Mermaid wedding dressesIf you have a slender figure and want to show off your shape, a modest strapless wedding dressesis a great way to make a dramatic and sexy presentation. QUESTION:
If you have bigger hips should you not wear a mermaid wedding dress?
I Absolutely LOVE mermaid wedding dresses, but I am about 5"2.. and 120 Pounds, I have a normal figure but I have a little bit of bigger hips.. What dress would look the best for my body shape?? Thanks a bunch..-
ANSWER:
If you are naturally curvy then a mermaid style dress will accentuate that. If you love your curves, then go ahead! At 120 lbs it's not like you are heavy, so I'm sure you could pull it off - especially if your body is proportional and you have a larger bust. But if you want to hide your curves then try an A-line dress. You could also try a ballgown or cathedral type skirt, but that may be overwhelming for your height (you are the same height as me).Personally, I think if you love mermaid style skirts, then that's what you should try on. If you like the way you look in it, then go for it! It's your wedding and you should definitely wear something you feel great in on your wedding day!

QUESTION:
Whether mermaid wedding dress style is fitable to my pear style figure?
I like mermaid wedding dtress.Once I envied who can wear a mermaid wedding dress, but now I have a doubt about my figure.Whether mermaid wedding dress style is fitable to my pear style figure? Please give me some good suggestions!-
ANSWER:
A mermaid dress would accent the exact area on your body that you might want to minimize. I wouldn't suggest that type of dress style for you. See for yourself, and go try on a dress. Just dont go by what the sales lady at the bridal store tells you --- they'll say you look absolutely gorgeous. Take a couple of very trusted people to tell you the truth what they feel looks good or bad on you.Try on a bunch of different styles -- you'll find the one that is absolutely gorgeous. Emphasize the great part of your body and downplay the other part.

QUESTION:
What's your opinion on mermaid wedding dresses?
I always saw mermaid dresses and thought they were ridiculous. When I got engaged I swore I wouldn't get one. We walked into a store and before we were even looking at dresses (the saleswoman was talking with us) I was staring at this dress. As soon as she let us go pick up dresses to try on, I grabbed this dress. THEN I realized it was a mermaid. I immediately said I wouldn't even bother trying it on, but one of the bridesmaids told me to just for fun. So I'm about to put it on thinking it's just ridiculous, but as I'm putting it on I realize i loved it! I walked out to show the people with me (bridesmaid, maid of honor, and mom) and they all said it was beautiful. The woman in the store said out of all of the dresses I tried on, mermaid ones suited me best. I love the dress, but am just shocked that I'm planning on purchasing a mermaid! What's your opinion on this style?-
ANSWER:
Love it! I felt the exact same way when I went dress shopping. I hate my stomach area and turns out the mermaid hem was most flattering. It gave me an hour-glass figure that I didn't realize I could pull off (I also had boobs sewn into the dress to help!). I got married in 2009 and I was a BM in 2007 and she wore a mermaid dress too. My friend is 5'1 and I am 5'7. It flattered both of us. If you love it, go with it and don't get hung up on your preconceived notions of the style. I really never thought I would like it and it is what I got. CONGRATS!!

