We've been watching her for a while. And we've seen the eyeliner coming through the do 00004000 or before the rest of her, so I don't know why I was surprised to be greeted with the same eyeliner overkill on Kate Middleton's wedding day. Maybe it's because I was expecting an upgrade from what she does everyday with her own moderate talents in that department. Because the royal wedding dress was so classic I was hoping that the makeup would live up to the classicism of the dress and be timeless and forgiving to the camera. But even more, I was praying that the "day after" makeup reviews wouldn't steer a nation to repeat the same errors for their own big occasions. But alas, I've seen so many media outlets and videos singing the virtues of a look gone awry. So I'd like to offer brides tips for taking the best of the new Royal's bridal beauty and knowing how to adapt the look to make it work for a wedding day image that will stand the test of time.

How to get a royal wedding look and do it yourself!

Skin
What not to do: don't use a moisturizing foundation that will slide off or start to shine early in the event. Don't miss the nose when you powder your face; the nose is the most "stand out" part of the face and if there is any shine, it will bounce off every light and camera lens.
What to do: wear a water-based, water-resistant foundation that looks like REAL skin. I like MAC's Face and Body. Also use a sheer powder that will combat shine but not add bulk to the texture of the skin, adding extra attention to the nose. MAC's blot powder is a favourite.
Cheeks
What not to do: don't use bronzer on the apples of the cheeks. Cheeks are meant to be flushed the way they get when you exercise a little. And don't contour the hollows of the cheeks with bronzer. Contours of the face are to be accentuated with real "shade" tones like taupes, not orange.

QUESTION:
What are some good makeup looks for a evening wedding?-
ANSWER:
A smokey eye, that's not too heavy but has some shimmer to it would be perfect. Light pink/nude lip with it. Giving it a little brown tone makes it look different also.
I would use Everyday Minerals:
Smokey - wet as a liner
Starry Eyed - dry in crease (sideways V shape)
In the Garden - dry on the lid
Baby Bath - highlighter

QUESTION:
Any tips for achieving a great makeup look for wedding day?
Not hiring a professional for this so any tips from experience would be appreciated
-
ANSWER:
Check youtube for tutorials. Search for "bridal makeup"... I know MakeupByTiffanyD has a really nice bridal look. It's very neutral, but plays up the girl's natural assets (Eyes, skin, etc).Try to keep your makeup pretty neutral. I know a lot of makeup artists are in love with the Coastal Scents 28 neutral palette for bridal makeup. There are a lot of really gorgeous tutorials using the neutral palette on youtube, too.
http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm/product/1535_122/28-piece-eye-shadow-neutral-palette.cfmBuy the makeup you think you'll need and practice the look a couple times beforehand. You don't want to attempt a look for the first time on your wedding day. You'll be a bundle of nerves, and it's just one more thing you'll have to deal with.
Or, if you're willing to shell out a little bit of money, go to MAC and get a makeover. Tell them that you want a bridal look, and ask them for a face chart when they're all through. They'll draw exactly what they did on a picture of a face, and write down exactly what colors they used. If you go to a MAC counter on a weekday (Mon-Thursday) I believe makeovers are free (This may vary from counter to counter-- call first to ask), but if you go on a weekend, there is a mandatory minimum purchase of , to compensate for their time. Just make sure you ask for a face chart. Even if you decide not to buy all of the MAC makeup they used, you can take the chart to a drugstore and look for similar colors that happen to be a little bit more in your price range.
Either way, keep it neutral, practice (the more the better!), and if you decide to go to MAC, ask them for a face chart. (I've never been offered a face chart- I've always had to ask.)
Good luck hon! And congratulations!

