      My wedding will be at the end of March and I'm in a similar situation. I love deep purples, he loves mid-to-dark blues. So we are actually using both colors and adding splashes of forest green to keep with the dark hues or yellow to lighten them up (unsure of right now).

    Alright well my cousin is getting married and though I'm only 18, I'm the only one actually helping her plan the wedding because her sister is London for a over seas program and everyone else is either busy or lazy.

    So my cousin is a very traditional, yet nontraditional person as am I. She's having a black and white wedding with all the bridesmaids wearing very adorable "little black dresses" with white silk neckscarfs (the 1950s style kind). She needed ideas for bouquets though because it's a winter wedding (December 08) and winter flowers are hard to find.

    I was thinking she would have a full-on white rose and white orchid bouquet tied in black ribbon BUT all the bridesmaids wouldn't have bouquets but each holding one single white orchid. Is that a bad idea?

    Any cool suggestions for bouquets? Types of flowers, cool color schemes of flowers, nontraditional ways of doing it...anything!

      Your idea isn't a bad one, but even a few orchids tied with ribbon would be lovely. Before I decided on the bouquet above, I was going to have a gerbera daisy bouquet. My bridesmaids will carry three ribbon-tied gerbera daisies and it wil look perfectly lovely.

      Hyacinth and yellow tulips are pretty. And the Hyacinth smells so good! This is perfect for a spring wedding. I'm not sure when you are getting married. But the great thing is hyacinth and tulips are fairly cheap at the florist or you can grow them in a pot and do your own bouquet!
      Besides... Calla Lillys are more often used in funeral arrangements than weddings and I kinda still associate them with funerals.

      personally i think the bouquet toss is one of the most fun parts of the wedding reception for all the unmarried girls to get together and have a bit of friendly fun. i would be very disappointed if i went to one and they didnt have the bouquet-toss. my goal is to catch a bouquet before my wedding in 2012!! i also cant think of anything that is a good substitute. also, does the bride agree with you that its boring? i will definitely be doing it at my wedding, and if people think its dull they dont have to participate!

      gerbras daisies do not come in a true purple. you can get them in a lavendar or pink/purple shade but if you are looking for true purple, you will not be able to find true purple gerbras daisies unless you can find a hybrid somewhere or use silk.

      i would opt for using calla lilies which come in black, red and purple or a purple calla with true red roses handtied with black and white ribbon.

    Ten Points for best floral creativity!! Need ideas for fall wedding bouquet!?
    I am getting married in November. My first thought was burnt orange calla lilies, bicolor roses, and perhaps some dahlias. The roses aren't too pricey but the other two flowers are, and now the florist I have been speaking with is throwing some gawd awful ideas out (collared bouquets... and yellow flowers - bleh!)

    I'd LOVE to use just the roses but she suggests I use a different flower (an orange lily) in the centerpeice (and to use a tall and not short one). Uhm my head is spinning.

    Bouquet ideas for a Fall Wedding?
    We are getting married October 29th and the wedding colors are dark purple, and black with silver accents. I know those colors don't necessarily go with the "fall theme" but purple is my favorite color. I've looked all over at bouquets but nothing has "popped" for me. I'm open to flowers except for roses, as neither he or I are big fans. Also, no pink. I am trying to figure out a way to incorporate fall colors and have it look nice.       I would go to my local florist and ask for a bouquet with the natural colors from fall then see if they have any bright purple flours to add a splash of color to it. The contrast of the warm chocolate, and auburn with the deep purple will pull together what you already have and the color you love

      I think that the gerbera daisies are a beautiful flower; they are also fairly affordable.
      They have some beautiful calla lilies that come in a plum color, but they are more on the expensive side. Here is a picture of them...gorgeous flowers:

      You could also try to find some deep purple tulips. Then you could pair them with the white gerbera daisies and wrap them in a brown ribbon. I think that would look nice together.

