Lose The Weight Before Your Big Day

Wedding Insurance

When you are getting set for the most important day of your life, you have the caterers, the venue, the reception, the cake, the rings and flowers sorted. What if something was to go wrong? The caterers don't turn up, the flowers go missing, the groom gets injured or the venue is unusable due to a broken roof? What happens to all of the costs which have already been paid out? This is where having wedding insurance companies on your side will help.

With the right liability insurance you can be rest assured that you will not be losing out financially if something out of the ordinary crops up and you find yourself potentially out of pocket. Wedding insurance companies are experienced in dealing with most cases and therefore might have insurance packages which you can choose from instead of having to go through the hassle of explaining every single detail. However, in some cases, explaining everything to the insurance company for particularly large events where lots of money is being spent, it might be worthwhile having a more tailored event.

No one would be consolable if all of the preparation, planning and dealing came to an abrupt end due to a freak storm or a burst pipe in the wedding venue. The insurance company would pay for the lost flowers, caterers who might want to charge you, the limo and the reception deposit. Imagine all of the costs of the wedding going to waste due to one aspect of the whole day ruining it? It's suddenly sounding as if it is the first item on the wedding list should be insurance.

As weddings only usually happen once in your lifetime, it is a very wise investment in choosing insurance for the day. Even though many people think insurance policies are expensive, wedding days can be as little as 1% of the total cost of the wedding.

Think about the photographer, the drivers, the caterers, the venue staff who have prepared the rooms and area for a wedding, only to be told on the day that no one will be turning up. This would ruin your chances of getting them back if the wedding was postponed and they would claim compensation from you due to loss of earnings and their wasted time.

With the cost of wedding insurance being decided mainly on how much you expect to pay for the wedding day, here are a few examples which might give you an idea of what to expect:

• Wedding insurance might cost only 0 for a cheapish wedding.
• Some wedding liability policies might cost up to 0, but think of the amount of money that couple will be paying for the full day!
• Let's take a policy which costs 0. The whole wedding might cost ,000 and the costs which could be accrued for no-shows, damages or other scenarios might run into tens of thousands of dollars. Some policies which will pay out up to million in reimbursements.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    Wedding Insurance?
Is it necessary to purchase wedding coverage through your insurance company?

    • ANSWER:
I just asked my insurance company about this. It depends on the venue and the people who own it. If you own your home and you have homeowner's insurance, which you should, you should be able to get an event rider on your policy which would cover any venue in which your are hosting your wedding.

I rent, and only have renter's insurance, and I was quoted for a million dollar event rider. And even if I choose not to go that route, I still have 0K worth of liability insurance, which is a part of my regular policy, in case of an incidents (God forbid!).

By the way, these rates are most likely higher/lower depending on your location. We're in North Central PA.

      Edit:

Most venue owners will tell you when you inquire about booking if you need insurance, and exactly how much insurance you need. Also, they will request proof of said insurance from your insurance company. I just had my agent fax a copy of my policy to my landlords.

  3. QUESTION:
Has anyone gotten liability insurance for a wedding through Wedsafe? Are they a reputable company?
I'm looking to get general liability and host liquor liability insurance. Wedsafe gave me a reasonable quote, so I'm just making sure that it's a worthwhile company to do business with.

(I know Wedsafe specializes in "wedding insurance" -- in case vendors drop out, things get cancelled, etc. -- I'm not interested in this, just in the general/liquor liability piece.)

    Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
I did an AM Best check, and there's no insurance company called "wedsafe". They're probably an agency.

Check with your local BBB, and before you buy, check the ratings of the insurance companies that will be issuing the policies.

  7. QUESTION:
What do you think about wedding insurance?
We are getting married in 2010 and a couple of venues which we are interested in have asked us to have million liability insurance.
I asked our insurance broker and they advised that we need to take a separate liability policy which could be 00+??

    • ANSWER:
This sounds ridiculous to me. I believe in living out your dreams and having a fantasy wedding but this is just over-the-top. Maybe you should just scale back and have a normal wedding.

  8. QUESTION:
    why is wedding insurance important?
I'm getting married in June this year and have not yet purchased wedding insurance? it is absolutley necessary to do this? what would it cover?