How does my wedding makeup look?
I realize my teeth are yellow, i'm going to be doing some mad whitening.. but should my eye makeup be more smokey?

pics of wedding stuff are on my flickr site in the wedding set as well
Bride2Be May of 09 - your obviously jealousand i saw the comment you made about me being happy with the way I look, I am however i've lost 14 lbs in 5 weeks.... so don't tell me i'm not trying....you don't know me.
Sorry Bride 2 Be may of 09 your now cinderella bride
hahaha-
ANSWER:
First of all, your makeup does look beautiful! However, I always really like the dramatic eye and I think having just a little bit more of a smokey look would be beautiful. It doesn't have to be to much more though...you also want to remember that as the day goes on your makeup is going to start to fade a little...and trust me, you don't get a lot of time to touch up your makeup. Actually, the day goes by so quickly you barely have time to do anything
Also, just as a helpful tip, if you have oily eyelids like I do try getting Urban Decay's Eye Primer Potion. My eye makeup stayed on all day! I love that stuff...but I really need it because I have extremely oily eyelids! Just a helpful hint
Oh, I looked at your pictures on flickr and saw your dress! You look beautiful! It's a gorgeous dress! Hope you post some pictures of the wedding
Good luck to you...and enjoy your day!

How did your makeup look on your wedding day?
Any details? Pics? Ideas? Thanks!!-

My best friend wore very minimal makeup.
My sister wore blue eyeshadow, which matched her wedding colors, a thick eye liner, and neutral lipstick.
My sister's friend wore very dark makeup so that it would be show in the picutres.
Perfect!!!
As you can see...there is no real rule to your makeup on the wedding day.

QUESTION:
Is Tarte a Good Wedding Makeup?
I went to Ulta recently and asked one of the makeup artists there to help choose which makeups would look best for my wedding. All she stuck to was the Tarte makeups, and this is what she suggested for me: the tarte primer, the foundation, the setting powder, and the blush. Will these products really be good for my big day? Please tell me your experiences with this product line!
-
ANSWER:
You might want to call a local skin salon and investigate air brushing your makeup for the big day! That's what a lot of brides do for that gorgeous, flawless skin that photographs well and holds up for the entire event. It's what all the movie stars do! You will generally find them listed in the yellow pages of the phone book--or by doing an online search for "airbrush+makeup"and then add the name of your own town/city.Based on what the Ulta person told you, it will probably be cheaper in the long run than investing in products you might never use again.
If you DO decide to go the makeup route, choose mineral makeups that will bounce light and make for beautiful wedding photos.

-
ANSWER:
I think you looked lovely - but I do agree that the makeup (and hair) could be better still. The main issue with the makeup is the colour - the purple and pink are a little much and you would suit natural colours much better. You are very pretty so you just need to highlight the features on your face, not cover them with colour. The hair would be better (in my opinion) if it wasn't so tightly pulled back - something a little softer would be stunning. This is what I would envisage for your look....

QUESTION:
Wedding makeup!!!!!?
I have just had a pre-wedding make up trial and though it looked ok, I didn't feel overly confident with it as I never wear the stuff. My eyes were lined with black though I am blonde and fair. People have said that it has to be pretty heavy for the photos. Do I go with the trial or do I demand to have a natural look?-
ANSWER:
This is YOUR wedding and you have got to feel comfortable in your makeup. If you have reservations about it then speak up. The last thing you want is to look at your wedding photos ten years from now and regret the makeup. It is possible to have a "natural" look while still wearing the correct makeup for photos. A lot of that has to do with blending and choosing the correct products. Your makeup does not have to be caked on or seem heavy to be photo ready.
Talk with your makeup artist about your concerns. It is possible that a darker brown smudged closely to your lash line may be a simple fix. Your eyes will be defined but you won't have the harshness of black or a defined line. You want a graduation of color and definition.
You can also take a few photos of the makeup after it is done to put your mind at ease as to how it will look.
Definitely talk with your artist though and if after that you don't feel comfortable then look around for someone else. Good luck!

QUESTION:
I went to the local mall and had a "makeover" to pick out my wedding day makeup. I want to duplicte that look.
I am doing my makeup on my wedding day my self. I want to duplicate the look the makeup artist at the mall did for me but it was a little more drastic than what i wanted. How do i duplicate and tone it down? Should i go a second time and have it done again?-
ANSWER:
Definitely get it redone, tell them you want something a little more natural. Make a note of the colors they use. Then have a friend/family member take a few photos of the look from a couple of angles (even close up on the eyes). The practice-practice until you can recreate the look consistently. You may even find a look you prefer. Good luck and Congrats on your wedding!

