It is quite fascinating how titanium has emerged these days as one of the most popular materials used for wedding bands. A few decades ago, when wedding rings are being discussed, it seems like the only options are gold and silver. Now titanium wedding rings are almost dominating the market.
A few years back, people are using titanium only for aviation and medicine. Using this metal for jewelries, specifically rings, is quite a new concept. Still, more and more people these days are encouraged to have titanium even for their wedding bands.
For those who are still stuck with the traditional thought that wedding rings have to be either gold or silver, they find it difficult to understand why titanium is a good material too. If you are also not convinced yet, you need to know that some of the key properties in titanium make it well loved by a lot of people.
Benefits of Opting for Titanium Wedding Bands
1. Titanium is more practical and affordable: Couples who are getting married these days are smarter when it comes to spending their budget for the wedding. If it is necessary to stick with a tight budget, titanium wedding rings can be a perfect choice. It is also durable and looks elegant but it cost less that gold or platinum wedding rings. The importance of the wedding ring is what it signifies for the couple who will be wearing it. It should not be about the price.
2. Titanium wedding bands do not trigger allergic reactions: There are people who simply could not wear metal jewelries because they get rashes and skin irritation. Does that mean that you can not wear your wedding band unless it is not made of metal? Thanks to titanium wedding rings, you would not have to worry about allergies anymore. This metal does not react with human skin. So, it does not cause allergies. Actually, because it is non reactive, it can even be used for transplants. How’s that for being hypoallergenic?
3. Titanium wedding bands can last for years: When it comes to wedding rings, durability is one of the main concerns. Titanium is actually very strong and durable. It is so strong that people who build aircrafts, planes and submarines even use it. The malleability of this metal allows it to retain its shape. It does not simply get deformed and would not dent easily. Some couples who want to save some money for the wedding rings end up buying a gold or silver band that is not thick enough. This will easily go out of shape. You would not encounter the same problem with titanium.
Since titanium is becoming a popular choice these days, there are already a lot of different designs in the market. Some are made to be simple and plain while others have inlays to make it look more intricate. If you are planning to buy titanium wedding bands, it would be easy to find the pair which will reflect the personality of both of you.

QUESTION:
Where can I find unique, black, tungsten or titanium wedding bands?
My fiance and I would like something unique, not too modern/geometrical, in tungsten or titanium. I know this is soooo specific, I'd also settle for something silver in color and just really unique. Thanks!

My husband got his tungsten ring at http://www.larsonjewelers.com/ and he absolutely loves it. They have a whole bunch of different rings like the black tungsten and celtic ones you are looking for.

QUESTION:
What are titanium wedding bands? Is titanium a precious metal like gold?
Why are they so cheap? Are they like gold and platinum?I was thinking of white gold and platinum bands. Is titanium better or just a cheaper rendition?
-
ANSWER:
Titanium is a natural element, that is mined from the ground. It's stronger than gold and platinum, and hypoallergenic. It usually has a very dull finish to it, and doesn't shine as much as gold or platinum.Titanium is cheaper than gold and platinum because it isn't considered a precious metal, but it's much more scratch resistant than gold and platinum. It's also a naturally grey-ish colour that never fades. It's also super light-weight. In fact, you'll feel like you're not really wearing anything when you're wearing it, as compared to gold, platinum or silver rings.
Titanium is a good choice, but keep in mind that once you buy a titanium ring, it can never be sized further in the future. So, as time goes by and you and your significant other's finger size changes, you'll be stuck with a titanium ring that cannot be sized, and you'll probably have to buy another ring to replace it.