    • ANSWER:
insurance is about making a bet, by paying a small premium you can cover the expenses you may incur in the process of planning your wedding. the insurance is their to provide you with a mneans of paying for thise bills if you dont, wont or cant get married. like all insurances you dont need to have it (well all except car insurance, landlord's proprty insurance), you can accept the risk yourself. some poeple do by say not insuring their personal belongings against theft, or dont take out medicla insurance when they go abroad. So if you know that you are defiantely getting married ion June, and you know that there are not going tobe any foul ups (eg vicar leaving the parish on holiday, church burning down, recption areas not being shut due to public health problems, governments not imposing a quarrantine), boyfirend isnt going to get cold feet and leave you int he lurch in May... then you dont need insurance. But depending on the rpemium its often a cheap peace of mind (yeat it costs a bit but think of the costs of say cancelliong the weddign because boyfriend gets stranded the other side of the world because of say an illness requirting him to stay in hospital so the weddign cannot take place when you planned it....

      think of it this way
what happnes if there is afire where you plan to have your wedding reception the day before you get married.
what happens if you or your boyfirend gets seriously injured, die or decide not to get married, or get stranded in some far off distant place with soem wierd disease (heck it could be any disease that might mena you have to cancel or delay the wedding). such diseases could be bird flu, hepatitus, transplants, heart attacks, you name it.

as to what ios covered in your insurance check the details of the policy very carefully before you buy it. if you have any doubts as to what the policy may or may not cover then ask specific questions from the person selling you the insurance (if they assert that the policy covers thiose items and the schedule is vague on it get the person sellign you the insurance to to write that those specific items are included on the schedule or on a spearate letter referring to the insurance. if you do decide to buy weddign insurance, then get quotes for this form several sources.. I wouldnt 'just' buy it from say the weddign dress supplier, or soem other supplier in the weddign business.. go to an insurance broker.. or several.

and finally good luck.. no doubt everythign will go well on the day, and lets hope you insurance was effectively a waste of money.... but y'never know and by buyign insurance you are buying peace of mind.

  9. QUESTION:
    Does anyone sell wedding insurance?
I want to know about selling wedding insurance. How did you start and do you sell any other insurance?
I don't want to know about buying it, i'm asking about selling it.

    • ANSWER:
Are you asking for special event coverage, rain-out coverage, or runaway bride (groom) coverage?

In any case, it's a specialty line - you'd have to go to an insurance broker to have it placed on the excess market - kinda like a hole-in-one policy.

You can't make a living selling just that, sorry. It's going to be pretty pricey, depending on terms. If you don't know whether or not you can make a living selling one tiny niche like that - you can't. It's a poor business plan for a whole BUNCH of reasons - which most people with ANY insurance experience could figure out.

  10. QUESTION:
Are you buying wedding insurance? Have you had to use it? Do venues go out of business?
I am debating on buying insurance from wedsafe. Has anyone bought from them and had to use them? Which circumstances forced you to do that? Do venues go out of business?

    • ANSWER:
I've done LOTS of research on weddings and never once have I heard about "wedding insurance" It sounds like a load of BS to me. If you use reliable vendors and get contracts, you are going to be protected under the law. If the venue goes out of business and you have a contract, you'll get back any money you paid. The same with other vendors.

But, "wedding insurance" sounds like a scam and huge rip off.

  11. QUESTION:
    Can anyone recommend wedding insurance?
Hi - I am looking to obtain some wedding insurance as I have started to pay out deposits. Can anyone advise on the best place to identify which companies provide wedding insurance or what company to go? with?

  15. QUESTION:
As a wedding photographer, what kind of insurance do I need?
For example, if my house were to burn and all the pictures from a wedding I did were lost, obviously the new couple isn't going to be happy and there is a chance of a lawsuit. What insurance do I need for this? How much does it cost?

    • ANSWER:
The situation you've mentioned would be covered by errors and omissions insurance (AKA "E&O"). This insurance needs to be at least adequate to completely re-stage all relevant parts of the event to reproduce the photographs. This means that you would need to have enough coverage to re-rent the venue, tuxes, any decorations, fly in relatives...... In worst case. It would seldom ever come to that, but it HAS happened. Joining PPA offers you one option for E&O insurance.

However, far more important than E&O coverage is the liability coverage. The industry standard for US wedding photography is ,000,000 general liability coverage. Some reasons this coverage is important:
-What if one of your clients trips and hurts themselves while you are taking their portraits?
-What if one of your lights shorts out an outlet and sets the venue on fire?
-What if you knock over the cake, an antique vase at the venue, etc etc....

Generally speaking, anticipate spending about 00/yr on these kinds of insurance. You can get cheaper or more expensive policies depending on your specific needs, but that will put you in the right ballpark. Obviously, consult an insurance professional for actual pricing and coverage information.

