Updos For Weddings

Marriage is that special d 00004000 ay where every bride wants to feel special. Everything needs to be pinch perfect, from head to toe. Hairstyle is one of the most important elements of a bride's overall get up. And what best than a classic bridal updo hairstyle?

Wedding day updo hairstyles for brides can be done in a variety of ways. From French twist to messy bun to half up half down, there are multiple fancy hairdos that can be applied on the hair, depending on the shape of the face of the bride.

Though there are so many different bridal hairstyles, the classic and most popular is the one that has a kind of French bun at the back of the scalp. For creating that perfect updo bridal hairstyle, the following steps should be followed:

1. The hair should be combed or brushed from the forehead and gathered at the nape. Some locks of hair should be left at the front, to be worked on later. The hair should be held towards the left, as if to put in a ponytail. The hair should now be held about 3 inches from the end. Applying hair wax is a good idea. The wax will keep the strands in place.

2. The second step is to twist the hair to the right and lift it. This will have the ends pointing up. The effect will be that of a roll or a twist at the back of the head.

3. The twist should be firmer now so that it is tight. All this while, the ends have to be held with the left hand. The ends of the hair will now be sticking out of the top of the head.

4. Now, with the right hand, the sticking ends need to be folded towards the nape. The ends should now be below and under the twist.

5. Using the left hand to secure the twist, bobby pins should be pinned with the right hand. The pins need to be strategically placed so that they don't show. They should also be facing upward. Ample number of pins should be used so that the entire arrangement is tight and secure.

6. Now that the hair at the back is done, it is time now to work on the locks that were left. The locks should now be brushed or combed and pulled towards the left. After the entire lock is secured, just over the left ear, it has to be secured with bobby pins. As before, an ample number of pins should be used and arranged in such a way that they don't show. The locks should now be attached right above the left ear.

7. The final step is to apply a holding spray so that everything is in place.
The look will be that of a bun at the back and locks arranged over the left ear. To create that look, some loose strands should be left hanging just in front of the right ear. That is all. The perfect classic bridal updo hairstyle is ready.

    Hairstyles For Winter Weddings

The perfect hairstyle will literally be your crowning glory on your wedding day. It is important to choose a "do" which complements your bridal gown style, veil, and your bridal jewelry. Take a look at these trends for elegant hairstyles for winter weddings.

How do I start my own business as a makeup artist?
I am a licensed managing cosmetologist and am just getting started. I would like to be an on site make up artist for events, weddings, parties, print work, functions of all sorts! Maybe even theatre! I want to know what it takes to get started. Supplies, education, expense, everything. I thought about possibly offering updos as well.

    • ANSWER:
what i've learned in cosmo so far is that you have to take extra classes for pretty much anything. well u don't have to. but it helps a lot in the long run. i'd say take a makeup class first, theres one called TNT, its once a week for 4 weeks, and since ur licensed, you can get a discount. but its 00 i think. theres also one called Touche, its 1800 n is the same thing. or theres a place in hollywood that u go n take for a whole week. not sure what that ones called. but i suggest furthering ur career before you start. n practice updos on ur doll heads in the mean time :)

How do I start my own business as a make up artist?

I want to know what it takes to get started. Supplies, education, expense, everything. I thought about possibly offering updos as well.

    • ANSWER:
Well, a business is really hard to start. If you have any friends that do anything related to theatres, modeling, anything in the industry, ask them to get in you in as a makeup artist for free. I suggest doing it for free so you can show these people your work, and then maybe they will suggest you to other designers/theatres/etc. Word of mouth is key. You'll need all the regular supplies of a normal artist, I suggest buying one brand, and possibly getting a sponsorship from them, or have close ties with them so you can get discounts and benefits from being a regular customer. If you have any younger friends (in high school) you could do school formals/proms for students for a cheaper price than competitors. I also suggest going to the mall and doing free makeup demonstrations for people in the mall, and giving them your business cards so they will choose you next time. :)

  8. QUESTION:
Is there a website that has nice hair styles for a wedding?
I'm coming out in one of my friend's weddings next month and I need to pick a hairstyle. Do you guys know of any websites that have both updos or just regular styles with your hair down?

    • ANSWER:
i just went through this last month. what i did was googled 'wedding updos' and I looked at pics of celebrity styles at fancy events. this helped me narrow it down. also, take a look at wedding planning websites (ie. www.theknot.com) or bridesmaid websites. google was my best friend in trying to figure this all out.

i just thought of something else, ask this question again in the wedding section. you're sure to get plenty of websites and advice.

