Wedding Colour Schemes

Although red is not traditionally associated with weddings, it is a popular color choice and creates a vibrant and eye catching scheme for your wedding. Take a look at these three red inspired wedding color schemes as an alternative to the traditional pink and white!

Red, Pink and Cream:

You may not normally put red and pink together, but if you choose the right shades you will avoid that horrifying clash of colors! Cherry red and candy pink sit fairly close to each other on the color wheel and as such you can also add in the shades in between to create a stunning scheme of graduated tones. I have chosen cream as a softer alternative to white, but if you want a scheme that is bright and funky by all means change it.

Use cream as your base color for table cloths and chair covers and then have everything else in red and pink. Frilly blooms like carnations, tea roses and peonies add a big splashes of color and work beautifully for a grand, extravagant scheme. If you want something a little less bold but no less vibrant go for more structural flowers such as gerbera's, poppies and anemones. Go for candy pink rather than pale pink as it works better with the red and is a beautiful soft foil for the bright red and bland cream.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Does anyone have any suggestions for wedding colour schemes?
Me and my fiancee plan on getting married either summer this year or summer next year but we're struggling on a colour scheme, my fiancee is in the army and has to wear his best dress as a mark of respect, his best dress is navy blue with a red sash, i would really like black, white and red as my colour scheme, but with my fiancee being in navy blue makes this difficult.
Can anyone help me out on a few ideas please??

    • ANSWER:
I understand that he doesn't have to wear the uniform, but i know not wearing it is a bad idea. I come from a military family and I have a friend who's getting married in the next few months who is in the military.

You're lucky that his colors are navy and red, because I definitely think you can pull off what you want and it won't clash. For example, the wedding cake: White cake, black and blue accents with red flowers scattered around it, or you can have a black and white cake with blue and red flowers around it. Don't think of white as one of your colors necessarily. Think of it more as an accent. Black, blue, and red are a beautiful color combination, and with the white and maybe use some lighter blues mixed with the navy blues that will create a more summer theme. Your bridesmaids can be red and black (very nice and they'll be able to use the dresses again that way). A solid red dress with a black ribbon around the waist. OR a black dress with a red ribbon. All up to you. Your centerpieces can be red flowers, dark and light blue flowers, either "black" roses or you can use feathers or beads, anything to get the black across. You can add white flowers to that mix and then tie a white ribbon with black or navy dots around the vase.

Simply, it can be done. I would check out the photos on theknot.com. They have amazing color combinations and will just help you out in planning! Good luck! If you like my ideas, I can be reached at anglwngs626@aim.com. I'm more than willing to help you out. I am planning my own wedding, with my colors being blue, black, and silver. So I understand difficult colors. It's one thing to visualize colors, and another to make them work in real life. Black has been very difficult, but I've made it work. And I have no doubt in my mind that your colors will work!

  2. QUESTION:
    Wedding colour schemes?
I am getting married July 08 and planning my colour scheme. My older bridesmaids (10 and 39) will be in claret (lovely red) and the younger (3 and 4) will be in ivory with a red sash. I am wanting to use Red as my main colour as I am wearing ivory and hoping to carry a delicate bouquet of red roses, the H2B will wear a red cravat with an ivory or ivory with gold detail waistcoat. I am unsure whether to have ivory or gold as my second colour?? My H2B doesn't want to wear a red rose as his button hole to match my bouquet, but he will wear a cream rose. I am sooo confused !! I want gold but there will not be alot of gold in the wedding itself (we are having civil ceromony with day & eve reception also at same hotel). Would red & ivory look nice together as my colour scheme?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

Red and Ivory look nice together - if hubby won't wear a red rose as button hole how about a red tie to match your bouquet?

I am planning a winter wedding and having a blue/silver theme!

I am getting confused about it all too!

      Stress, stress, stress eh?!

  3. QUESTION:
Wedding colour schemes with a kilt?
I really like the colour schemes of white and turquoise or white and purple, which kilts would look good with this? Or any other suggestions? He doesn't like red in a kilt so that's a no go I guess. Thank you! x
He has been previously married and wore his clans kilt then and this time he wants to be different.

    • ANSWER:
And the myths live one... If this is an American Wedding, you can use any Tartan you want. Many think you have no choice but go with your own clan tartan, but they do not consider or even know there is more tartan than clan tartan.