Regarding the advice above on incorporating, you should consult an attorney fluent in your local business laws before making that decision. In many cases, it is difficult or impossible for a very small business to maintain enough separation between business and personal assets to maintain the corporate veil. Even if you incorporate, a clever attorney can seize upon a single instance of co-mingling assets to render all of your limits of personal liability useless. I'm not saying don't incorporate: I'm saying speak to a lawyer.

  16. QUESTION:
    When to get wedding insurance?
Im getting married in 2012 but am about to start paying deposits, should i get wedding insurance before i pay the deposits

    • ANSWER:
Yes. You don't want to be left out of pocket if the worst should happen and there is a lot of time between now and then for things to go wrong. Better to be safe than sorry.

  17. QUESTION:
why would i need to get or consider on getting wedding insurance?
    what does it do?

    • ANSWER:
it protects you - if you lose your jobs and have to re-arrange,or the venue burns down or your dress is damaged.that is the purpose of it.you wouldn't dare dream of going on holiday without travel insurance or buying a home and not getting home insurance, your wedding is the same:

      http://www.confetti.co.uk/article/view/9893-8198-0-Why_Insure_Your_Wedding__Insurance.do

basically,it means that YOU don't end up out of pocket - weddings are expensive enough without having some disaster put the whole day at risk!you can usually start a policy a maximum of 2 years before the day

  18. QUESTION:
does wedding insurance include if the reception venue is to close down or change hands.?
our wedding is in June and our Wedding Reception Venue is requesting 50% of the cost, my partner is worried about paying that and them going out of Business or changing owners?
    does anyone recommend anyone?

    • ANSWER:
People think wedding insurance covers them if one party changes his or her mind about getting married. Wrong!

When you sign the contracts for the venue, ask, and be sure it is in writing, what will happen if the venue goes out of business or is bought/sold.

Sit down with an agent and go over what a policy covers and what it doesn't. Just like any other kind of insurance, read the fine print.

  23. QUESTION:
Where Can I Get Wedding Insurance?
I want to get my wedding ceremony and reception insured but can't find a place to insure a wedding. Where Can I Get Wedding Insurance?

    • ANSWER:
try the knot.com they offered an article awhile back on wedding insurance. It exists and it is usually only used to cover bad weather,an unexpected accident,or something like that it is usually doesn't cover someone calling the wedding off. Here is an article about wedding insurance...don't know if it will help:
Though you might not want to think about it, disasters can strike your wedding day. From a sudden cancellation to stolen gifts to a damaged gown, wedding insurance can help protect you against the unforseen, and can also afford you great peace of mind. But what exactly is wedding insurance -- and how does it work? Here's the inside scoop. Before you buy wedding insurance, check with your each of your vendors to see how well they're covered.

      What is it?
Basically, wedding insurance protects a couple's investment from circumstances beyond their control, and reimburses expenses incurred. For example, what if your limo driver doesn't show up and you have to book another one the morning of the wedding -- for three times the price? Or what if the groom's custom-made tuxedo is lost in airport baggage, and he has to buy a new one the day before the wedding? What if your reception space goes out of business a month before the wedding, and you lose your deposit and have to book another space? These are the types of big-day financial losses that wedding insurance can help to protect.

      Why Get Wedding Insurance?
      Consider these scenarios:

Janet and Dan spend months planning their winter wedding. But on wedding day, their reception site is made inaccessible by an ice storm. With the right wedding insurance policy, the couple can postpone their wedding and receive every penny they lost (less the deductible) -- including money for the invites, cake, catering, attire, and non-refundable deposits for ceremony musicians, floral designer, and other vendors.

The bride's father is injured in a car accident just before the wedding and cannot travel. If the couple has to postpone their wedding, with wedding insurance they could be paid back their expenses to enable them to have the wedding when the father recovers.

Right before the ceremony, Brittany's gown catches a gust of wind. Unfortunately, the tulle dances right over to the end of Uncle Howard's cigar and the dress instantly goes up in flames. Fortunately, the right insurance policy covers the replacement of the veil and gown.

      How Much Does it Cost?
A basic insurance policy that covers loss of photos, videos, attire, presents, rings, and deposits usually costs anywhere between 5 and 0, depending on the amount of coverage you want. General liability insurance, which covers up to ,000,000 for accidents, costs around 5.

      Do You Really Need it?
Before you buy wedding insurance, check with your each of your vendors to see how well they're covered -- your reception site or your caterer may already have their own insurance, so you wouldn't want to pay for overlapping coverage out of your own pocket. Ask your vendors for a copy of their policy, and then figure out where you aren't fully covered.