QUESTION:
Anyone seen any awesome black titanium wedding bands for men on the web? Or do you advise against?
My fiancé is looking for a black titanium wedding band with a unique design. He loves the carbon fiber look. Please help...Or do you strongly advise against black titanium?
-
ANSWER:
I advise against. I will advise against ANY titanium after what we found out.My FI is also way into the carbon fiber/gunmetal rings so we shopped for titanium for him. Then we found out something kinda scary that most people don't seem to know while I was having surgery. The same great thing about titanium bieng indestructable that made us look at it in the first place is the same reason why we won't be buying one. If your hubby is in a car accident, hits his finger with a hammer, whatever and his fingers start to swell the titanium bands can only be cut off using a special saw. The problem is most hospitals don't have that saw on hand and the swelling cuts off circulation to the finger and he can lose it completely! (think tying a string around the end and see it turn purple)
Instead we found a jewler who sells steel rings in the same look. visually you can't tell the diff., they are just as durable, but they can get easily cut off so no losing wedding finger.

QUESTION:
Titanium wedding bands... what do you think?
My fiance likes the look, feel and strength (they will last forever, never bend, get scratched or break) of titanium for our wedding bands... what do you think?-
ANSWER:
I agree the bands do not have to match. If he wants Titanium go for it. Personally I think the Titanium looks rather dull. I don't consider it a precious metal either. And as someone who has been married for 26 years (and at year 20 got new wedding bans), I don't think you necessarily have to have bands that are indestructible and last forever. Who could have thought 26 years ago how much deep our love would grow. Getting new bands as a restatement at 20 years was pretty special too. (I still have the originals and wear them occasionally, but they are much simpler). Styles change, don't get hung up on these things.

QUESTION:
What do you think about having black titanium wedding bands? Does the black seem morbid or something?
I know the traditional is gold, and that maybe if someone saw a black band on our ring fingers they might not know its a wedding band... That its just another ring. Or maybe one might think that black is a horrible color to signify a marriage and/or the rings but I don't know.. I really love the look and I am going to go into a few jewelers in the next week to see how they feel. But really, since the concept of titanium rings is new, and the black titanium is new to being used as wedding bands, what are your opinions on it?-
ANSWER:
My boyfriend wants a black tungsten ring. I don't picture him ever wearing something gold or silver because it is not his personality. He is a mechanic and having that kind of ring would hold up better with his line of work.As long as he wears it on the correct finger, I don't see why anyone would say it isn't a wedding band. I think you need to go with what you like and what represents him. Good luck!

QUESTION:
Whats the benefits of having a Titanium wedding band?
My wife and me went to pick out wedding bands together well i told her i just wanted something plain and simple well she got me a titanium wedding ring so whats the benefit of having titanium over over metals?
ment to say over other metals?-
ANSWER:
Titanium provides several unique factors that make it a great metal for jewelry. Titanium is very affordable, making titanium wedding bands a popular option. Titanium rings also come in many variations and can be engraved so each titanium ring can be unique. It's strength and durability make titanium a great choice for a ring. Titanium is the hardest natural metal in the world making it a very durable option. It is very strong and is thre etimes the strength of steel and much stronger than gold, silver, or platinum. Titanium is also very light weight. It's more resistent to dents and scratching than other metals as well.
Crowds cheer Monaco’s Prince Albert and new brideMONTE CARLO (Reuters) - With a wink and a smile, Monaco's ruler Prince Albert married South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock on Saturday in a ceremony attended by a who's who of European royalty and the international elite.
The 53-year-old married Wittstock, 33, in the courtyard of his palace at the foot of a vast white-marble double staircase lined with white flowers. Some 3,500 guests sat outside to watch the service on giant TV screens.
Albert's sisters, Princesses Caroline and Stephanie, both dressed in pink, smiled as they watched the couple marry in front of a crowd that included French President Nicolas Sarkozy,...
Pure titanium is safe for anyone to wear as it is 100% hypoallergenic so it will not react to skin as some other metals do. Titanium does not react to sunlight or salt water as some other metals do. This is especially important for titanium wedding rings which will be worn every day for many years.
Titanium does not require any special maintenance to keep it looking its best. Unlike white gold rings, which often have a coating to help them stay more white, titanium rings do not require a coating. The natural color of titanium will not fade. To clean a titanium ring, a soft cloth and warm soapy water can be used.
One of the drawbacks to titanium rings is that they are not able to be resized. Since titanium is so strong and durable, once the ring is made, it cannot be made larger or smaller. This should be considered when buying a wedding band that you plan to wear for the rest of your life.
Another concern some people have about titanium is whether or not it can be cut off in case of an emergency. Titanium can be cut off but it may take longer than a gold or platinum ring. Most hospitals and jewelers carry necessary tools to remove a titanium ring if an emergency occurs.
As with any jewelry item, it is important to make an informed decision about titanium Rings. They do offer affordability and are hypoallergenic. However, not being able to be re-sized can be a drawback for some people.