QUESTION:
What makeup would look good for green eyes for this wedding?
i'm going to a wedding this weekend, and i need to decide what makeup would look good with my dress but also make my eyes pop a bit. i'm wearing a white pink and black dress... and i have green eyes.. suggestions?!-
ANSWER:
When it comes to make-up, I'm all about enhancing your natural beauty with a little touch of sexy. I would aim for whatever looks natural, except add a teeny bit of something noticeable. Make-up from the Laura Mercier line at Sephora does a good job with that. For green eyes, a medium to dark brown would look really pretty with a little bit of black liner on the waterline and black mascara.http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=5809&searchString=laura%20mercier

QUESTION:

i am a bride to be in june and i am going crazy i cant find anyone for a resonable price to do my wedding makeup. i want to look amazing. so if anyone can help out i am in desperate need
looking for someone in the chicago area-
ANSWER:
I suggest visiting weddinglenox.com and post your request. Their matching system http://www.weddinglenox.com/f-membersignup1.php will match you up with local vendors with pricing you specified. I tried it and have good result as I only recieved response from vendors according to my request. One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that's too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.
The sites I provide above have a easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page plus, you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That save me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.

QUESTION:
i dont wanna use makeup.my colour looks dull if i dont put on makeup.my wedding is approacing, ans soon.?-
ANSWER:
As far as makeup goes:::i'm guessing ur talking about liquid makeup etc... try bareminerals or another mineral makeup. It feels like you don't have anything on, yet it gives you as much coverage as you need with a healthy natural glow/look. In the bigger cities, they have baremineral stores in the malls, where you can have someone do your makeup professionally, or you could try a makeup consultant at Sephoras/ Macy's/ Parisian.
Naturally Healthy skin::
My skin used to be kind of dull too, infact I used to have acne. But now I get compliments on my quote on quote healthy looking skin all the time.
- I drink 2-3tbs of apple cider vinegar (gives the skin a healthy pink flush) with 1 tb of blackstrapp molasses (great skin purifier), 1/8 tsp of baking soda(alkalizes the mixture), and 1/2 tsp of tumeric (appears to shrink pores) everyday.- I eat as many fruits and veggies, and drink as much water as I can.
- I try to workout everyday, whether its goin crazy freestylin bhangra or a pilates workout or even a jog/run. And I spend as much time as possible with family/friends. Working out and having fun helps me destress.. and I've noticed the less stress I have, the better my skin looks.
- Sleeping 8 hours a night really helps right away and in the long run.As far as products go::
- I'm guessing your pretty naturalistic.. but you can use a minimal amount of products and still have great skin. I would talk to a dermatologist/skin consultant for specific products right for your skin type. I use an exfoliator once a week (gets rid of dead skin to bring out a 'new-skin glow').
Hope that helps. When your happy/destressed you emit this natural glow so just let it all go and enjoy the moment! And yeh, congrats on the wedding!!

QUESTION:
Hair & makeup for a somewhat destination wedding?
I'm getting married in January near Mount Rainier (Washington) and I'm wondering what I should do about my hair and makeup. The wedding location is not very close to...anything really. I could drive 2 hours and get everything done in Seattle but being the middle of Winter, I'd prefer to stay on location (if the wedding). What can I do?I thought maybe visiting some makeup counters and getting some looks I could recreate myself could work. Any other suggestions?
-
ANSWER:
That's what I'm planning on doing, going to some make up counters and as they're doing my make up tell me step by step what they're doing, so I can do it myself. Also you could do a trial of your hair too, go to a salon ask what the think would look cute and also have them tell you step by step what they sre doing and you could have your brides maids help you with your hair. Hope I helped some, congrats =)