      When Should You Get it?
The sooner the better. Let's say you put a deposit on your reception hall 12 months prior to your wedding date and then it burns to the ground a few weeks before the big day. With wedding insurance, you'll be sure to get your deposit back. But note: most insurance companies have limitations on how far in advance you can purchase insurance.

      What Does it Cover?
Problems with the site, weather, vendors, key people, sickness, or injury are the top concerns come wedding day. There is usually a specified maximum amount, which can be claimed under each section, and a deductible also applies. Be sure to find out the details of your insurance plan.

Site: Check to see if your ceremony and reception site is already insured. If it's not, wedding insurance can cover the cost arising out of unavoidable cancellation (such as damage or inaccessibility to the ceremony site), if your reception hall is unable to honor your reservation because it has burned in a fire, experienced an electrical outage, or just plain closed down. Sometimes this policy covers the rehearsal dinner site, too.

Weather: Any weather conditions which prevent the bride, groom, any relative whose presence at the wedding is essential, or the majority of the guests from reaching the premises where the wedding is to take place. Insurance covers rescheduling the wedding and all the details involved -- such as ceremony flowers, tent rental, and reception food.

Vendor No-show: What if essential wedding people -- the caterer or the officiant, for example -- fail to show up? A wedding insurance policy usually covers cancellation or postponement of the wedding for these reasons.

Sickness or Injury: Wedding insurance may also include sickness or injury to the bride, groom, or anyone essential to the wedding.

Military or Job: It's true, military personnel may be shipped out at a moment's notice. Wedding insurance can cover postponement of the wedding due to the bride or groom suddenly getting called to military duty. This can also apply to a last-minute corporate move -- i.e. the bride's company suddenly relocates her to another city.

      Additional Coverage
Couples can take out supplemental policies to defend against damages incured by other wedding-related items such as photography, videography, and gifts.

Photography: Some policies pay to retake the photographs after the fact if the photographer fails to appear or the original negatives are lost, damaged, stolen, or not properly developed. Some policies will pay to re-stage the event -- with the principal participants so that pictures can be retaken. A policy may also pay costs for rehiring a photographer, buying a new wedding cake, and new flowers.

Videographer: When a videotape produced by a professional videographer is damaged (he or she used faulty materials for example), a policy usually pays a certain amount to have either a video montage created, a video compilation made of the photographs and other wedding memorabilia, or, if possible, a retaking of the official video at a restaging.

Wedding Videography Offers a Creative Outlet and Extra Cash

Bristol, RI (PRWEB) July 5, 2004

When producing a wedding video, it's easy to get caught up in special video and sound effects. The best wedding videographers know that these things wont make a great wedding video; the way the wedding story is told is what makes the video. The new "Video Guide to Professional Wedding Videography" from VideoUniversity.com, recently named one of the two most valuable video internet sites by PC Magazine, is a complete and detailed video guide on how to create a memorable wedding video.

According to Hal Landen, producer of the new program,...

Gifts: Whether they're mailed to your home or handed to you on your wedding day, valuable items like gifts are something else you might want to consider insuring. Think about a party crasher lifting unattended presents from your reception. Gift coverage pays to repair or replace non-monetary gifts that are lost, stolen, or damaged. A police report is usually required for stolen gifts. The damage or theft generally has to take place within a limited time period (ranging from 24 hours to seven days depending on the specific policy) before or after the wedding, in order to be covered.

Attire: This coverage pays to repair or replace the bridal gown or other special attire when it is in your possession and is lost, stolen, or damaged (including financial failure of the bridal store). Special attire usually includes the clothing and accessories bought or rented that are to be worn by the bride, the groom, and attendants at the ceremony.

Personal Liability: Personal liability covers bodily injury or property damage caused by an accident that occurs during the course of the wedding (your best man trips and falls on his way up to the mike to roast you or Uncle Murray suffers a Harvey Wallbanger wall banger).

Medical Coverage: This covers reasonable medical expenses (up to the policy's limits) for each person who is injured during the covered events from a cause of loss, which would be covered by your personal liability.

Honeymoon: Your honeymoon can cost as much as a new car. But before buying travel insurance to protect your investment, see if your credit card and/or homeowner's policy covers you if your luggage gets lifted, your trip is delayed, or you have to cancel. If not, you can a buy separate, trip-only policy. Call your insurer, or ask your travel agent for details. Also, certain wedding insurance packages include optional travel insurance for your honeymoon.