QUESTION:
I am looking for a celtic black titanium wedding band, with a matching engagement ring?
I have looked at a few titanium ring sites but have yet to find a womens celtic wedding band that would match any celtic black titanium engagement ring. Does anyone know of a site that does custom rings, or if you have seen what I am looking for?-
ANSWER:
Titanium is a greyish coloured metal, black titanium is actually coated and the coating can come off in time. Therefore I would recommend zirconium, it is a naturally black metal with similar properties to titanium.
There is an amazing selection of titanium and zirconium rings at
http://www.oghamjewellery.com/showitems.php?category=83
There are almost 100 styles of titanium wedding rings there and most can be ordered in titanium or black zirconium. They also have diamond set and celtic titanium rings, they can also be custom made to order in different widths etc.

QUESTION:
Do any jewelry stores or pawn shops buy titanium wedding band sets?
I have a man/woman matching wedding band set, made of titanium. I'm hearing from pawn shops that they only buy gold. Are there any stores that would buy a titanium wedding band set?-
ANSWER:
Titanium wedding bands are certainly nice pieces of jewelry, but their actual value to a pawn shop are limited. Titanium, although highly desirable for rings, tools, knives, cookware, and a host of other items, is actually not a very pricey metal. Depending on the type of titanium alloy, it sells for roughly /lb to /lb.In contrast, a single ounce of pure gold (equivalent to 1/16 of a pound) sells for around ,200 and a single ounce of pure silver sells for about -. Thus, an ounce of silver is worth roughly 10 times more money than an ounce of titanium... and an ounce of gold is worth roughly 700 times more than the same quantity of titanium.
So, although people really enjoy a ring made of titanium since it is rather unique, the fact of the matter is that titanium isn't worth anywhere near what gold and silver can fetch.
This poses a problem for pawn shops. Ordinarily, a pawn shop will buy a piece of jewelry according to its gold or silver weight. They buy at a price which will allow them to make a decent profit even if the items were immediately melted down and sold as bricks. If certain pieces of jewelry look particularly nice, they will try to sell them for a certain percentage more than what they could get if they melted them down. If the jewelry sits in the case for a long time without selling, however, eventually the pawn shop will just pull the item off the shelf and "send it to the melt".
In the case of your titanium rings, they have a pretty decent retail value... but they have almost no melt value at all. An ounce of titanium isn't worthless, but at only to ... it might just as well be to a pawn shop.
So if a pawn shop were to buy your rings, they'd have to cross their fingers that somebody will stroll through their store and buy them out of the display case. If not, the pawn shop doens't really have the option of melting them down and the jewelry becomes a loss for that shop.
That's why the majority of pawn shops won't really bother with titanium. Titanium is one of those metals that jewelers make a WHOLE TON OF MONEY selling, even though the metal itself isn't worth very much at all.

QUESTION:
replacing gold wedding bands with titanium ones?
so my husband and I have decided to replace our gold bands with titanium ones. mine doesn't fit anymore and I have always been afraid of losing it since it was his great-grandmothers. and we have heard that titanium is rather inexpensive and durable. so I was wondering where is a good place to buy good looking decently priced titanium rings.
hmm, I didn't know that you couldn't size them the reason my original one doesn't fit is because I have had 2 kids and we do plan on having more. I may have to reconsider-
ANSWER:
We chose Titanium for my husband because of its durability but if you are someone who can't stand your ring to look dull and scratched up these are not the ones for you. My hubby's ring is horribly scratched up and it drives me nuts. He say's it is really comfortable though. I wanted to replace it with white gold but he will not let me. They are really lightweight. True you can't size them but they are very cost effective.