QUESTION:
Can taller slender women pull of the mermaid type wedding gowns?
I am 5'6 and a size 0, with a very small chest (although I plan to stuff my bra like there's no tomorrow). I barley have any curves, and my legs are very long, longer than my torso. AND I LOVE the mermaid type dresses and would love to wear one for my wedding. Have any of you worn the mermaid type dress at your wedding? And if so, what is your body type and how great did you look?Help with accessories and shoes to go with maxi dress?Have just bought silk maxi dress from debenhams, its halterneck with line prints running up and down. Very very dressy, but don't know what to buy to go with it. Its for a wedding next week please help.I suggest that you wear high-heeled sandals either gold or silver;it actually depends on the colour of the lines; if they're dark coloured i suggest silver and if they're light colours i suggest the gold ones, because it would suit better as an antithesis. And according to the colour of the shoes the accessories should have the same. i think that...-
ANSWER:
The mermaid style dresses have a lot of corseting to create a vavavoom figure... yet ironically don't look all that great on very curvy women. So yes, you could pull it off, especially if you choose one with a rouched or very detailed top that will create the illusion of a bust. However, there is another style of gown that was made for a figure like yours which very, very few women can pull off. It hearkens back to 1920s Hollywood glamour. Some examples:
http://bios.weddingbee.com/pics/67957/alix-kelly-wedding-dresses-kate.jpg
http://www.jlmcouture.com/Jim-Hjelm/Bridal/Additional/Style-8905
http://wedding-pictures.onewed.com/edgy/files/imagecache/576w/images/1042920/amy-michelson-flash-wedding-dress.JPG
http://weddingbellsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/wedding-gown-back-drape.jpgIn other words, close cut but flowy sheath dress with a low back, which curvy and busty women simply cannot wear. It looks even more sophisticated with a back drop necklace, like this:
http://bridalcrystaldirect.com/designingyourjewelry.html
http://annettepiperjewellery.blogspot.com/2008/07/one-step-forward-three-steps-back.htmlIt may or may not be your style, but I think if you tried some on you might really like them. Like I said, they're made for a figure like yours. The ideal 1920s woman was very slender with minimal curves, and that style of gown reflects the elegance of the tall and slender body type.

QUESTION:
Mermaid Wedding Dress?
I am 5'4 and 165 pounds. So Im pretty curvy woman & Ive always dreamed of wearing a mermaid dress at my wedding do you think my body type is the right type to wear a mermaid dress? If not what other style would you suggest for a curver woman?-
ANSWER:
As a seamstress and dressmaker, I have some solid advise for you. A girl your height and weight can look fabulous in a mermaid style dress...............ONLY IF:Your bust and hip measurement is 10 inches more than your waist measurement. Otherwise, forget about it.
Other styles for your body type would be a ball gown style, or an a-line skirt style, a surplice bodice style and even an empire waist with an a-line skirt would work well.

QUESTION:
Do you think its too much to have 2 dresses for a wedding?
Ok, on all these bride shows I see how some brides have 2 dresses or more. While I think more than 2 dresses is ridiculous, I'm thinking of getting two. A ballgown for the actual wedding, and a mermaid dress for the recpetion. I fell in love with both gowns, and this seems to be a trend. Do you all think it's too much? I figured it's my day, so why not!-
ANSWER:
why not! It is your special day and if you want 2 dresses, its your choice. I think a separate dress for the reception is a fabulous idea! Good luck for your wedding and Marriage!

QUESTION:
underskirt for a mermaid shaped wedding dress?
Ive just bought my wedding dress which is a mermaid shape. Its gorgeous but i would like the bottom to flare out like the catalogue pic. I cant find out from the websit what under skirt ill need for it. I think i need to buy an A-line one hoop crinoline to achieve the look i want. Did anyone have this shape dress for there wedding day, and what did they wear underneath? Thanks-
ANSWER:
Usually, they already come with a built-in netting to give the dress body or flare, but sometimes the netting is not enough to give the flare that you wanted. Don't get the hoop skirt, it won't work for the mermaid silhouette dresses. You will need something like this one. I found this on Ebay. They are kind of hard to find. Usually it's A-line or full.http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Fitted-Mermaid-Crinoline-Petticoat-SMALL_W0QQitemZ150264040884QQihZ005QQcategoryZ105469QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

ANSWER:
well my server will not allow my to see your links, so i can't rate the dresses but i will help with the rest. For a summer wedding you will want to go with brighter colors. maybe use yellows and bright blues and greens and orange. I think you should use a different color for each girl's dress. let them decide what color they want. If you want to use just one color for the bridesmaids, I suggest a bright blue color or a summery green. For the flower girls, i would once again put each one in a different color and use a bright and fun yellow. Just think all things summery. that will help to make an elegant, yet fun and bubbly wedding. Hope this helps!

