Wedding Hair Accessories

Denoting status was one of the uses of jewelry earlier. Both men and women would wear jewelry to show status and wealth in society. Few people still practice that by wearing expensive jewelry prepared from precious stones and metals but they can be counted on fingertips. People today wear jewelry for personal adornment instead of any show off activity. Gemstones or precious metals are not used in preparing such jewelries.

Let us look into some variety of ornaments that are more in demand today before we go looking for wedding jewelry:

•Art jewelry is the jewelry, which is appreciated more for its designs and creativity than for material used.

•Costume jewelry is beautifully produced too. However, they are mass produced from lower value material and are less costly.

•Wrap jewelry, also known as wire sculpture jewelry, is produced from any form of base metal wire with rock tumbled stones to precious metals and precious gemstones.

I do not think there is a woman today who feel dressed without some kind of jewelry. However, their importance takes up a special magnitude when it comes to a girl’s wedding. Selecting the wedding jewelry is no mean task. It not only has to look good on the wearer, but has also to complement the wedding gown, not overshadow it. Overall, the wearer must look beautiful, not a show off.

Bridal jewelry is not only wedding jewelry as the list always remains long including all family members attending wedding ceremony. This discussion is not confined to mere bridesmaids though they need special treatment through their attire and accessories keeping them splendid. No other family member including your two-year-old niece or eighty-four year old grandmother can be sidelined hence they need suitable jewelries.

Presence of hundreds of online jewelry shops has made it easier to select fitting and suitable wedding jewelry nowadays. You must focus at the choice of wearer while selecting jewelries. It indicates how careful you are for one. It would also suite a person better. They can be easily personalized for which you must pay additional amount. This way they become keepsake for you. Few online shops offer their clients to personalize jewelries without paying additional fee but this isn’t a condition for everybody. Beauty and suitability of specific jewelry matters the most.

Charm bracelet designed from multicolored crystals placed in dazzling pattern would be first choice of a flower girl. She won’t appreciate fresh water pearl pendant jewelry set as grown up women prefer this category. Keep likes and dislikes of a person in mind by visualizing how she would look into that jewelry before making a choice of wedding jewelry. Keep bride’s dress in mind by visualizing for best conclusion of jewelry to be bought.

There are plenty of necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets and brooches to choose from. However, hairpins have a special place in the wedding jewelry. They add dazzle and excitement to your wedding hairstyle and what is more, you can add as many as you want. Of all the wedding hair accessories, the hairpins are the most versatile. Today they even come in beautiful sculpted shape although the classic designs are equally in demand.

Apart from hairpins, there are few other types of wedding hair accessories. Combs, headbands and tiaras are some of the wedding jewelry that can make an impact on the overall appearance of the bride. Moreover, while the tiaras and combs cost an earth, they are of little use later on. Headbands made of precious or semi precious stones too cannot be used that much On the other hand, you can use your pins now and then when you are dressing for a formal occasion. Therefore, if you are those practical types you will opt for hairpins and buy as many as you wish. You can always give them away to your near and dear ones as keepsake.

However, wedding is not the time to be practical. It is time you be a little romantic and a little extravagant. Therefore, let your imagination fly while you are choosing the wedding jewelry and the wedding hair accessories. Remember every one of your wedding party. Do not forget the men of your family either. They too have started using jewelry. Buy something for them too.

  5. QUESTION:
    Wedding hair accessories?
I have decided roughly how I want my hair for my wedding but have no idea what accessories would look best.

It will be part pinned up and the rest down and wavy, a lttle like these pictures.

    http://weddings.theknot.com/odb/themes/realweddings/detailview.aspx?id=1400&type=3&Wedding_Details=Hair&pageIndex=6

As I am not having my hair all up, I think a tiara would dig in and be uncomfortable as there is nothing to attach it to and it would have to just go round my head. (Had to do this as a bridesmaid a few years ago and ended up with dents in my head by the end of the day from the band!)

I am not having a veil so that's not an issue. What could I put in my hair with this style that will look good and where would it go in he style? If you have any pictures, even better as all the ones I have found show the hairstyle unaccessorised.
Don't know if it makes any difference but I have blonde hair and the accent colour for the wedding is dark green.
Sorry, try these pics, hopefully they won't need a password

    • ANSWER:
I would take small rhinestones and attach them directly to the part of your hair pulled back. Then you could place the rhinestones as if they were cascading down your hair.

You could also take and weave baby ribbon in the colors of your wedding and let them flow free.

Something simple and light is the way to go....

  6. QUESTION:
Wedding hair accessories... What is better Hair Pin or Hair Coil (twists)?
I'm getting married in a month. My hair is long, it will be curly and in a half do. I would like to add hair accessories (pearl flowers), but I'm not sure what would be better, hair pins or hair coils. I've never seen the hair coils until I started looking for hair accessories. Any advice would be greatly appreciated... thank you! :)
Thank you so much sarahryan! I really appreciate your advice! I'm having a stylist do my hair so I think I will get the coils.