QUESTION:
Can a metal detector find my lost titanium wedding band?
My wife still cries when I slip on the little titanium band I got on ebay for . She reminds me how she'd had my original band engraved especially for me. I lost it in a sorghum field over two years ago.
I returned to the field with a rented metal detector. I found all sorts of rusty junk, but no ring. Later that week, I learned in an electronics class that metal detectors only detect ferrous metals. So unless my titanium ring was alloyed with some iron, even a really good metal detector was useless.
I've scoured the net and read a lot of accounts from people who have set-off airport metal detectors with titanium body jewelry. So unless these people had a different titanium alloy than mine, the technology does exist to detect titanium.
So my question is this: is there a handheld metal detector that might find a small piece of titanium buried in soil?-
ANSWER:
There are metal detectors and metal detectors.Good ones CAN detect non-ferrous metals, otherwise, how do airport metal detectors find non-ferrous coins?
The cheap ones work like a guitar pickup, with magnetic excitation. Primo ones are more radar-like.
Hunt around. Be specific.

QUESTION:
How do I get my titanium wedding band sized from 12 to 11.5?
They don't sell half sizes, and a shop I went to said they can't weld a strip around the inside to make it smaller, because of the titanium.-
ANSWER:
I am sorry, but your wedding band can not be sized--what they may be able to do however, is weld sizing beads inside the band to make it smaller--these beads would be made of white gold and would not match your band though. The other option would be a sizing bar, this would also be made of white gold, but atlead you would be able to keep the band!

QUESTION:
I'm looking to get a wedding band titanium, tungsten or platinum?
I was wondering if anyone could help me decide what sort of wedding band to get either titanium, tungsten or platinum?I want something hard wearing, light, shiny and something that I can get an engraving into?
Thanks
What does everyone think of pallidium? Many thanks-
ANSWER:
I would say go with tungsten. I have a white gold engagement ring I wear with my tungsten wedding band and I have a lot more scratches on the engagement ring than the tungsten one.Tungsten is very hard and they don't scratch like my engagement ring. They're not light though, they're heavier but it's not a big deal. They're very shiny. They shine as well as my engagement ring. My husband and I got them at http://www.tungstenworld.com/ and they have an engraving program too so if you want something engraved, you can play around and choose what you want engraved on it before you buy.

Camo Rings from Titanium-Buzz Put a Fashionable Twist on Hunting SeasonLinden, MI (PRWEB) November 23, 2010
Titanium-Buzz.com, a leading designer and retailer of titanium rings, announced it is adding a new series of exclusive camo rings to its existing collection. The current line of titanium rings, which showcases inlays of RealTree and Mossy Oak brand camouflage, is being expanded to include the Mossy Oak Infinity Break-Up pattern, camo wedding rings for women, and a new Black Zirconium Camo Ring.
"Our goal back in 2008 was to create a line of rings that would appeal to outdoorsmen," said Kevin Begola, founder of Titanium-Buzz and the chief architect behind the camo rings....
I was wondering if someone knowing metals or having either metal for bands know which is better. Which is less likely to scuff?
Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Titanium is a lighter weight metal. It can't be re-sized but it can be scratched thought it does buff out. It's very strong and it's very popular. Titanium comes in many colors now.Tungsten is a very heavy metal, that can not be scratched or re-sized. It's VERY durable and it's normally only a dark color.
People will tell you that if you hurt your hand there is no way of getting the ring off, but that is false. Though both rings can not be hurt, they BOTH CAN be broken off in an emergency so don't worry about that. Just pick one that you know he will like. I suggest you taking him to go and try them on, depending on what he likes the Tungsten may be too heavy or wide. He may like a 6.5mm band instead of 8mm. My fiance picked a 6.5mm because he has smaller hands and the 8mm was too over powering. He also chose a combination or black and silver titanium w/a gray inlay.