      Things to Consider
Every insurance policy and every wedding scenario is different. Be sure to talk to your insurance agent -- and have him or her explain the nuts and bolts to you. You want to make sure you and your sweetie understand every detail of your policy.

  24. QUESTION:
Wedding Insurance - Which one is the best?
There doesn't seem to be any wedding insurance comparing sites out there.
So i'd thought i'd ask the advice of all you brides to be :D

Wedding insurance is insurance you take out on your wedding incase the worst happens. So you get your money back.

Weddings are expensive things you know..
It doesnt mean incase your fiance backs out! Its incase the comapny goes bust that you have bookings with.
For example, if your florist goes bust and you have paid sh*t loads of money for flowers that they cant pay you back.

You can claim on your insurance.

Serious answers only please. If you cant give a serious answer why even bother?

    • ANSWER:
Wedding insurance is one of the most important expenses of a wedding, are you people serious!?! Especially in this economic climate, with thousands of businesses going bust everyday. My wedding insurance is through weddingplan and it was £27.50 for my £10,000 budget wedding. And it has already been useful. We had arranged suit hire through a company called 'Greenwoods' which has been put into administration and so have claimed back the £400 i had paid out for suits which would have other wise been lost, had i not took the common sense step of buying wedding insurance. I highly recommend Weddingplan.

God, why do people bother answering if they have no idea what you are talking about!!

You should contact your existing insurance company and ask them if they cover private parties. This assumes that you don't get paid for the use of your property. If you get paid, then you will probably have to get a different type of insurance and maybe even have your friend sign a contract.

  26. QUESTION:
My son flushed my wedding rings down the toilet will state farm insurance cover that under our homeowners ?
I had my rings on the stand next to the toilet and sink in our master bathroom. I went into the bedroom tog et something and I hear the toilet flush and when I went in there to see what he was doing my wedding rings were gone. We have State Farm for our homeowners insurance that covers our jewlrey for I think 2500 but will they cover something like this?

    • ANSWER:
All homeowners policies give you the option to add extra coverage for furs, jewelry, etc etc.

If you don't have specific jewelry coverage it probably won't cover anything unless it was stolen from your home.

  27. QUESTION:
    Wedding photography insurance?
Hi, i was wondering whether wedding photographs would be part of the wedding insurance package together with the rest of it, or its something i should require from my wedding photographer? I remember photographers usually have something called public or employee liability, but i'm not sure, as i've heard different things from different people.

    • ANSWER:
I think all UK wedding insurance policies provide cover should something go wrong with your photographs. You should be covered if either something goes wrong technically or if the photography company goes bust etc. The insurance company will then pay for you to 're-stage' the wedding so that you can get the photographs.

I would have thought the photographer should have some form of public liability but this might only cover them if they injure or harm anyone.

It's perhaps worth taking out wedding insurance anyway to cover other aspects of the day.

  28. QUESTION:
Would YOU Marry someone for Health Insurance, due to Chronic Pain and then have the Wedding of YOUR Dreams?
I have chronic pain, in my lower back and leg, from getting hit by a car, while walking in a crosswalk. I had the wedding planned before than my brother, Mom, then Dad died, in less than six months. I was going to start planning the wedding for next summer, but got hit, and I am in chronic pain and can't work and very thrifty, and have some great ideas, but can't think clearly, at this time, until I have this surgery, that my car insurance will not approve at this time, and could take a year or more to approve. Would you marry now, to get the surgery done(as my Fiancee has great insurance and doesn't need any Approvals to see a specialist) and then get married that summer after the surgery so my son (10) gives me away. Also, can you hide it or is it against the law not to say you are married? Opinions is needed! Thanks!
My Fiancee's insurance"COVERS ALL PRE EXSISTING CONDITIONS"as he works for the Military, and I would not hide it to officials but to some family and friends, until we have our "OFFICIAL" Wedding, the summer after the surgery, s it is in the works, years ago!As I work with insurance companies, and I know some insurance DO COVER PRE EXSISTING CONDITIONS, but you have to do research. Plus, each state is different! I guess, I am lucky to love a man, planning a wedding, over 3 years ago, and I am able to be covered for all my health issues, as my son has some, and his father WILL NOT pay for any insurance, and my Fiancee/Husband, would gladly step up and be a DAD! I am blessed! So, if anyone stated that insuance will not cover Pre Exsisting condions, must do their homework, as there are some that do and YES there are some that will not,but with these days, most people have issues, even at birth, and if you are from a single parent home, that child can't be covered? YES, they ARE COVERED!