    Just wondering if anyone knew how much a crystal wedding bouquet would cost- a larger one for me the bride. that is if I made it myself.       you have orange mini calla lilies, orange chrysanthemus, and orange roses.
      on fillers you have bells of Ireland the long green that is sticking out, something similar to leather leave on the bottom and the little red dots are call hypericum.

      The dark red/burgundy looking flower/plant i don't know.

    How to execute a wedding bouquet made out of movie tickets?
    Hi All!

    I have kept almost every ticket from the movies that my fiancee and I have been to from the last 8 years and I want to create my bridal bouquet out of them for our movie theme wedding next summer.

    Does anyone have any ideas how I may execute that? Maybe what I can use as a base, and then decoupage the tickets on it?

    He proposed at the movies, we are hoping to get married at an old theater and we really want to incorporate the tickets into the wedding.

      You could buy some silk flowers. Take all the leaves off of them, use the movie tickets as the leaves around the flowers.

      Instead of having an actual bouquet (I went to a wedding where all the girls carried little umbrellas), you could make a fan out of the tickets. Or you could make a director's clapboard out of the tickets. Not sure how formal or how much of the theme you are incorporating. Instead of the flower girl dropping flowers she could drop the tickets. Instead of pew bows (if your in church) or at the end of an isle of chairs make a nice little arraignment out of the tickets.

    Nightmare Before Christmas wedding ideas?
    We are having a nightmare before christmas themed wedding! :) The color scheme is gonna be red and black..I'll be wearing a red wedding gown and he'll be wearing his Dress Blues (he's in the Marines.) Any decoration ideas? Bouquet, flowers, table decor, cake, music, etc..any ideas will help.

      Oh wow what a fun idea! It won't be 'quite' as easy with him in his marine garb since Jack Skellington wears a tux. As for ideas... it depends how pretty or nightmarish you want in to be
      For example would you like to do bouquets of dead red roses in dirt instead of water on each table?
      Or would you prefer something gorgeous... like manzanita branches, maybe painted black, strewn with fairy lights? Or a simple arrangement of blood red roses?

      It might be fun to have table overlays that have crudely stitched seams to look like Sally
      Bridesmaids' dresses could also be Sallyesque

      As for the cake, I would go with one in the shape of the movie's curly-q mountain... maybe a red velvet cake....

      In the way of music, do you mean for the ceremony or reception? As background (non-dancing) music at the reception you could play any Dany Elfman scores in addition to the NBC soundtrack

      You could also have things that seem Christmasy, but tweaked... black wreathes and so on

      Any chance of dressing up a friend's little dog like Zero to act as ring-bearer? hee hee

      I've always liked lilacs and you never see them that much with weddings. (either bouquets or centerpieces) ...It's different! Other flowers in purple, you could do lavender sprigs, purple iris's, hydrangeas.

      Hi,

      You're right - searching for "yellow wedding" isn't going to get you anywhere. The truth is, implementing your color scheme into your wedding is easy. First, choose another color or two colors to act as accent colors. Rose pink or baby blue might be nice. Then you can incorporate your colors into your wedding.

      Have your bridesmaids' dress be in a pale yellow (sometimes called butter yellow), with maybe your accent color as a ribbon or secondary color. Then talk to your florist. She can help you come up with a centerpiece that highlights the pale yellow and your complementary colors. Your bouquets can use the same flowers or at least same colors as well.

      You can also incorporate your colors in:
      1. Your wedding cake (e.g. top with matching flowers from your centerpiece)
      2. Invitations
      3. Programs (tie with ribbon of your wedding colors)
      4. Table linen - have napkins using your complementary colors probably, since your centerpiece may be mostly yellow. Consider table runners as well.
      5. Any accent pieces to your wedding dress (purse, shoes, jewelry. etc)

      When i think latin, I think spicy, sexy, warm. Try having warm colored bouquets and flowers. Use oranges, reds, and yellows. I say use orange colored lanterns the hang from the ceiling at different lengths to get the vibe going.