What about Provincial Tartan? The Spirit of Scotland Tartan in Purple with Blue Upper Checks, so it's a very beautiful purple Tartan. Just flip though a Tartan directory, and you can spot the colors you like, it's just that if you get off the beaten path you will pay more for custom milled tartan. Not to mention you can typically rent Tartan like the Spirit of Scotland if you want and save money.

There is also fancy tartan, or tartan with no affiliation. This still falls into custom mill stuff, so if you consider -60 a yard for popular tartan, and around for custom should paint that picture when you need seven to nine yards, and about another 0-500 to have the kilt made. I think what would be fun and easy here is that this fancy tartan could become your new family tartan. You can also download a tartan generator and make your own design and pay about the same, then have it milled, then send it in with a narrative and the House of Stewart will acknowledge it as your family tartan.

The part about the myth is that you do not have to be apart of any one family to be eligible to wear that tartan. If you like another family's tartan and want to wear it, no one will stop you and not many will even know the difference. There is only about 7000 classified tartans registered, and unless you pick something like McLeod, most will not even know your violating the myth.

One part of the myth that most cannot explain is why pipe bands wear one tartan, even if they are not related to the fellow who started that pipe band. Then why many members just assume that tartan for all their future wear, even outside of the pipe band. It's really basic. If you have to buy tartan, you're going to wear it, whether it means something to you or not. I guarantee you that no one comes up to you and says, wow, that is a fine McAlster Tartan! It's more like, what family do you belong, and are you Scottish. My favorite answer is (even though I do know) is that I do not know, and that I am not Scottish. That tends to confuse them, and even more when I tell them I am Piper. There must be some cosmic law that says you would have to be Scottish to want to be playing bagpipes, but they do not consider the other six Celtic tribes, or that bagpipes come in many flavors than the GHB I play all over Europe and North Africa. Most are shocked to find out it's the national instrument of Bulgaria.

Which in conclusion, it's what you want to make it, not what others want to stereotype.

  4. QUESTION:
Please help with wedding colour schemes....?

but we can;t decide on any colours.... how have other people decided on schemes for the wedding.
I liked maroon and ivory, but i felt this was more christmassy not spring/summer, and my fiance liked brown and gold.... I like the colours yellow and teal, but don't think they really go....
and my other halfs mom likes sage green!!!!
i am just so fed up with all these decisions... Please some one help!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
I agree with your FMIL. Sage green is beautiful, especially if your wedding is going to be in the spring.
You could combine it with a deep yellow (one of your colors) and gold (one of your fiance's colors). That way everyone gets a little of what they want.

  7. QUESTION:
I need help with my wedding colour scheme?
The wedding is in summer, the ceremony is indoors and the reception is outdoors and the bridesmaid dresses are going to be either a Jade or Champagne colour (haven't decided yet). Does anyone have any ideas for a colour scheme?

    • ANSWER:
Jade or champagne, you say, huh? I personally think turquoise would look good with either. Turquoise is a lovely summer wedding color and both jade and champagne are nice accent colors.
But if you're more of a think-pink kind of person, fuchsia would look just as good as turquoise would with either jade or champagne.
I'd say jade and champagne themselves make a nice duo but that's more of a spring color scheme. I also like ivory, sage green (like jade), and black as a spring color scheme but that's kinda besides the point.
      Anyway, yeah, either:
      1. Turquoise + jade
      2. Turquoise + champagne
      3. Turquoise + jade + champagne
      4. Fuchsia + jade
      5. Fuchsia + champagne
      6. Fuchsia + jade + champage
All would be lovely! Oh, and btw, silver would be a nice accent color to the turquoise and champagne! :)

  8. QUESTION:
Need your help ladies! Wedding colour schemes?
Hi, I am getting married at Himley Hall in the green room.
    Here is a photo... http://www.dudley.gov.uk/leisure-and-culture/parks-and-open-spaces/himley-hall/weddings
I need to find a colour for bridesmaid dresses and flowers that I would like to continue through the whole day, i.e. on to the decorations at the wedding breakfast. Does anyone have ideas of what colours would go nice with that shade of green? I was thinking gold but want something less classic.

    • ANSWER:
silver will go excellent with the shade of green the hall is of...

      grey would also do ..