    • ANSWER:
get married get your injuries fixed you can have a ceremony later ,

  29. QUESTION:
Can I get married for insurance purposes and then have a "fake" wedding?
I want to have a wedding at my parent's house next April, but my fiance wants us to get our license before the end of 2010 to get joint health insurance for next year. We would have to pretend we are not married, and would have to stage an official ceremony in April. Are there any loopholes?

    • ANSWER:
When you get your marriage license from city hall, you are legally married. The wedding is just a religious or social ceremony.

  30. QUESTION:
My wedding rings disappeard out of my home 10 yrs. ago has it been too long to claim them on my insurance?
My wedding rings disappeared out of my home 10 yrs ago. Every time we have done a home project or replaced carpeting we have been careful to search for them. Do you think it has been too long to claim them on my home owners insurance? I would really love to get them replaced.

    • ANSWER:
      Yep, too long.

Not only that, but "oops I lost them" isn't covered under the standard homeowners policy.

  31. QUESTION:
For your wedding, did you have to purchase event liability insurance?
    Okay ladies...
Which company did you go with for your wedding/event liability insurance

What has your experience been with them

How much did you end up paying

Which part of country are you (curious if the cost varies by region/state)
every venue in my area requires it.
and "da vidica"- wth are you talking about?

    • ANSWER:
I'm in St. Louis, MO and the chapel we're having our ceremony in requires it because its a historic landmark. We're getting it through the organization that owns the chapel. I don't know what company they use, but it will cost us about 0 for the required ,000,000 policy. Try asking your venue if they have a preferred company to give you a starting point.

  33. QUESTION:
    should we get wedding insurance?
my mom was telling me that i should get wedding insurance or something so that way if a vendor happens to not show up or something it will be covered for the money i lost..i'm not really sure if i should do this? where would i get it from? and how much is it?
also i was wondering.. in a limo is it just you and your new husband riding in the limo to the reception or does the whole bridal party? thanks in advance for everything!

    • ANSWER:
I've never heard of such a thing. And, I don't know why you would need it.

The vendors you choose, need your business - they can't really afford to have bad publicity, so there's no way they wouldn't show - IF you have done your research, and found reputable people. If you hire your MOH's little brother's college room mate's ex girlfriends brother to be the DJ... then well, he might not show, but go with someone who is well known (not the cheapest guy either!) and you'll be good to go.

As far as the limo... Generally it's you, and the female members of your bridal party showing up in the limo, then at least you, DH, MOH and BM in the limo to the reception... if it's big enough, it can be your entire bridal party.

Just make sure you remind everyone to have a ride from the reception site home. You may think it's silly, but I can't tell you how many stories I've heard about people not remembering that they need a car at the reception site after riding there in a limo.

      Good luck, and Congratulations!

  34. QUESTION:
    Wedding/honeymoon insurance?
I am looking into wedding insurance and travel insurance (for the honeymoon) but am not really sure what I am looking at/reading when I do the research. We are traveling to Jamaica in October, which is about the start of hurricane season, so we want to be covered in case something happens. And we just thought that a few hundred dollars to cover the wedding was good sense. Does anyone have any company recommendations or tips? Thanks!
Wedding insurance isn't about protecting against people drinking too much or vendor no-show -- it's to ensure you get your money back. You can't assume that because a vendor doesn't show that you automatically get your money back. They were shady enough to not show up in the first place, weren't they? So there's no guarantee they won't try to swindle you out of your deposits. I trust that my vendors aren't shady, but in the event that something happens beyond our control, I want to get my money back.

    • ANSWER:
I've never heard of wedding insurance. *I look it up* I don't think that sounds worth it at all. I mean if something happens, it's messed up regardless. If the weather messes it up, it will still ruin the day. Regardless of getting your money back. And it says that it protects against Vendors No-Show. Well no. It will get you your money back. That doesn't really help. You'd get your money back regardless b/c they didn't show. But you won't have a photographer there on your day. And that's what you really wanted. You have family members you are seriously worried about drinking so much you need protection from alcohol injuries? Don't serve so much. It really only sounds useful if you are in the military and there is a possibility of being deployed.

Travel insurance for the honeymoon is a necessity. I mean if it has to be cancelled, the cruise ship will either refund the money or give you credit for another ship. Plus the insurance is for if something comes up and for example, you are in the hospital and can't go. Or a family member gets ill. If you don't, the money is just forfeited.