      Have your flowers be like red roses and orange lilies accented with yellow and white carnations. It will look beautiful and just have your centerpieces match your bouquets, not exactly but close.

    How can I work pine cones or acorns into my wedding bouquet/centerpieces?

      i have a shower game for you. Dress up the pine cone to be a bride and groom and get crafting stuff and put peeps in groups.

      bouquets - acorns would be a great touch. get some wire thick enought to stay put twist it up a pen and clue the end to the acorn, stretch it out some so it dangles or just straight up wire and or fish line and have it fall beneath the flowers or what ever your using.

      get one of those really big big pine cone or have someone make ahuge one and use that as your bouquet. that would be a unique idea no flowers just pine cone.

    Ideas for alternative to flowers for wedding bouquet?
    I am getting married in November of 2009 and I'm not really a "flower" type of girl. I'm looking for an alternative to carry down the aisle, but also don't like the idea of feathers or crystals,etc. I like funky plants and things that look out of the ordinary. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Some details: our colors are lime green, black and silver. We're getting married on Friday the 13th. We'll have a sub-theme of "luck", as in fortune cookies and good-luck charms. Other decorations will include limes, green apples, river rocks, wheat grass and other outdoorsy, nature-inspired items.

      It really, really does depend on what type of flowers you want. To ask without specifying what type of flowers, what region of the world you live in, what size and style of each item you want, and what time of year you are getting married is asking for a huge "ballpark" answer.

      If you choose chrysanthemum daisies your flowers will be cheap, if you choose orchids (and you don't live on Hawaii or some other tropical island) your flowers will be expensive. These are just a couple of examples of how flowers can be vastly different in price.

      I've made wedding flowers for an entire (tiny) wedding for under 0 before and flowers for other weddings which ran as high as ,000. So, as you can see, the variations are huge. Typical wedding flowers have run between 00 and 00 in my experience.

    I am currently planning my wedding and in the course of looking at pictures for ideas, I start to question why a bride has the flowers to begin with. Why do the bridesmaids and bride carry flowers down the aisle?

      At one time baths were not always available. There was a time if people wanted to get cleaned they would swim in a near by lake or pond. So most people had an odor to them most of the time. The flowers were carried by the bride and the bride's maids to mask the odor of the bride. Of course, times have changed but the tradition of the bouquet is still around.

      Ever used an at home microwave flower press kit? It'll definitely change your bouquet to something very different but they preserve flowers beautifully, especially their colors. You can always do the hang them upside down old school thing, but that doesn't always work well and the red usually turns almost black. If you press the flowers you can put them in a wedding album, couples scrap book or use them to create a one of a kind piece of art.
      I'm having a girl at etsy.com actually make a porcelain replica of my bouquet so I can actually have it in a vase forever and of course, there is the tried and true way... Take a picture!

    Any decor ideas for a fall wedding?
    I really would like a fall wedding with a fall-type theme! We got engaged in an apple orchard so I would like to incorporate apples somehow but not over-do it.     I just got married, and my bouquet was real (fresh). I want to try to perserve the flowers, any ideas on how to freeze dry the flowers?

      The Bouquet

      Flowers can be dried, turned into potpourri or individually pressed within the pages of a book. To properly preserve a bouquet, don’t delay, begin the drying process before leaving on your honeymoon.

      Turn the bouquet upside down and hang it in a dry, dark place for about two weeks. By that time it should be completely dried out and ready to decorate a wall or shelf.

      To make potpourri, remove fresh petals and place in a bowl out of sunlight, for about 2-3 weeks. After the petals are dry, add a drop or two of floral-scented potpourri oil.

      Pressed flowers or just the petals can be used to adorn the pages of a wedding album, placed in a picture frame or used on stationery. Cut fresh flowers close to the base and place them inside a folded piece of wax paper. Then, place it all within the pages of a heavy book. Check back in two weeks.

    I was married a year ago and while getting out the cake knife to cut our cake top with I unwrapped my bouquet I had artificial flowers but I love it and would love to display it in my home someway but have NO ideas!