  9. QUESTION:
What are some wedding color schemes that are both beautiful and uncommon/unusual?
I really like the idea of gray and orange; however, the fiance is not too thrilled by it. I really want a color scheme that is different, that is bold and stylish, but not garish or horrid. Any suggestions? Or comments/ideas about the gray-orange combo? Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
My wedding "colors" are black and white polka dots! Instead of choosing a third color...I chose a pattern. Its actually all coming together and looking great! I chose black and white to make it easy to find everything (decoration wise), but the polka dots make it FUN! My bridesmaids have black dresses with white polka dots, and the cake is white with black polka dots! Consider a print instead of a color! The wedding is in 2 weeks Id be more than happy to send you some pics afterward if youd like?!

  10. QUESTION:
Where can I find web sites that describe/show wedding color schemes?
I'm having a wedding October 21, 2006 in a nature preserve with a lovely house (in case it rains), a lake, and lots of beautiful scenery. In PA it will be peak color at that time.

So, I'm struggling with color schemes for that time period... but I don't know where I can find suggestions. If someone can guide me to a website or something? I'm going to try to coordinate (at least attempt it) from bridesmaid dresses, to centerpieces, to invitations... etc.

    • ANSWER:
you can always do fall colors (lead with red but also oranges, yellows, browns, etc). But with fall in PA, there may already be enough of that. Sounds like you'll have a lot of natural color as is. You could do very simple colors to compliment the surroundings - solid reds, blacks or browns for BM dresses with one or two tone flowers.
ex. classic red dresses with mango calla lillies as flowers. or black dresses with deep red flowers - depends on how casual or formal your wedding is.
colors i would avoid - pinks, purples, pastels. would clash with fall.
what color do you like? if you can't decide, ask the coordinator at the location some popular colors or ones they like for the setting...

  11. QUESTION:
What do you think of dark red, black and lilac for a wedding colour scheme?
We were thinking red chiffon bridesmaids dresses with black sashes and black heels but I would like to incorporate some lilac throughout the ceremony and reception. Any suggestions?

  12. QUESTION:
What do you think of this wedding colour scheme?
We are having a summer wedding. I have chosen white, pink and pink butterflies as a scheme. I am having hot pink/fushia for my bridesmaids and flowers. My table flowers are going in glass vases filled with pink glass nuggets and filled with white roses. My place cards and table plan will be light pinks/white with small pink butterflies adorning the edge etc. Whatcha think peeps?

    • ANSWER:
I hope you are a young bride, its a very young scheme. If you are, its a wedding and sweet romantic colors are fine. The fuchsia might be too startling with the romantic pastels so aim for more of the deeper pinks or rose colors for the bridesmaids dresses with the maid and matron in darker, or lighter tones of rose. And have the men wear classic black and white, its will make them look sophisticated and not uncomfortable in pink cummerbunds and ties. Lots of silver and crystal on the tables will look cool and pretty too.
Maybe silver ribbons with pink butterflies for the napkin rings?

  13. QUESTION:
Has anyone got any ideas for colour-schemes for my upcoming wedding?
I've just booked my wedding, it's in 10 weeks time!!! i need to decide on a colour scheme for all the bridal outfits including the groom etc, want something reflecting the summer but don't know where to start - please help

    • ANSWER:
lime green or yellow or peach

      Best wishes!

  14. QUESTION:
What was/will be your wedding colour scheme?
And how much did you/will you spend on centrepieces. I'm doing a bit of research. Would love to hear how you are doing things/how you did things. I will give 10 points to someone but I'm interested to hear as many as possible first.
This is great. I really like reading your ideas. Keep them coming.

    • ANSWER:
      - My colors are blue (my favorite color), orange (my fiance's favorite color), and white. I thought that since this is my fiance's and my wedding that I would have it so it kind of represents us in a way. I plan on having my bridesmaids in blue and the groomsmen in orange.

      - I haven't decided on the flowers yet. So far the ideas I have is having the bridesmaids have orange flowers, the groomsmen have blue boutonnieres. Or I somehow incorporate all 3 colors and find other types of flowers that goes really well with them.