QUESTION:
How can I modify my mermaid wedding dress and make it more flattering for my shape?
I bought this Jessica McClintock dress for my October wedding, and it is a mermaid style dress. I am a pear shape body type with a small bust, long torso, and short legs and everyone says this style of dress will not look good on me. I am 8 1/2 months pregnant so I cant even try the dress on yet and see how it looks, but have some months after my baby is due to lose the weight and alter it. I want to change it to a sweetheart neckline and was thinking about using a ribbon or something to make it look more like an empire style dress. What do you guys think? This is the dress...http://www.jessicamcclintock.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&productId=156602&categoryId=10331&subcatname=Wedding%20Gowns&spage=1&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10318
Our wedding colors are red and gold.
Also the Part where it flares out is actually much higher on my dress than it shows in the Picture. I was thinking about sewing in cuPs or maybe even getting silicone enhancers with a Push uP bra...
Yeah, my baby is due in less than a month, and my wedding is in October. Read the info Please... Thanks to all the other suggestions!

QUESTION:
Can I pull off a mermaid wedding dress?
I'm about to go looking at dresses and I already have my heart kinda set on the mermaid style. Then a trusted friend of mine said maybe I can't wear that style, as I am curvier in the hips than in the bust. That's true--however I thought first of all, I can pad the bust part of the dress, and second, I'm not very big anywhere (5'4", dress size 2). What do you think? I have a definite waist, I am just not real busty. I know I need to try on dresses to see if each one looks good, but should I start being prepared that I might not look good in mermaid? Or would you say that as long as you're pretty slender, it's okay to have curvy hips in this dress style?-
ANSWER:
I'm sure you can pull it off. Try it on and see. Mermaid wasn't even on my list and that style looked fantastic on me. My best advice is to try on every single style, even ones you don't think you like.

QUESTION:
Is it best to wear a ball gown or a slender, mermaid style type wedding dress for an outdoor wedding?
i am getting married next year, and the reception is going to be in my fiance's aunt's very large backyard.it may sound silly, but would wearing a ball gown be too overdressed? since its outside?
-
ANSWER:
I am getting married in an outdoor garden and am wearing this dresshttp://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=royale&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=8&style=J199
Some people may say it looks overdone...BUT I have always wanted to get married outdoors, and I have always wanted a "princess" style dress. Considering the fact I only plan on getting married once, I could care less what others think on this matter
Normally, I hate people who respond w/"do what you want, it's your day" ~ but in this instance, you really should do what you want. No one will complain that a bride looks too overdressed on her wedding day.
Best of luck to you

QUESTION:
My Wedding Dress: Mermaid or Ballgown?
Can't decide on a beautiful strapless mermaid dress, beaded at the top, it's fit to about the waist and then flows out big ruffles...or a strapless beaded boddess that flows out with little beading at the very bottom..-
ANSWER:
From your descriptions of the dress, it sounds like you're partial to the mermaid one. I don't know if you've tried them both on yet, but if you haven't, do so. Sometimes just putting on a dress gives you a clear picture of what you want and what feels like "the dress". Also, think about how you want to be perceived. Is the mermaid more revealing than you want? Does the ballgown type dress not feel like you? Ask yourself these types of questions. Good luck!

QUESTION:
Dressmaker has sewn my mermaid style wedding dress with a seam at the knee going across - fix?
Is this usual? I really hate it.
I wanted my dress like this http://www.bluebyenzoani.com/main.html but instead it is more like this http://p.lefux.com/61/20100816/A197500BIO/InsetImage/Beaded-Layered-Mermaid-Bridal-Gown-Wedding-Dress.jpgIs there any way this can be 'fixed' or is it a fatal flaw?
Sorry for the broken links - if you google for dakota enzoani or belfast enzoani that should give an idea of the dress I had in mind and the actual dres basically is like a shift dress with a big tutu at the bottom joined onto the dress with a seam.I showed her pictures of what I had in mind and none of those had a seam but I did not specifically said I did not want one, as I had never seen a dress WITH one in the style I wanted.

