fit differently so I look at the measurement guides but I still don't know. In some measurement guides I fit an 8 (based on bust, waist, hip) but then I wonder how the back would zip up!
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I'm wondering if they fit the same.Hugh and the rest of your buddies: if you can't read a question, then don't bother answering. Stating the obvious won't make you Sherlock Holmes in anyone's book.
Hobbsko: thank you for the explanation! that makes more sense. the ones i tried on had a small little zipper but lace-up and the shop owner was tightening them like I was Scarlett from Gone with the Wind lol... So I thought someone with a wider back should get a lace-up.
Karen: Thank you for your answer. My heart is not set on this but I'm using this specific dress as a guide really (I want to order online)...
This is the specific one I tried on: http://www.romanticbridals.com/dress.asp?ID=1314&pic=back
-
ANSWER:
i had a lace up gown and it had a hidden zipper below the laces. the way it was explained to me is this: the laces are purely decoration...the fit of the gown should be determined by how tight or loose the zipper fits. if it's you can get it zipped but with no room to spare (or breathe, in this case) you probably should consider ordering on size up and having them tailor it to your body. if, after you zip up, the gown is still fairly baggy, try a smaller size to see how that fits.
if you fit based only on how tight you can pull the laces, remember that knots can get loosened or even untied during the course of the evening. make sure the dress fits securely on your body!

QUESTION:
A good site for pictures of colored wedding gowns?
I am looking for a dress that is white with purple (violet not lilac). I am having a difficult time finding any sites that have examples of these that I like. I looked at the alfred angelo website and I am not in love with any of the designs, although I go like the idea of having the back lace up with purple and then open to a purple train. Do you have any other suggestions? I am open to most dress silhouettes, although I dont want anything TOO poofy. Thank you!-
ANSWER:
Have you tried Jordan Bridals?
They have some really nice dresses with purple accents. If you don't find anything you like there you could always find a dress you like and add a purple sash - or have someone sew on some beads, etc.

Can I add lace strapes to a wedding gown?
I really love this dress by Eden Bridals (style #1320) http://www.edenbridals.com/1320-p-1141.html, but I don't look fantastic in strapless gowns. Are there any seamstresses out there? QUESTION:
Is it ok to have a black, red, and gold color scheme for a June wedding?
My wedding dress is a vintage inspired lace champagne gown with a gold tulle overlay and the beadwork on the lace is pewter. I found the wonderful black lace accented bridesmaid dresses to go with the wedding gown and I would like to use red flowers to give it a punch of color. My only worry is that this color scheme it too dark for a summer wedding.-

QUESTION:
For a size 34D, would a lace-up back fit me better than a zip up back for wedding gown?
I want to go w/ a strapless look. Will the lace-up back fit me better and keep the gown up, rather than a zip up?Or do you think both hold the same way?
Ive seen so many brides wear strapless cuz that's the trend right now, and they end up pulling their gowns up all the whole, do you think so ?-
ANSWER:
I'm a 34D too and a wore a zip up on my strapless gown. I wore good undergarments and my gown fit me properly. With the correct measurements and alterations, your gown will not slip. Mine didn't. My gown had boning that made it stay in place.Good luck

QUESTION:
How can I reuse wedding gown for anniversary party? My husband and I eloped so we are planning a formal celebration for our anniversary. I still have the dress that he purchased for our wedding as his gift to me. Since we eloped, it was never worn. It is gorgeous, but I will not be wearing it (too bridal and not really my style anymore). I am looking for ways to use the lace (The entire skirt of the gown is beaded embroidered lace.). I would like to use it somehow to tie in the past with the future. Any ideas would be appreciated.

-
ANSWER:
I'm sorry, but that is not a Victorian-style wedding dress. I'm not sure what it is, but 19th-century it is not.Of course, the Victorian era lasted a long time, and styles changed. Still, that dress just doesn't fit the period.
The first dress below does. And see the dresses that Queen Victoria and her daughter-in-law Alexandra wore.

My height is 1.68m, and a little fat,Can you help me choose one wedding dress for me?Thank you!-
ANSWER:
How fat is a "little" fat?The dresses I saw on this site were, for the most part, quite fitted to the body. Depending on how you carry your weight, that might not be flattering to you. I thought the best one on the page was D959, but I'd look a little further if I were you. Something that skims your body and flares softly past your hips and legs might work out for you.