      - I haven't spent anything on my centerpieces yet but I do plan on going to my local arts and crafts stores so I can make my own. I'm trying to choose between having a candle garden with 3 candles or with 2 candles and a small vase with a flower. Or a tall vase with flowers. I haven't decided yet. I like the centerpieces that are either tall or short mainly because that way your guests can easily see and talk to each other from accross the table instead of leaning to the side to look around the center piece.

-I'm not going to have the traditional cake. Instead I plan on having cupcakes in 3 different flavors: Chocolate (my favorite), red velvet (my fiance's favorite), and white all with butter cream frosting. I'm going to have the cup cakes on 3 differerent stands. The middle stand will hold the vanilla cupcakes with a small tiered cake on the top with the wedding cake topper. The one side will have chocolate with another tiered cake on the top but that tier will be decorated with things that represent me and what I like. The other stand will have the red velvet and also a small tiered cake that is decorated with things that represent my fiance and what he likes. And for the wedding cake topper I want it to represent both my fiance and I and the one thing we do love to do together so I found a cake topper with the bride and groom with a motorcycle.

What do you think of grey, yellow and white for wedding colors?
I am in the beginning stage of planning my wedding. Please share any ideas on centerpieces, decor, or invitations. ThanksGrey is not a definite 'no'. Look at what 90% of the men wore to the royal wedding - all the shades of grey, because it's less harsh than black, and because it was a daytime wedding. This combination is phenomenal, but the key to making it work is if you keep it towards a pale, soft dove grey. Grey is a fantastic neutral that's unexpected, and it goes exceptionally well with pale yellow. What you want to avoid is a dark...

      - For the favors I plan on either using candy or brownie pops. The brownie pops I would make myself and I would decorate half of them to look like the bride and the other half to look like the groom. Or if I choose candy I'm debating on just having a candy table where people can choose their own candy and put them in a candy box that I decorate or put the candy in the a decorated baggie/box and set them at the table.

      - At the ceremony instead of having the ceremonial candles I plan on using sand. I'm going to find some of the vases for it that I can close off and keep. And of course I will use blue sand and orange sand. I like the sand idea better than candles because for one I think it does look better and you can use the sand filled vases as decoration around your house.

      - For the guest book I do plan on using the picture frame version of the guest book. This way I can have it hung up in the house where I can always see it instead of having it sit in a shelf collecting dust and never looked at. At the ceremony I'll put in my fiance's and my favorite engagement photo and after getting pictures of the wedding I'll switch it to our favorite wedding photo.

  15. QUESTION:
What flowers (or colors of flowers) would look nice at a wedding with these colors schemes?
    Options for Possible Wedding Colors:
    1. Lots of different shades of Blue, White?

    2. Turquoise, Aqua, Coral, White, Tan (Beach)?

    3. Blue, Pink, Orange, Yellow, White (Sunset)?

    Thanks for the help!
    THE QUESTION IS:

What TYPE or COLOR of FLOWERS should I use with all of these different color schemes???

    • ANSWER:
      1) Choose several of the following: blue delphinium, white larkspur, white lilies, white daisies, white asters, blue iris, white alstromeria, blue Belladonna, white statice

      2) Choose several of the following: Peach gerberas, pastel snapdragons, blue carnations, pastel alstromeria, and some of the white flowers mentioned above

      3) Choose several of the following: Pink, orange and yellow alstromeria, orange and yellow lilies, orange gladioli, orange and pink gerberas, yellow larkspur. (I would leave the blue out of the sunset colors.)

To see what these flowers look like you can go to: http://www.virtualflorist.com and type in the name of the flower to see it in a bouquet with other flowers. I had blue delphinium, pink alstromeria and a white star shaped flower that I can't remember the name of in my bouquet. I love alstromeria (alternate spelling alstroemeria). It comes in many different colors, is not very expensive and the blooms last a long time.

      Good luck!

  16. QUESTION:

  19. QUESTION:
Two different colour schemes, one wedding?
Would it be OK to to for burgundy & ivory for our wedding then ivory and blue for our reception to match the venue's colours, or not? Our chosen wedding venue is a garden so I don't think blue flowers would compliment the yellows and reds in the flowers but I don't want a rainbow bouquet Please help! Thanks
Messykatt: That was my original concern. Really don't want my bridesmaids looking like the Union Jack!
Messykatt: I suggested lilac earlier to my fiance, but he won't stop joking about me putting everyone to sleep with my decision to incorporate lavender. I love it! I think it smells nice and it's pretty and dainty. I'm now thinking off just keeping to the red and white, there is not a lot of "blue" at the reception venue!