QUESTION:
Can I add a stone to a titanium wedding band?
My husband has a titanium band with light engraving on the inside. I was told it is hard to size titanium but was wondering if I can have it enhanced by having a sapphire added to it. Does anyone know if this can be done? If so do you know of a jeweler in the CT/MA/NH area? Thanks!
P.S. - I had thought to ask the jeweler I bought the ring from, but they are out of business.-
ANSWER:
We set round stones directly into titanium all the time; sapphires, diamonds, and rubies are strong enough to withstand the pressure we have to use in the setting process. You can see examples of our titanium rings with sapphires here: http://ringsforever.com/rings/element/sapphires It is hard to recommend jewelers who can do this in a particular area--they must manufacture titanium and many stores do not do this even though they may carry titanium jewelryWe also re-size titanium rings.

QUESTION:
Would you consider purchasing a black titanium TIMOKU ring as a wedding band?
Just curious if you would consider wearing, or purchasing, a TIMOKU black titanium wedding band. It is not a traditional ring for a mens wedding band - like a white or yellow gold band. But are you really looking for traditional or ordinary? Trying to get a feel for how many people are willing to break free from the traditional wedding bands.
Here is what they look like: http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/edward-mirell-timoku-collection.html-
ANSWER:
If it's your thing than go for it. I am an advocate for both breaking away from tradition and/or incorporating a little tradition to contemporary looks. I personally do not like the ring because it does not compliment my style and taste. However, for those who do find it appealing and want to use these bands as oppose to the more traditional ones, I say do it. Your wedding day is YOURS. It is not like back in the old days where weddings were all standard and the same. Now there are literally hundreds of things you can do or do not have to do.

QUESTION:
those tungston carbide (sp?) and titanium mens wedding bands?
ok, i have heard that the tungston carbide ones have to be cut off if they ever get stuck on a man's finger, so presumably you cant engrave them, right? can you engrave them? what about titanium ones? would they have to be cut off and can you engrave them? my fiance works in a steel mill so obviously his ring will take a beating (no he doesnt wear it while working, but taking it off and throwing it in lockers etc, it gets beaten) so i dont want to get white gold. if tungston and titanium are not able to be engraved, can someone tell me about a knockoff or some other harder metal ring that CAN be engraved? no gold, white gold, silver, or platinum please. thanks!
thanks so far! what about a metal thats not AS hard as tungsten or titanium (they sound like a pain to get engraved so far!), and not as soft as gold, but will still look nice and be engraveable?-
ANSWER:
I think tungsten carbide rings can be engraved. It is done by a laser. (Tungsten carbide can be scratched by diamonds. Also, most people don't know the technology is not new. It has been around for a very long time. )A very good version of tungsten carbide's market cost is around .00 an ounce or around a pound. That version contains boron which makes it even stronger.
"If your ring has existing engraving, we will also re-engrave for no additional fee (unless it is not our standard engraving) for a shipping handling fee of .00."
http://www.tungstenpride.com/"Engraved Tungsten rings will be charged a refurbishing fee of .00 if you wish to return or exchange the ring."
http://titaniumstyle.com/information.htm"Free engraving on all tungsten bands!"
http://www.nextag.com/tungsten-wave-wedding-bands/search-html"Do you engrave tungsten rings?
A. YES, We offer laser engraving. The fee is .00. Engrave up to 25 characters. Please note that engraved rings are non-returnable, non-refundable. For this reason, we recommend you purchase the ring first to ensure proper fit and satisfaction, then you may send it to us for engraving. Because Tungsten Carbide is one of the world's hardest metals, special machinery is required to engrave on it. Not only must the machine be able to penetrate the metal, but it must do it in a way that isn't so deep as to harm the integrity of the ring. Please note: because engraving is permanent and creates a heirloom, we cannot accept returns on engraved items.

QUESTION:
Titanium wedding band question?
I love the look and durability of a titanium wedding ring for my guy. My question is can titanium be engraved? I want to have something engraved on the inside of the band.
Jane- He is a chef, so I think titanium is good for him but I will check out the tungsten carbide. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
Yes. In case you didn't know, titanium can scratch. Depending on his career, you may want to consider Tungsten Carbide. It is the most durable metal you can choose for a man's band. It cannot be resized, but Benchmark (and I think most) offer a lifetime warranty (at no cost) to replace the ring if you need a new size! This may be the same with titanium. Depending on what you're looking for, titanium is very light and the tungsten carbide is more heavy duty.