    • ANSWER:
It depends. If you are doing your hair yourself I recommend hair pins as coils can be rather difficult to put in properly - you can always buy one or two and see if you can manage it and how it looks. I personally love the coils, they're just so neat. They're really very beautiful when they're done properly. However both can look lovely so go with the design you like the most. You can always have a mix. One is not necessarily better than the other - as long as they are put in properly it won't make much difference. The only thing is that with pins sometimes they meet and look a bit messy - a problem you do not have with coils unless you are putting them very close together.

  7. QUESTION:
hair accessories for a wedding guest?
I'm going to an evening wedding next month and my husband is a grooms man. I have a pretty little red cocktail dress and I love hair accessories, mainly ones with bits of feathers or with a small birdcage veil. How much of an accessory can I wear for the wedding without overdoing it. The bride is someone I don't know well but went to highschool with the groom and he was in our wedding. They are both funloving people. I just was thinking of a small hairpiece that is black with a bit of netting over the eyes. Is this appropriate?

    • ANSWER:
I would skip any kind of veil if you are a guest at a wedding. Wear something simple and pretty in your hair, but not overwhelming.

  8. QUESTION:
    Wedding Hair Accessories...?
I was told over the phone by my hair dresser to go and get white clips for my hair style for my wedding day...I asked her if she meant butterfly clips & she said yes but the larger clip style? Anyone have any ideas of what she means or pictures?
After reading some answers...I know to do a trial run and will be doing that...also, the white clips are part of the hair design, I am well aware that most stylists use pins, this is a professional salon...she had a book with the style in it but could not find it anywere (thinks someone must have taken with them when then left)...

    • ANSWER:
If you don't know what she needs, why don't you suggest that she buy the ones she needs and you will reimburse her for them? That way she will definitely have what she needs.

  10. QUESTION:
I'm having a turquoise and chocolate wedding, can anyone help with hair accessories?
We're going to be carrying turquoise and chocolate calla lily arrangements, and want to have pin up style hair with flowers on the side. Do we need to keep the Calla Lily motif, of could we deviate from that and have a bigger, more tropical looking flower?
And where is a good place to find something like this? I'm having trouble finding good hair pieces.

    • ANSWER:
Now is a good time to find stuff like that, since prom is right around the corner - places like Claire's or The Icing will carry a lot of hair accessories. Luckily, the flower pins/clips are in right now, so hopefully you can find a good selection.

I think it would look nice if you could find a white calla lily clip to pair with the turquoise and chocolate flowers. However, if you can't find a calla lily clip that you like, I think it would be okay to go with a different flower - like a rose.
Here are a few that I was able to find. I actually found a flower clip at Ami Clubwear - not the place you would think to find something like that, but they did have a pretty big selection. If you plan to do your hair in pin up style, try pinupgirlclothing.com:

  12. QUESTION:
need hair and accessories ideals for my son for a wedding?
My son is transgendered and we are going to a wedding out of state. This will be her first time fully dressed. Her hair is below her shoulders, and I would love any and all ideals for her hair and all accessories her ears are both double pierced, and anything that I would need to get for her.to make this an amazing wedding . we will be gone 2 days also if you have ideals for any or all of our trip please let me know. I'm so new at this and don't want to let her down. Thanks Stephanie

    • ANSWER:
Kudos to you for supporting her, really. I think that although this is a special occasion, this certainly won't be the last time she'll have to dress up or impress people, so my suggestion would be to offer something more permanent.

When I turned 13, my grandmother took me to a fancy salon for a day to learn about makeup from the makeup artists there. The rule in my family was at 13 you can wear makeup, so it was a big deal to go with her and learn all about makeup tips, as well as accessorizing, color schemes, hairstyles, etc.

Maybe you should do something like that for her and go with her, kind of a mother-daughter thing? I think it would go even further to show her that she has your full support, plus she could get tips from experts that would last a lifetime. My grandmother just passed away, and that day is one of my best memories of her.

I was thinking maybe pin it first with a kirby grib and then slide a crystal comb under the kirby? I'm just not sure if thats the right accessorie?

  29. QUESTION:
Is it okay to wear plastic hair accessories to a semi-formal event?
I have thick hair and the only way I can wear it up is with a special super grip plastic clip I have. It's black, the same color as my hair, so it blends in pretty well, but I'm worried it will look cheap or tacky. I was thinking of getting some jeweled pins to clip up my hair in the front, to draw attention away from the black plastic clip. Would that work?

The only other option I have is to go to a salon and have them use 75 pins and a ton of hair spray like I did at my wedding, but I don't really want to spend the money and time since this event isn't THAT formal, just a gala dinner. Any suggestions?
The clip works like those big claw clips---it's fairly large. I know there are lots of jeweled barrettes and clips, but those aren't strong enough to hold my hair UP, which is what I want to do.