    • ANSWER:
I think it's actually a good idea to do this. The only possible issue I can come up with is the bridesmaids dresses, but if you can figure that one out, you're good to go.

Edit: LOL! What if you incorporated green into each scheme? Each of your main colors looks awesome with green, like a sage color or a lighter sage (can't remember what that's called). I love burgundy and green together, and obviously it goes well with the garden theme.

  20. QUESTION:
Do my wedding invitations have to be the exact same colors of my wedding scheme?
My wedding colors are black, white and dark red. The invitations that I bought are ivory with black. I loved them and had to have them. Do you think it will be ok that they aren't exactly as my wedding color scheme?

    • ANSWER:
It's your wedding and you can do exactly what you want. Personally I doubt that anyone will notice or care.

  21. QUESTION:
Opinions wanted on wedding color schemes?
So I have several options I am thinking about:

    1. gray, pale pink, pale yellow

    2. gray, yellow, turquoise

    3. gray, pink, turquoise

    4. turquoise, pink, and yellow

    What do you think?

    • ANSWER:
Grey is actually a "trendy" colour right now, at least in design. Especially decor design. That said, maybe you just really like the colour grey. We each have our own thing. :)

Turquoise is also really hot right now. It's a colour that I like as well.

In the end, colour is something that most guests pay little attention to or remember.

Just chose a colour theme that you like and one that is easy to work with. Remember that some colours are harder to match than others.

I personally like 3 and 4, just due to the visual effect. I also am a child of the 80s and am LOVING the 80s comeback, so having turquoise in a wedding would be so, so, cool. I'm more of the fun non-traditional type. :)

In the end, up to you.

Why not get some colour swatches and match them up? You should be able to see what looks best to you. Also consider other colours as well. For example, using black and white with turquoise as an accent colour.

      Good luck!

  22. QUESTION:
Ideas for a new years eve wedding and possible color schemes?
My fiance and I are planning on having a new years eve wedding, and have the reception go into the new year complete with fireworks and a party! What would be some good ideas for our wedding?

    • ANSWER:
That sounds like a really fun idea. Make it elegant by using colours like black, silver and white. Provide party favors to your guests to help you ring in the new year. I would pretty much think of new years parties you have been to and incorporate those ideas and then add a wedding touch to them.

I am getting married next August, and the church where I am getting married had red carpet, what would be some great color schemes for my wedding

    • ANSWER:
My church had a red carpet as well. Don't worry about it I barely notice that in pictures. I had like a periwinkle color for the girls dresses and shades of purple and yellow for the flowers it looked really good, even with the red carpet.

  24. QUESTION:
    Wedding color schemes?
I'm trying to think of how to color scheme a wedding. The couple wants both of their favorite colors incorporated; the bride's being purple, and the groom's being red. They have also said that they want the traditional white as well. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
I would go for white and one of the two colors as major hues, with the other as an accent:
      for Example:

White and Lavender throughout with a few tiny accents of red

      Or

White and Red throughout with a few small accents of Lavender

I'm having a white dress, do i go for a blue tiara, blue in the flowers, blue waistcoats’ for the men, blue rose petal confetti etc etc.. I just can't visualise where to use the colours within the wedding without it looking OTT and it looking a bit silly...

Any tips or comments on how you used your colour scheme would be great!! x
Just to add the dress is white with silver detail/beading...

This is the only thing that has been brought at the moment..!

Cheers for the comments so far! x

    • ANSWER:
I think the silver should be used for the men's cumberbunds or vests and neckties. It is very classy. You may be able to find these in a (subtly) patterned (almost embossed like) blue & silver design-check your local tuxedo rental store.

If your dress has silver, then your tiara should be silver, but the gemstones in it could be blue. Also, your garter could match with silver elastic instead of the traditional lace.

Pocketfold Wedding Invitations – All Essential Details

Wedding invitations are very important tools to make a wedding a success. Today we get a lot of party invitations daily. Hence, your wedding invitation may go unnoticed if they are not unique. The invitation must have all details of the wedding like the type of wedding, theme of the wedding, location, time and date of the wedding etc. all these information needed to be presented in style. The best type of invitation to meet all above requirements is pocketfold wedding invitations.