QUESTION:
Wedding makeup, anyone help?
What makeup did you/are you having for your wedding? Natural look or full on glamour? Also can anyone recommend some good foundation that will stay on all day, or a fixing spray? I guess I'm going to have to buy the expensive stuff, would quite like to try out some looks first!
err thanks for that paco, he has seen me without makeup already! Our wedding day wont be the first time we've met haha!
Awww thanks everyone, got some great answers here, wasnt expecting so many!! mwah x-
ANSWER:
I think it really depends on where you are and when you're getting married. For example, if you're getting married mid-June and the humidity will be 100% you want something that will not run down your face or make you look shiny as you sweat.I would suggest for pictures you go "full on glamour" or it will not even show up in photos.
I would recommend 3 things. First, I would go to MAC (if you have it in your area) not only do they have the best fake eyelashes (in my opinion of course) but they will sit down and work with you, show you how to put on your make-up step by step. (as long as you buy like 1 or 2 things...get the eyelashes! ha!)
I would also recommend a primer. It will help your makeup stay on longer. I use Smash box. You can get it at any fine department store or Sephora sells it too. If you have Sephora, they sell a travel size which is much cheaper than if you buy the larger bottle.
For hairspray I recommend Frizzease. It comes in a silver bottle with a purple cap. It will withhold humidity. It's sold at the grocery store. It's like 4 bucks and really works well.
Hope this helps and good luck!

QUESTION:
Looking good on my wedding day WITHOUT makeup?
My fiancee has a problem where make-up upsets their Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, but I want to look good on my wedding day. I'm willing to go make-up free but how do I look great without wearing any make-up?-
ANSWER:
Make sure to eat healthy, work out/take care of your body/drink a lot of water prior to the big day
Invest in some good skin care products so that your skin will be clear. I would also say that if you want a nice glow, go spray tanning - as it isn't makeup yet it'll almost work as a foundation in a way. Does lip chap count as makeup? Well, if it does, then don't wear it on your wedding day but the week before apply it every night before you go to bed so your lips will be smooth and moist. If you have oily skin, start using an oil-control lotion and if you have dry skin purchase a moisturizer that provides a lot of moisture. Go and get your eyebrows waxed before the wedding, get your nails done.
Hope this helps, and congrats!

QUESTION:
What should I do for wedding makeup?
I am struggling to decide whether or not to have my makeup professionally done for my wedding. I want it to look nice, but, I can't see paying someone to do it since I do know how to put makeup on. I was thinking of going to a makeup counter or store and having a beauty consult done and going from there. I think it would be cheaper, but I'm not sure. Also, some of my bridesmaids are "makeup deficient" if you will. Should I have them go on consults too?
Ok, another thing is I usually wear Bare Minerals for my makeup. I like that it isn't heavy and just evens out my skin. But, it doesn't give the best coverage. Should I go with something that provides more coverage for the wedding day? I just don't want that "caked on" look.-
ANSWER:
I had the same 'wedding' problem just it was with my hair
I have a good sence of beauty but on my wedding I decided to try something more special and went to the hairdresser
She started to make some 'special' things but at the middle of the process I decided I didnt like my hair - that was not me at all. I jumped up and said I dint like it that way.If you just could see my hairdressers eyes."What are you going to do now?" asked she. "I am going to wet my hair and do something that I will feel comfortable with." was my answer
I bet shed never had another bride like me on the chair
So I went home, stood before the mirror and although averybody arround me was in a hurry I really enjoyed doing my hair. On my wedding day one of my aunts asked WHERE THEY HAD DONE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL HAIRSTYLE FOR ME!!! Heres the conclusion : whatever you do, if you feel comfortable with yourself, everybody will think youre just perfect!!!
So if you are good at make up, then you have an already formed taste for what suits you. If you think you dont understand how to do it, than anything would do just fine for you
In your case, however, its more likely for you to cope better yourself than anybody elese on your own face. May be there are some good make up artists who would do really better but is your wedding the time for experiments?! Or at least go for a test make up several days before the event.Youve mentioned the words 'paying' and 'cheapper'. If money is a problem for you, then you put priorities first. As I feel by reading your question you will do just fine with your own make up. Go for it. I did my make up alone and I felt briliantly on my wedding. I knew what I wanted and it was all that mattered.
About your bridesmaids...may be you could organize a make up artist for them before the wedding, after they get dressed, and give him/her your opinion on how you would like them to be done (heavier or liter make ups, what colors...etc) Then let this person do it for them. If expensive, ask some talented friend to do it for you as a wedding present. Your girls will feel special because you have brought a make up profecionalist especially for them and you will feel comfortable that they are ok on your wedding ...and the wedding pictures will be fine
As for the type of the make up - make some experiments on your face beforehand if you need anything ask some friends to land you something. You will see the difference in between the materials yourself - you have a taste - you said :"I dont want to look like..." Thats enough