QUESTION:
Wedding gown and bridesmaids' gowns...?
I've picked out the wedding dress I want, but its designer doesn't sell bridesmaids' gowns. So, my first question is, do the bridesmaids' gowns have to match the wedding dress in style? I know that they aren't suppose to match exactly, that would cost way too much. But my dress has a mix of beading, lace inserts, draping, pleated waist, and bubbled hem with pick-ups. Here's a link to it:
http://www.sinceritybridal.com/us_en/collection_popup.php?id=898&disc=
Also, whether the dresses do or don't have to follow the same style, I need recommendations for designers who make plus size bridesmaids' gowns, like plus plus. Any ideas?
oh yeah, all of my bridesmaid live in another state
so it kinda makes things more complicated. (im in college in a different state than where they are located)
Thanks to all of you who gave POSITIVE feedback. As for Luv2Answer and Lydia, you can both piss off. I didn't ask what you thought of my dress. I asked if the bridesmaids gowns had to go with it. It's our wedding, and I get to pick the dress that makes ME happy. I picked it particularly because I like how it's "busy" and how its not classic. I bet both of you are the type of people that would gladly go to a wedding, and then gossip about how everything is not up to YOUR standards.
As for everyone else, thank you so, so much. There has been a lot of ideas given to me. I've looked at all the suggested dresses, all are beautiful. I've chosen the color - it's going to be the "Berry" color listed on David's Bridal's website. The seamstress idea was brillant for those of you who suggested it because my mom is one, but I don't thinks she's going to feel up for all that! lol
Again, thanks so much. Check back to my profile to see my other wedding questions as I post them.

QUESTION:
What fabric for my wedding gown? What's the latest fashion?
I prefer lace with satin..so i could have a lace train..wedding theme - angels - please send pics..want to get my wedding gown stitched this month. so many patterns online, i'm confused..-
ANSWER:
You should visit a bridal salon so that you can see the different styles and fabrics. You can also buy a couple of bridal magazines so that you will have something to show your seamstress. Since you know what fabric you want, you need to go to a fabric store. There is a huge price range with lace, and you to choose the type of satin you want. Basically, this isn't something you can do online.

Any advice would be great! Thanks!
Thanks for all the suggestions!
-
ANSWER:
That is way too much dress for you, plus it's not really pretty anyway.
YOU need to shine in a dress, not have a dress overpower you with a lot of pouf, or draping, etc.
Go with a very classic design - something which will flatter your silhouette.
Depends what the skirt is like on this one -

QUESTION:
Opinions On These Wedding Gowns?
I'm considering these three wedding gowns and I would like some non biased opinions on them. I know that ultimately it my decision but I would like some input. What was your first thought when you saw each one? Please be honest, you won't hurt my feelings.Dress 1: I actually asked for opinions on this one last night but I wondered how you would rate it compared to the others. Right now, for me it is my number one choice, although I do have some reservations about it (Mostly the train...), and I'm not 100% sure that it's my princess dress. It is also much shinier in person.

Dress 2: This is my very very close second choice at the moment, in some aspects, I prefer it to the first. It is not quite as shiny in person. It is also not as wrinkled looking in person.

***I really love the gown that Anne Hathaway wore in Bride Wars, if anyone has any suggestions for a dress similar to that one, I'd love to see it. I really prefer minimal to no beading or lace and I like the layered/wrapped look with a mermaid skirt. I also tend to lean towards a bubble hem, but I'm open to other suggestions. Here is a link if you would like to see the dress in the movie.
http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w336/joyful_328/DF-03508rv2.jpg
Yes, the first two are Vera Wang. The third is just a boutique gown.
Here are some alternative photos of dress #2 that I found on the internet. This particular dress have been altered a bit, the gown I would purchase has no corset in the back and the black flower in the runway photos does not come on the dress.http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/4421/Vera-Wang-211795-Size-6.html

ANSWER:
I prefer the first. Is it a Melissa Sweet? I've seen that dress before and I can't remember where.Anyway If you're still indecisive, none of these dresses are "the one." It sounds cliche but when you find it, you'll know.