How do I take the blemishes off of it jewelry cleaner does not seem to be working?-

QUESTION:
Titanium wedding band almost 0!?
Are we being taken for a ride here? We went to look at wedding bands for my fiance tonight and he found a titanium wedding band that has both a matte and brushed finish (although the brushed finish had a slightly sparkly appearance - not like a typical brushed look) and it was over 0.00.This is a small mom and pop jeweler in town and we've already purchased my engagement and wedding band from them (and fiance got a really good price on my rings), but we're curious about why this ring might have come with such a high price tag. The (clueless) salesperson answered that question by saying that it's because that ring was being discontinued and it had a "comfort band." Neither of these really explain the high price of this ring to us.
We hopped online and couldn't find anything to compare to this price. Even titanium rings with diamonds were cheaper.
A side note: fiance and I were originally looking for a tungsten with carbide ring and the salesperson said, "This one is titanium. But tungsten... titanium... basically the same thing."
Any advice?
-
ANSWER:
Stay away from titanium. Titanium is lighter than most rings but given some time, it will scratch, fade and look horrible. My friend has a titanium band and after 2 years, it just looks like a faded grey mess. That doesn't make sense either, if the ring is being discontinued, then it should be cheaper since it's a clearance item. Having comfort band just means it's rounded on the inside, that doesn't make it more expensive.
I think your first instinct was right. My husband and I got tungsten rings as our wedding bands from http://www.larsonjewelers.com/ and we could not be happier. They will also engrave your ring at no extra cost too.

Can you have a grooms gold wedding band dipped in titanium or tungsten?
I was given my dads wedding band, which is gold, after he passed away and I'd like to use it for sentimental reasons of course but would like to have it dipped. I like the harder metals and have always liked the titanium and tungsten looks but I am just looking into my options. Thanks-
ANSWER:
unfortunately no, that won't workwhat you could do is have it dipped in rhodium which will make it white gold...
if you're worried about damaging it through working with it on and/or daily wear you could save it for special occasions (such as the wedding) and get a tungsten (the harder of the two you listed) and wear that for every-day or work, this way you'd get to respect your fathers memory/have the sentimental value, while also protecting it

QUESTION:
I may be getting a titanium wedding band. I've heard they can't be cut in case of emergency. True or false?
I've heard arguments that EMTs can not cut a titanium ring if you're in an accident and your finger begins to swell. I've also heard that they do have the means to cut titanium. Does anyone have a definitive answer. Thanks.-
ANSWER:
yes they can cut through titanium at the hospital.....BUT the EMT's probably won't be able to get through it in the event they were working you as a patient. The trauma shears they use are very powerful, however, they can cut through any kind of clothing, boots, and you can even cut a penny in half, but not strong OR petite enough to get under your ring and cut it off. But the hospital, once you get there....they can virtually do anything!!!

QUESTION:
Titanium wedding rings?
We are conidering buying titanium wedding bands, however I have read conflicting reviews.
Some say that titanum will scratch easily others say that is is more scratch resistant than gold or silver. What do you know?-
ANSWER:
Titanium can scratch, just not as easily as gold or silver. BTW, silver wedding bands are a bad idea because they can tarnish and they're not very durable. If you want an inexpensive metal, look into tungsten carbide. It's scratch resistant, has a nice weight to it (some find titanium to be too light), and it looks really nice.
My husband has a few tungsten carbide rings and he loves them more than his platinum band.

QUESTION:
Titanium Wedding Band: Bike Tubing?
Hey Everyone,I am looking for a Titanium wedding band made from the tubing of a bicycle frame. This is an unusual request, but I am an avid (almost religious) cyclist and it would alot much to my fiance and I if we could incorporate this aspect of cycling into our wedding and future together.
I have contacted all the major bike companies that I know of via e-mail and none do this or know of anyone that does so.
Any and all suggestions would be welcome. I am listening with open ears. =)
Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
I think bike tubing would be too thin walled to be very good for making a ring, and size might also be a problem. There are many rings available made from titanium, but I doubt that anybody uses bike tubing for making rings.