Not giving up I went to the second and saw a gorgeous gown and right across the knee was a banner with their advertisement.
I really think you.have a problem otherwise you would not have been here. All brides want perfection and if there is a flaw you want it fixed . I don't know what to do unless you can get a picture of the gown from the waist down and send it email to me.

QUESTION:
My sister is getting married and we are looking for wedding dresses. Do you know any places?
David's Bridal was a bust. Not enough selection. Her colors are sapphire, silver, and ivory (or white). She wants a mermaid style wedding dress that's elegant, and not plain. We also need bridesmaid gowns...most of her braidsmaids are voluptous...from sizes 12-18. She's about a 0 or 2. I've been looking under prom dresses because there is a lot more style. We want long dresses...and I can't seem to find many sapphire dresses. Also, I'm the maid of honor, so we are thinknig about putting me in silver, or a combination of silver and sapphire. Anywayz, I went to david's bridal...we are going to go to bridal town, and i looked at mary's bridal. I scanned a few other places, but was wondering if you may know any websites for bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses...especially that have the color sapphire!-

QUESTION:
Mermaid style or ballgown style wedding dress?
I'm in the process of picking out a wedding dress. I found two that I've completely fallen in love with. One is a mermaid style dress and the other is a ballgown. The way they look isn't what I'm concerned about. I'm just concerned about how I'm going to feel in them, if that makes any sense.Like, I've heard that mermaids are hard to walk and dance in. Is that true?
And I've also heard that ballgowns are heavy and hard to sit in. Is that true?Has anyone ever wore a mermaid or ballgown for their wedding?
What are the pros and cons of the style you wore? Thanks so much, everyone!
-
ANSWER:
I wore a mermaid gown - Benjamin Roberts 930 (AKA Anjolique is the USA). My dress flared out quite high up so didn't look "80s" and was easy to walk/dance in. The style doesn't suit everyone, esp if the flare is quite low down - then need a good figure and to be careful re undergarments etc - maybe get a few independent views (from impartial people) as to which you suit more....the photographs will last longer than any temporary minor issues with walking or sitting down... When I was trying another mermaid on in one shop I had an awful lot of people comment how much it suited me.... that is really worth noting as you want to know you feel great on your special day.
I hope you are happy with your choice.

QUESTION:
would a halterneck wedding dress work with over the elbow gloves?
Seen a lovely mermaid silouette wedding dress, sleek and figure hugging. But could it be teamed with long gloves/cuffs? Having a winter wedding... Im quite athletic figured, slim. 5'5 without heels
-
ANSWER:
Personally, I think that would look fabulous!!!!
I think gloves look elegant with almost anything, but with a halter top wedding dress, figure hugging, I think it would just top it off.
I don't have an imagination, but I can actually see this, and in my mind it looks great ...
I would perhaps then go with a very discreet vail, one that perhaps is very small, like the one that Reese Witherspoon wore in Sweet Home Alabama.

QUESTION:
what kind of wedding dress suits me?
I'm very short only. 4"11 I want to know what king of wedding dress will look nice on me. I have a curvy body I love corset tops or halter tops and I don't want to much puff and I don't like mermaid dresses. Just send me the name of the dress and ill google it! Thanks!-
ANSWER:
I'm 5' and curvy. I thought I knew what kind of dress would look best. I then consulted with the online experts. We were both wrong lol. Just go and try on a lot of different looks until you see what really looks sharp on you. This one is my favourite (only I'd prefer white):
http://www.morilee.com/Bridals/Bridal/dressint.php?idves=2507&idcat=1&idscat=1&npic=6&npag=1&bsel=
I find it shows enough curve without going overboard, and the angled line on the skirt elongates. The detailing at the top pulls the eyes up and the folds on the stomach hide the less-desirable curves
I would have never thought this dress would look so beautiful on my body as it does so honestly, just go and see a lot of dresses on your body, you could really be surprised.
Good luck!