Everyone is too busy these days. They neither have the patience nor time to read long messages in your...

If you are getting married on a beach, I would assume there are some traditional items you won't be needing. But for a reception, you could use silver platters (even the fake plastic ones from partysupermarket would work) and goblets with white pearly plates and blue napkins. Use clear plasticware so you don't have too much color going on.

I would keep the blue out of the flowers because there aren't that many varieties of flowers that are naturally blue and it may be hard to find. Use white roses or flowers and use blue satin ribbon for the bouquet streamers.

You could have your invitations or announcements printed on a silvery paper with blue print.

Congrats to you. Enjoy and take lots of pictures & video! You cannot ever go back and do it again exactly the same way.

  28. QUESTION:
    Wedding colour scheme for winter?
What do you think about this colour scheme for a wedding in October? Cream for wedding dress, latte colour for bridesmaids, and chocolate brown for men's suits. THese would also be the colours for the reception decorations. Also what flowers shouls I have with this colour scheme? I was thinking roses, cream for me, what colour for bridesmaids?
Oops, oh yes, originally thought it was going to be in December which is why I have a winter wedding stuck in my head!
I am aware that brown suits does sound very seventies, however I am not going for a look like this: http://www.zootsuitstore.com/Shopping/assets/thumbnails/stacysuit7013sm.jpg,

    But more like this: http://www.savviformalwear.com/images/gallery/gallery/full/choc-infin-big.jpg

    which looks great.

    • ANSWER:
When I was married in the early 70's, my dress was Cream, and the men's suits were Latte, with chocolate Brown trim !!!
My bridesmaids were the same dress in tones of green and rust. My advice to you is: You should have your wedding in any color scheme that is pleasing to you, so when you settle on a final choice, Go for it!!

If you decide to go with Creme and Browns, remember these are Neutral-or background colors, so you will need something else to give life to the visual experience.
Your flowers can be creme, yet make the bridesmaids full of color-meaning one strong color for all of them or mixed colors; the decorations trimming out the reception should echo the colors of your girls flowers, and add alot of green leafy trim with the decorations, so it won't look drab.

You can take a length of fabric, the same color as the guys suits, and the girls dressed with you when you go to the florist and set the different selections on them, then...this is important...walk across the room and look at them from a distance. Up close most anything will look good if the florist does good work, yet by stepping back you can see if the flowers blend in to the latte dress behind them, or if they bring it to life. It's an old interior decorating trick.

      Congrads, and much luck,
      The Garden Lady

  29. QUESTION:
Wedding color schemes...which do you like better?
So I'm really torn between these two color schemes for my bridesmaid dresses. I have my organic side, and my bold side and I can't decide! Which do you like better?

Theres: a deep apple red with chocolate brown sashes/details-I would have more reds/fall colors
    OR
A light celadon green with soft latte brown sashes-I would have more greens and whites

    Which sounds prettier to you?

Keep in mind that it's going to be an outdoor fall wedding and the color schemes of the bridesmaid dresses will translate throughout the whole wedding.
Right now we're thinking mid October-around the 17th

    • ANSWER:
Can I switch it up a bit? Deep Apple Red with the Latte trim would be so much better. Then you can add in some of the fall golds, reds, oranges, etc. and it would be much more striking. Just my opinion.....

  30. QUESTION:
Do you think Ivory & turquoise are a good wedding colour scheme?
    The weddings in June
and it is by the sea!

    • ANSWER:
I think it sounds gorgeous! You might want to add a couple of accents of another color. Maybe it sounds unusual, but I think red would be nice! I sometimes see red stones with turquoise in jewelry, that's what made me think of it. I always think it's pretty. I don't mean you should use a ton of it, but a bit would be nice. Like maybe if the flowers on your table are all ivory, you could put a few red roses in too. Red roses symbolize love ... And in Indian and Chinese cultures, red is considered a lucky color and is often used in weddings, so that's kind of cool too!

  31. QUESTION:
Completely rethinking my wedding color schemes??? Help!!?
Ok my current color scheme is navy blue, aqua blue and white. My bridesmaid's dresses will be navy blue and some of them will have an aqua blue sash or bow around the waist. All of my centerpieces will be primarily white with a little bit of blue incorporated. And all my invitations and programs will be navy blue.