  37. QUESTION:
Public Liability Insurance for a wedding reception?
The venue where I am holding my wedding reception has asked me to provide a Public Liability Insurance. I dont own a business how am I supposed to get a Public liability insurance? Please suggest.

    • ANSWER:
You definitely need to call your insurance agent on this one. Many homeowners insurance policies will cover this type of event without an additional charge because it is already covered by the personal liability portion of the policy. BUT this is not universal, some companies exclude off premises rentals.

If you do not have a homeowners policy or have a homeowners policy that will not cover your off premises (away from your residence) reception the cost will be in the neighborhood of 0. with additional premium if liquor is be served.

  38. QUESTION:
How does insurance change if I have my engagement ring and wedding band welded together?
My husband insured my engagement ring when he purchased it. Now that I have two rings, I would like to have them welded together. Would this cancel or nullify the insurance on my engagement ring? Would I have to re-insure the rings after I have them welded together?

    • ANSWER:
It's not going to change them at all. YOu might want to ask your agent to note your file, that the two rings have been welded - but it won't affect value, coverage, or anything else.

  39. QUESTION:
Why are people in the insurance business and wedding photography business disliked?

    • ANSWER:
Funny. I don't know anyone who dislikes wedding photographers. If they do, maybe it is because some of them are way overpriced?

Insurance people, though, it is obvious. Insurance is, generally speaking, WAY overpriced, and these people are specifically trained to find excuses NOT to pay on claims. It is not their fault, but the nature of their job results in most of them screwing people over for large amounts of money. Naturally people are going to dislike them.

  40. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of any companies that do wedding insurance? ?
If anyone has any ideas and can give me some good feedback on companies please let me know. Preferably a company that won't go bust!!

    xx

    • ANSWER:
Some of the big players are E&L, Wedding Plan and Confetti. There are also high street names that supply wedding insurance such as Debenhams and M&S.

We got ours from Confetti but didn't need to claim anything so I can't really tell you what they're like. Cheaper cover also seems to be available elsewhere now.

In the current climate it seems any company can go bust but I'd imagine you'd be ok with one of the bigger names.

I've answered assuming you're asking about wedding insurance available in the UK. Other answers seems to be assuming USA. Hope that's ok.

  41. QUESTION:
    Wedding consultant or insurance agent?
Hey there. I'm considering being either a wedding consultant or an insurance agent. Are either of these your career? Do you like it? How can I go about doing either one of these?

    • ANSWER:
You can do both. Work part time as an insurance agent and be on call as a wedding consultant. If you are on a commission basis with the insurance company I see no problem.

      Peace and blessings!

  42. QUESTION:
    Wedding Insurance (UK)?
Please can you tell how much you paid for your wedding insurance and which company you used?

    • ANSWER:
We had ours from Confetti and paid around £50. That was 2 years ago though.

You can now get wedding insurance from as little as £23.99 from a company called Weddingplan. E&L are only just a little bit more too. If I remember rightly, Confetti insurance is actually provided by the same people that do Weddingplan.

  43. QUESTION:
Does Zales offer any insurance or cleaning on men's wedding bands?
I am wanting to get my fiance's wedding band from zales, and the one he wants is only available online. It doesn't say anything on the website about any sort of warranty or anything on it, it only talks about "free lifetime cleaning and polishing for zales diamond jewelry". His wedding band does not have any diamonds in it though.

    • ANSWER:
Call your local Zales store. Give them the item # and they can have it ordered to the store and when you get there to pick it up you can purchase a warranty on it which includes cleaning and such. There are different plans to choose from ranging from one year to lifetime ...depending on how much you want to spend. I suggest you go for lifetime, bc I can gurantee you the first year won't need any maintence on it so you just waited $ on it.

  45. QUESTION:
Wedding Insurance not paying need advice thank you?
    Hi there,
Im in desperate need of some advice, Basically i am getting married at the end of this month, My partner has just been made redundant at the end of August, We have paid just over £15,000 for this wedding and we have another £4000 to pay......We have no money left as im needing cover our mortgage etc and a loan is just out of question.
So i remembered our wedding insurance that i took out last year which is still valid and last week they said this case is called mitigating the loss instead of paying out just over £19,000 for whole wedding the insurance company would pay out £4000.
Today i received a call saying now they would only pay out if we were to cancel the whole wedding, Which isn't an option as alot of people are coming from all over the country and their travel expenses wouldn't be covered.
I just dont know what to do im at a loss :o ( Ive been crying all morning and someone said to me it sounds like the insurance company have managed to figure out the wedding is so close and we cant cancel it so they know we wouldnt go down other option and they wont have to pay the £4000.