  34. QUESTION:
I dont know how to have my hair for my sisters wedding i have thick long brown hair.?
My sisters wedding is in a few weeks and im going to be a bridesmaid she wants me to wear it half up and half down with curls. What kind of accessories should i put in my hair?

    • ANSWER:
Since you have thick, long hair, why don't you either flat-twist the front (and adorn with bows, ribbons or barrettes in complementary colors for her wedding, of course) and wear the length with a little curl [bump] at the bottom? Or, you could wear it neatly braided in a french braid with a simple ribbon to secure it at the bottom.

I guess it all just depends on your personal style and what you think works best for your face type.

Upswept hair always looks really nice, and classy, but if you have really thick hair, a securing a french roll, or twist, could be difficult - but those are also styles I'd recommend. If you don't think you'd be too hot wearing part of your hair loose, why not sweep some of it on top of your head and secure it there with bobby pins, and wear some loose and curly at the nape of your neck? Those are always really pretty styles too. =)

Cheers, and good luck. I am confident that you will find something attractive for your sister's big day.

  35. QUESTION:

  36. QUESTION:
What accessories for a wedding this weekend?
I have a black strapless dress that falls just below the knee. I'm planning on wearing my hair half up. Opinions???

    • ANSWER:
A silver necklace that hangs a bit down the front of the dress and some stud earrings or small dangling earrings and a silver ring. Or, long dangling earring and a bracelet and maybe a toe ring. I'd stick with silver jewelry. It looks better with black.

      http://www.wetseal.com/productdetail.asp?mi=1400&size=&style=38128608&color=100&token=
I also suggest pearls, you can get fake ones at claires or other fine stores lol.

For night, I would do a little updo (like a high bun or something)

      something not so difficult.

  40. QUESTION:
red dress to a wedding, accessories?
I have a wedding on saturday and i am wearing a cute red cocktail halter dress with black shoes. i was just wondering what color nail polish i should wear with it and what style/color of jewlery. Also the straps don't come aroudn the neck they lay on the shoulders. how should i wear my hair? i have just below the shoulder length hair!
    Thanks:)

    • ANSWER:
If the wedding is at night, then a cocktail dress would work. For daytime, you'd need something less flashy. Whatever you do, it is considered very bad form to outshine the bride.

As for your nails, I would get a French manicure. I think wearing your hair up in a tousled chignon with earrings that are somewhat dangly but not too much should be the only jewelry. Or you could wear your hair down and then wear a couple of shimmery bangle bracelets.

Have fun at the wedding!! ; )

Here is my dress, it is a V-neck:

  45. QUESTION:
What to wear to an Outside morning Wedding at Independence Harbor in Mass?
I have a Hale' Bob grey/black/white patterned quarter sleeve dress that I absolutely love, but don't know if it's appropriate to wear to a wedding. The wedding is outdoors and held on an October morning at Independependence Harbor in Assonet, Massachusetts. My other choice is a more elegant look, all black dress with crystal- like spaghetti straps. Perhaps too formal looking? Any opinions on shoes & accessories & hair style (up or down).

    • ANSWER:
It would help if we could see the dress? From your description it sounds quite appropriate - but it is hard to tell. I definitely wouldn't wear the black dress. Black is way too dark for a morning wedding and especially since your black dress has crystal-like spaghetti straps I would say a definite no (sparkly stuff is for after 5pm). You want to be going with lighter colours.

If your dress is something like this...
      http://images0.lkimg.com/product-images--4f8bdceb09d9fb2e527641ae0f3ec29551db11d3-8dd657f1fe490c1c--jpg_sqthumb_med--womensdresses-neutral-print-wrap-dresses-by-hale-bob.jpg
then I think it would be perfect.

Anything along these lines would be fine...

    • ANSWER:
Honestly, I know of an online store that sells Pearl Jewelry and other hand-made jewelry items. And they're the best quality and price. I brought all my bridesmaids jewelry from there and they really loved it. The website is www.bliss-stones.com and the link for the pearl collection is http://www.bliss-stones.com/category/pearl-collection/catId=3447744
They are much cheaper and better than retail stores like Macys

  47. QUESTION:
Did you have a hair consultation before your wedding?
I'm trying to justify spending double on my hair style just to have a hair consultation.. but I am not sure if it's really necessary for me? I could see how it might be if you have a veil or other accessories..

The only thing I will have in my hair is a couple of flower hair pins once the style is done.

Is there anyone else who didn't have one and was happy with that, or somebody who did and thought it wasn't necessary? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Trust me it is worth it to get the trial. Most of the time they do not charge as much for the trial as they do for the day of the wedding. Some places include the trial in their overall price.
Believe me, the last thing that you want is to not like your hair on your wedding day. If you don't like it the day of the trial then they can play around with it and get it how you want...the day of the wedding you are on a time crunch so you are going to either have to deal with the hairstyle or be late to your wedding to try and fix it.
Spend the extra money...I'm glad that I did because the way she first had my hair looked awful!!!