But now I am starting to rethink everything!! I chose blue because it's my favorite color and I am just naturally very drawn to any shade of blue. But I feel like this color scheme is kind of wintry and my wedding will be in the summer! I am thinking about doing jewel tones... something bright and sunny and bold for the flowers!! But something a little more subdued for the bridesmaid's dresses... a more pale color, nothing dark!

What do you think? What are some suggestions you have about color schemes?? I don't want color to be EVERYWHERE, but I want something more summery. What should I do???

    • ANSWER:
Keep the color scheme, but pop it with one warm, bright color. For example, do the bridesmaid flowers in orange. Other options would be pink or yellow.

      orange:

      pink:

      yellow:
      http://www.theweddingplanningaudiocast.com/Navy-yellow-SMP375x500.jpg

If you want to keep the colors cool and really different, then go with light green.
      http://creditcrunchbride.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/green-bridal-bouquet-pictures-6.jpg

Either way, blue flowers are hard to find and may not show on a navy blue background. So picking one more color will be helpful, and keep it summery at the same time.

  32. QUESTION:
Is this wedding colour scheme 'tacky'?
My fiances parents don't like me very much as i'm a 'lower class' to them and pretty much criticise everything I do, they have already dashed my hope of getting married in a catholic church by refusing to come if we did, but while me and my partner have agreed on a colour scheme I over heard his mum saying on the phone 'you can tell it'll be that commoners wedding just a shame I have to watch my son go through with it' and she keeps saying to me about anything I say i'm having that it's 'tacky' or just pulls a funny face.

I want to have the colour scheme as Red, gold and ivory. my dress is a basque with a full skirt in a fabric that's ivory with gold embroidery through it and the bridesmaid dresses red, my partner, dad and best man/ushers will wear black suits with cravats the same colour as the bridesmaids dresses.

does this sound tacky to you? me and my boyfriend both like them colours and I could se how it could be tacky if we overdone it on the gold but I think we're making it quite subtle. At the hotel reception it will also be decorated in these colours.
getting married on christmas eve so yes it's meant to be christmassy.

    • ANSWER:
your future MIL has already had too much say in this wedding
she dashed your hopes of getting married in a catholic church??
sorry, she just wouldn't have come had it been our wedding

so she had victory over that
      now its the color scheme
when are you going to stop letting her have this affect on you?
if it wasn't the colours it would be the flowers, and if not the flowers the cake
she is loosing her little boy and being a spiteful petty woman over it

i'm sorry, but if i were you
      i wold rearrange the wedding
the wedding you and your fiance want
i would announce it like a big excited surprise, like its the best thing ever and show how happy you are
you are hopefully only having one wedding day
you are setting a president as to how much say this woman has over your life
nip it in the bud, show her you are woman enough for her boy, she should be proud of having an assertive DIL not derive pleasure from railroading her at every turn, even on her wedding day

keep your colours, its what you chose

  33. QUESTION:
cadburys purple, light grey and ivory for wedding colour scheme?
I had always had my colour scheme in mind since we got enaged, the groomsmen would wear a light grey (silver ish) suit with purple cravats, the bridesmaids cadburys purple dresses and me in a traditional white wedding dress.

The suits and bridesmaid dresses I were thinking of are these

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150483471050&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Only problem is I have now got my dress and it is ivory (not what I was expecting to go for). I am thinking to tie it all in the groomsmen will need to wear the grey suits, with ivory waistcoats and purple cravats. But I am concerend about the ivory and grey together.

What do you think will the colours go? Has anyone done it beofre and do you have any photos? any advice?

What colours should we use for our wedding bouquets?
Bridesmaids will be wearing lilac, baby pink, lime green and lemon yellow and I will be in a while wedding dress. Wedding colour scheme is black/white damask with different colour accents (same colours as bridesmaid dresses). What colours do you think would go nicely for the wedding bouquets? I have no clue!

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Yay to you for using colours like that! We used lilac, pink, yellow, and light teal. The MOH and bridesmaids wore printed dresses, and their bouquets were a smaller version of mine.
They were European handtied bouquets, with a mixture of flowers using all the colours - carnations, mums, alstromeria, pink stargazer lillies, etc. Check with your florist to see what's available where you are, and at the month of the wedding.