Advice is appreciated thank you soo much xxx
    Hey Guys,
I know in most cases insurance companys would not pay out because we cant afford to, But in my policy it does say our insurance covers redundancy and that is only reason why we are short is due to these circumstances.
In redundancy in most policys would be to cancel wedding but because of our issue being the wedding is in 3 weeks there is a term "mitigating the loss" to which it would be more beneficial for the insurance company to pay out the £4000 instead of the £15,000.
but not they have gone back on their word ahhh!!!
thanks for ur help tho guys xxx

    • ANSWER:
i didn't think wedding insurance paid out under those circumstances? (ie not being able to afford what your choices)

read your contract carefully to make sure exactly what it covers, and speak to the citizens advice bureau to ensure that you know your rights. then call them back (if you are covered) and if the first person won't help, ask to speak to a manager

    • ANSWER:
If you have coverage for "mitigating the loss" under your policy, you need to pull that policy out and read EXACTLY what you're covered for. It would be very unusual, for "mitigating the loss" to apply to redundancy.

But if it does, you just have to file a complaint with your omnibudsman.

  47. QUESTION:
    Wedding insurance for our reception?
Ok here it goes. My wedding reception is going to be at a fishing club my uncle belongs to. For some reason we need insurance. My parents got a good price for my sister's wedding (a little over 0 for 1 million $ coverage), plus at her wedding she had a lot of friends that drank a lot but no one drove home druck and nothing happened. Well, my fiance's father thinks we should go with his insurance which is 00 because he thinks we need it. We do not really have any hard partiers comings to the wedding and I think everyonje will respect us. By the way both of our parents are paying for half but my parents are giving us ,000 toward the wedding. I would like to save some of that $ for our honeymoon and only spend ,000 but if we go with his father's way of thinking we will not have much money left over and my fiance does not care. What should I do please help?

    • ANSWER:
How much coverage for the 00? I know that 1 million sounds like plenty of coverage, but if you have someone get into an accident that could be exhausted very quickly. Is his father friends with the agent that is quoting 00? More info please.

  48. QUESTION:
    Are you buying Wedding Insurance?
Why or why not? I'm getting married Oct 23, 2010 and totally plan on purchasing it for my wedding. I sell Wedding Insurance, but it wasn't until I actually got into my own wedding that I realized how important it really is. What's your take?
It was definately NOT a disguised sales pitch!! I do quite well without pitching on Yahoo! Thank you very much!

For everyone else, it's not just in case you change your mind....that part of the coverage won't even pay if the bride and groom are paying for the wedding on their own. It's in case something happens to a vendor, like they go out of business or if someone gets called to active duty or someone important to the wedding gets hurt or sick and you have to postpone. It's to make sure that the or K in deposits doesn't get lost if you have to cancel or postpone. Future Mrs. B, yep! It can cover for weather related incidents too! I'm having an indoors wedding, but all my guests are comming from out of state so I'm getting it anyway....just in case there's some horrible storm and no one can make it! Thanks guys! I'm purchasing my policy today :)

    • ANSWER:
      I bought it.

It was really cheap and covered us for a lot.

Espeically like if something happens to a wedding venue, or if one of our suppliers ceases trading (like the cake supplier/photographer etc) we're covered for our money. I haven't spent a fortune for my wedding but I'd like to know its covered!

  49. QUESTION:
Will homeowners insurance cover my wedding rings that were stolen?

    • ANSWER:
Yes that is covered under your contents coverage portion of your policy. BUT if the rings exceed the amount of that coverage you are screwed unless you added a jewelry rider with an appraised value. Call your agent and get it squared away.

  50. QUESTION:
Travel Insurance for Wedding Dress ?
My fiance is travelling back to Canada in two weeks to buy the wedding dress for our wedding next year, which she will be bringing back on her return flight.

In the light of the recent heightened security at British Airports, there is a chance she will have to put the dress in the hold of the aircraft.

If she does this, would travel insurance cover this ?

Most travel insurance companies I have looked at, give a figure of approximately £250 cover for individual items, which is I do not think is enough to cover a dress.

Does anyone have any experience of this ?

Any info or views would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    GW

    • ANSWER:
Have you looked at wedding insurance?
Confetti.co.uk do one & it you can cover dresses when abroad - worth a try
      Have a great wedding x