Hi, Im engaged and getting married. I'm shopping for my gown, very exciting but still haven't decided yet. Ive narrowed down to the fit & flare style. Which one do you like better and why?Gown #1 is satin and lace, fit and flare,

QUESTION:
What do you think is the next trend in wedding gowns?
Just curious about other people's opinions. In the 50s, short dresses and long dresses with full underskirts and covering bodices were the thing. In the 60s, short dresses with undefined waists were edgy and modern. In the 70s, slim skirts with minimal underpinnings and 3/4 length sleeves (sometimes flared) were the new look. In the 80s to mid-90s, brides were inspired by Princess Diana's wedding dress (which I've seen in person and is AMAZING by the way), so Victorian-style sleeves, more revealing decolletage, and classic lace was in fashion for quite a while. Then the sleeveless and minimal sleeve style came into fashion mid 90s, and 15 years later is still popular. So what do you think is next? My guess is raised hems, tea-length and knee-length gowns will become the style of preference. If they do, everyone will think that floor-length gowns with restrictive bodices are horribly stuffy and old-fashioned.
Though I'll still love my wedding dress anyway. =)
-
ANSWER:
I HOPE that there are more tea-length and knee length dresses. I would love to see lace come back in. Flowy styles as well, something reminiscent of faeries and whatnot.

QUESTION:
How do i get out a stain from a wedding gown?
My wedding is in twelve days and I just picked up my gown from the dressmaker. I noticed three little brown spots on the lace bodice of the dress...what's the best way for me to spot clean it?-

Awww! A wedding dress is for a lifetime...you might even give it to a daughter one day. Don't you think it important enough to take it to a dry cleaner? You wouldn't want it damaged. I think the money would be worth it.

QUESTION:
Steaming a lace gown?
Hello, I bought my wedding gown 6+ months in advance.
Before handing the gown to me I remember seeing the owner of the salon steaming my gown with a hand steamer.
My gown is ALL lace, ivory.
Lace doesn't really gets wrinkly but I would still want to steam it to give "life" to it ... as it has been sitting in a closer for awhile now.
How should I use this steamer though? How far from the fabric should I hold it? How hot should the steamer be in order to do a good job but not burn or stain? (I dont even know if steamers have temperature controls).
I really hope someone in the gowns or fabric biz can give me a suggestions ............ I am ready to buy a steamer today as I remember the owner saying that the gown would look much better steamed right before the wedding.
Thanks-
ANSWER:
I would take it to a dry cleaners and let them do it. Your wedding gown is too important to try this on your own.

Thanks for the responses so far, actually, I've seen David's Bridal plus size collection and nothing clicked. I was trying to go with different company for that reason.-
ANSWER:
All of these gowns are goregous and will work!!http://www.littlecoral.com/amel6344-lace-cheap-wedding-dressbridal-gownorganza_p13705.html - with this being a halter, it will help support your chest area, if you are bigger up there... And the lace is goregous, and I love the bow!!
http://www.littlecoral.com/an393-strapless-cheap-wedding-dressbridal-gowntulle_p13716.html - This will work b/c it pleats vertically on the bottom... Therefore, it will make you look taller and slimmer...
And it has the angled, dropped waist.. Which will also make your torso longer...http://www.littlecoral.com/an403-scoop-cheap-wedding-dressbridal-gowntaffeta_p13727.html Same goes with this one... And the straps are thick, so it will be easier to wear a reg. bra, hooray!!
http://www.littlecoral.com/wu5495-sweetheart-pleated-lace-appliques-wedding-dressbridal-gown_p15651.html This one has the pleating, and would look great... Just be careful with it being tight fitted past the butt... It may make that accent great, or bigger than it is...
http://www.littlecoral.com/vict871125-v-neck-all-over-lace-wedding-dressbridal-gown_p16131.html This one has a simple shape to it that would look great on most anybody
http://www.littlecoral.com/rw08033-v-neck-keyhole-back-lace-wedding-dressbridal-gown_p16464.html If you are hippy... This may make you look really hippy... My eyes were drawn right to the hips of this dress... Be careful with that.
All in all, I hope I helped!! You picked out some great dresses... And no matter what your size, you are going to look spectacular!!
Congrats!!