QUESTION:
I bought a titanium wedding band and now I am concerned if it is real or not?
on the inside of the ring, it says TD in a triangle, then it says titanium...any ideas if it is real or not?-
ANSWER:
to figure it out look for a "pt" or "plat" stamp.
Most new platinum jewelry has a cobalt alloy blend and will have a "pt 950" or "plat 950" stamp inside the ring band. A good test you can do to check if it's got cobalt is to put it to a strong magnet. Cobalt is highly magnetic.

QUESTION:
Men's wedding bands Stainless steel vs titanium? ?
What are the pros and cons of both stainless steel and Titanium? Do you know anything about either metal?Would a white-gold band be a better option?
-
ANSWER:
They are very very different. As for stainless steel, I bet you mean sterling silver. Either way don't go with something that cheap. It's your wedding band. You want it to last.Titanium is completely different all together. It's very rugged and holds up best in salt water. I love the look of it. Titanium has some advantages. It won’t irritate sensitive skin or cause breakouts. Titanium is resistant to decay. A ring made from titanium will last longer than one made from metals such as gold or silver. It is also very light weight. However it cannot be resized so if he gains a lot of weight over the next 30 years, you'll need to buy a new ring. Also, in case of emergency it can't be cut off. That's important if your husband works in an industry that uses his hands a lot.
Personally I'd go with white gold. The main thing is that eventually you will have to get the white gold redipped. It will start to wear off after a while and become yellow gold. But really every 5 years or so is not that big a deal. Platinum is better if you can afford it. White gold is classic and will never go out of style.
Read this though if you are debating tungsten or titanium

QUESTION:
HOW DO i CLEAN MY TITANIUM WEDDING band?-
ANSWER:
I wear only titanium rings and use a little bit of toothpaste like plain, old fashioned Colgate on a soft bristled child's toothbrush (it gets into all the nooks and crannies, especially if you have a stone you need to clean behind). Rinse in warm running water and polish with a soft cloth (like an old t-shirt). Works every time.

QUESTION:
Which is better for a mechanic? A Tungsten Carbide wedding band or a Titanium one?
We are getting married this year and my fiance would like to have a ring that will not scratch or ding easily. He has mechanic hands and would be very very hard on jewelry. So I need to know which of the two is stronger and a better buy for his wedding band?-
ANSWER:
For a mechanic, a tungsten wedding band is definitely the best choice. If you want to see how much stronger tungsten is, you can check out this this video where they try to hammer it like crazy and it doesn't bend:http://youtube.com/watch?v=K1P8LpzFbh8
As far as scratching goes, there's another video here that shows how it's really hard to scratch tungsten as opposed to titanium:

QUESTION:
Are wedding bands supposed to match?
I always thought the bride and grooms bands were supposed to match. The ladies ring a little smaller, but same material, shape, design. But since we started looking at engagement rings, they almost always have a wedding band that matches the diamond ring. Obviously, his wedding band would not match (not even close) if we went with the diamond band that would match the diamond ring. Also, he wants a titanium band, which would not go with my platinum diamond ring, if we were to try and match bands. I guess what I want to know is: What are other people doing these days?-
ANSWER:
Not necessarily, especially if one of the rings is an heirloom.

Should my titanium ring have scratches?
I just got married a few days ago and already notice scratches and marks on my titanium wedding band. I was under the assumption that these rings never scratch. Is there anyway to remove them?-
ANSWER:
Any Metal scratches. Titanium just resists corrosion. Your Jeweller should be able to buff them out if the scratches are not too deep

I am trying to figure out if stainless steel will be less scratch resistant than titanium-

Stainless steel will scratch (think of a stainless steel sink and what it looks like after a few years), plus it definitely lacks the romantic cache of gold, platinum or other jeweler's metals.