Sorry for all the questions, but it would be a great deal of help (:

    • ANSWER:
The dress is stunning! It's so elegant and classy. Love the bouquet, the colors are lovely! It's so romantic.

      1) I prefer traditional wedding cake, but cupcakes can be just as beautiful and elegant. Definitely have to do dinner! It's your choice for the dessert buffet, but if you can afford it then definitely do it.
      2) I love the hairstyle you chose! Definitely go w/ that, it'd be beautiful with your dress :)
      3) W/ that hairstyle I don't think you need anything. But flowers are lovely, perhaps you should go w/ a simple tiara to go w/ the romantic vibe.
      4) It's hard to say, what's your price range?
      5) I love outdoor weddings, but I'm kind of a simple girl. It's what you're trying to do and the atmosphere you want to create. Indoor is definitely more convenient.
      6) I think that the second one should be good!

My youngest son is sleeping and i cant run to the store to buy some more at this time, and when he wakes up it should be about the time that i should be really really close to ready

    • ANSWER:
How about just curling your hair with a CURLING IRON instead of spending all that time and effort doing the "finger rolls"? Cut your wait time by an hour or more!

If your adamant that you want to continue with the "finger rolls," then how about trying to mcguyver some aluminum foil folded flat a few times, then thinly wrap around the rolls to hold them together? Just an idea...Hope You Have a GREAT Time Tonight!!!

  13. QUESTION:
do i need a license to style hair?
i've always loved styling hair, updos, wedding do's, etc... i'm really good at it and have done a few weddings for friends and dances for little sisters and their friends. i have never gone to any type of schooling for it and so don't have a cosmetology license. i wanted to start my own business for just styling, no cutting, dying, etc. JUST STYLING. do i need a cosmetology license to do so? or just a business license (seattle, wa)?

    • ANSWER:
Yes. Especially if your charging...And if you do start a business, You would most likely have to go through the state board, as well, which depends on your state...as well as posting a Cosmetology License, that you don't have up.

On the other hand, You could Legally open up a Salon, and hire licensed professionals. While, You can't touch the clients hair, You can still be involved in the industry.

  14. QUESTION:
Please give me your hair opinions?
I was looking into updo's for my wedding, and I came across this one:

    http://weddings.theknot.com/ODB/themes/realweddings/detailview.aspx?id=28142&type=3&specific_detail=updos&pageIndex=1

But my face is kind of round, would this look alright? Or should I leave my hair down? I just don't want to get it all in my face while I'm dancing the night away, etc.

    • ANSWER:
It's kind of hard to tell from that picture... but this is what I like to tell brides (and people in general) as far as styling goes...

If you have a round face, you want something that's going to elongate it.... either height on the top or length (shoulder-length or longer) If you have something that's fuller on the sides (or if the updo sticks out of the sides from the back) it's going to create MORE width, which you obviously are worried about. So find something that's either down (or maybe with the sides pulled back/up and the backs worn down) or all up with a *little* height on top.

The same thing applies to someone with a skinny/longer face... but the opposite... you want to create more width rather than length/height to balance it out, so that person would want something that's a bit fuller on th sides.

Hope this helps you! Good luck!

ps... I have a round face as well, and I am going to go with a half-up and half-down style. Pinned up very lazily and big loose curls... a very romantic look :)

  16. QUESTION:
Will this work in hair that's not VERY long?
I am in a wedding next saturday & trying to decide how to wear my hair. I found this photo http://weddings.theknot.com/ODB/themes/realweddings/detailview.aspx?id=32198&type=3&specific_detail=updos&pageindex=0 which is very similar to how I wore my hair on my wedding day. However I let my hair grow for over a year before our wedding & right now my hair is almost shoulder length. Will the stylist be able to pull something like this off for the length of my hair?

I am open to any suggestions on how to wear my hair so THANKS! in advance.

    • ANSWER:
If you're not real picky about it being *exactly* like that, I don't see why something similar can't be done...

The best thing to do is to take the picture to your stylist and have her/him look at it and they can tell you for sure. It's hard for me to say for sure cuz I can't see your hair ("shoulder length" means different things to different people, plus if your hair has shorter layers it could be more difficult to do)

      Hope this helps, good luck!