What colors will go with orange to make a nice wedding color scheme?
My friend is getting married (not soon, in a year!).
Right now shes just engaged but she is starting to think about what she'd like for her wedding. She loves tiger lillies, and plans to spend alot of the budget having those as the flowers. With that in mind I suggested orange bridesmaids dresses, which was another idea she loved.
She is looking for a simple color scheme with minimal colors. So far she is thinking Orange, White, and Yellow. I wonder what you can come up with?

Yeah, the bride in white among the orange of the bridesmaids for the creamsicle wedding. That's a good one, I'm still laughing about it.

Spring Wedding Color Schemes for Orange?
Hi! I plan on having a wedding in May and really love orange lilies. So, I'm thinking of having the orange as the primary color. Are there any other colors that would go well with orange for a spring wedding? I'm trying to figure out what would be a good bridesmaid dress color other than orange...
One of my bridesmaids has bright red hair so an orange dress wouldn't complement her well :)

I would choose sage. That would be a dramatic presentation along the color wheel. (the red head maid would also look beautiful in lime, olive, or sage. I truly believe olive would look the best on the red head....)

You can easily do red, girl! I like the thought of cranberry red and maybe silver...it's end of Feb/March so red would be devine. I also like the accent of jade greens =) Green is very Marchish...red is very Februaryish...take your pick. It's YOUR wedding, dear. Have leopard print everywhere if you want!

  45. QUESTION:
    Wedding colour scheme?
Me and fiance are getting married next july! Need help with colour scheme! any suggestions? x

    • ANSWER:
congratulations! colour is a totally personal choice but for july perhaps not some of the more 'wintry' shades like deep reds or Burgundy's.i got married in august (over 27 years ago!) and my favourite colour is yellow, however ,this is a very hard colour to wear so my bridesmaids had dresses made of a beautiful antique gold colour and the pageboys waistcoat was made of this too. it looked really stunning and set off my bouquet which had yellows and golds in it.
im sure whatever you choose you will look beautiful. i wish you love and happiness and hope your wedding day is as beautiful as mine was. xxx

  46. QUESTION:
Opinions on my wedding colour scheme please :) ?
Hi there, i'm getting married in April next year, so hopefully a nice spring wedding.
My colour choices so far are

    Sage green bridesmaids dresses
Ivory with a sage green band round the middle flower girl dresses
Ivory bridal dress with a toffee band round the middle
    Brown Grooms suit etc

I was thinking of having bright spring flowers with this though.. such as pink tullips, yellow and white daffodils mixed in with daisies etc..

Is it a bit too much or will that be ok ? I love the green, ivory and brown but i'd like others opinions and do you think having bright coloured flowers will be ok ?? and what about dark brown suits, do you think they will go with pale green bridesmaids dresses??

    Many thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
My sister did the same thing except the brown suites. I personally like black suits better but if you like the brown, then go with that you like!

Here are some pictures from my sisters wedding, I hope they show up because they are from my private MySpace account.

I hope that gives you somewhat of an idea with the pink flowers and sage dresses. I LOVED the look together! She also went with a lot of Ivory.

  47. QUESTION:
stuck on a wedding colour scheme :( ?
Im unsure on a colour scheme and its quite frustrating. Bridesmaid dresses are aqua... I just dont know what colours to incorporate into the reception. any ideas would be great. thank u

    • ANSWER:
Go to a paint department. Find the aqua color you have on the charts.
Paint stores have color schemes pre-selected. They will have a dominant
color, secondary color and a third accent color. Also, many paint stores
also have decorators on staff to help you through the ins and outs.

It's just way easier than trying to do it with fabrics.

    Any ideas for colour schemes?
I am having trouble trying to choose the colour scheme for my Wedding. I really like "Red" colours, but i don't know if its what i really want. Anyone give me an idea of a nice colour or how i could decide!

    • ANSWER:
You know what? I have 2 cousins getting married soon (not to each other, hehe) and they are both having red-ish colours at their weddings. I work for wedding photographers, and have seen some weddings with really nice colour choices that aren't so obvious. One of the ones that stands out for me was one where the "colour" was a pale olive green. Beautiful! Think outside the box!