QUESTION:
Wedding Makeup that would look good on me?
http://s773.photobucket.com/albums/yy18/kaciex3/
I'm wondering cause im getting married in 7 months. and I need ideas!
im just looking for ideas.. im not like planning. just looking for ideas.-
ANSWER:
Your best bet would be to start looking around for wedding makeup artists in your area that you might want to hire for the wedding. Look at their work and get an idea of what you like. Then when you contact them in a few months to see about a consultation/trial and hiring them them they'll be able to help you out the best. Or go to sephora and talk to the people who work there. If you're doing your own make up go to one of the department stores in the mall and let them work on you. The best way to know what will look good on you is to try things out on you. Best of luck.

QUESTION:
What do you wear to a wedding (& makeup)? (Females)?
I was wondering what clothes to wear to a weding and what makeup as I haven't been to a wedding since i was little and i can't remember what sort of things i should wear. It's a daytime casual wedding in may and i'm 17 years old with brown eyes and a caramel skin tone.
I want to look nice but feel comfortable and the same with makeup.
-
ANSWER:
Although it says casual i would still want to wear a dress to a wedding. Maybe you could wear like a halter dress with flip flops. Maybe have the dress have floral print or a nice teal, yellow, or dark pink color. For the makeup, maybe just have earthy tones or a shimmery bronze/gold eye shadow with some mascara and a little bit of eyeliner. Then coverup if needed. Hope i helped

QUESTION:
what makeup should i wear for my wedding?
does anyone have any suggestions on which type of makeup would be good for my wedding..i really dont wear foundation but i will want to for the wedding. I am looking for something that will last all day and look nice in pictures.. the octs really doesnt matter. thanks in advance!-
ANSWER:
Wedding make-up can be done without looking "done." Just because wedding make-up requires a heavier hand (thank to professional photography because your features get washed out) doesn't mean that you end up not looking like yourself.I suggest you walk into a department store or someplace like Sephora and go to the make-up counter and have them give you a make-over/lesson. If you see someone whose make-up you like, go to that person.
* You'll need to even out skin tone with some foundation or tinted moisturizer depending on your skin.
* Concealer to cover up any spots if necessary and maybe to lighten dark circles.
* Blush to add contour because the photography will wash you out.
* Eye make-up. Eyeshadow, liner and mascara.
* Lipstick - long-wearing is great for the big day. You apply once and just apply gloss when necessary throughout the day.
* When choosing colors, choose colors that compliment you best and are natural. There is no need to experiment with bright, trendy colors on your wedding day.If you choose to do your make-up yourself, you can head over to the MAC counter. They are incredibly helpful and have great products for your wedding day. Their make-up lasts all day and with the proper application you will look great without being overly done.

QUESTION:
I want to do my own wedding makeup?
i have max factor second skin foundation but i want to find something reasonably good and kind of cheap. I want the foundation to glide on have good coverage and that sits well with a powder founation after a liquid foundation. I want to look good on my wedding day and being passionate about makeup, makeup is the important part other than the dress.Hope you guys can help and thank you so much for your time
-
ANSWER:
I do quite a bit of bridal make-up and have not been satisfied with the way any of the drugstore foundations last through the day, since no one wants to be touching up all day, the best I have found is Make Up Forever liquid foundation set well with Clinique loose powder then the whole face set with Ben Nye Final Seal, MAC Fix+ works OK, but Final Seal makes the whole face almost waterproof. MUF foundation is a bit costly, but it last very well, I would think any higher end liquid foundation would work well, but as I said, i have tried many drugstore brands and have either had them melt the day of requiring touching up all day long or they came out blotchy and off-tone in photos. If you have anymore questions feel free to message me, and congrats on the wedding

QUESTION:
Hair & makeup for somewhat destination wedding?
I'm getting married in January near Mount Rainier (Washington) and I'm wondering what I should do about my hair and makeup. The wedding location is not very close to...anything really. I could drive 2 hours and get everything done in Seattle but being the middle of Winter, I'd prefer to stay on location (if the wedding). What can I do?I thought maybe visiting some makeup counters and getting some looks I could recreate myself could work. Any other suggestions?
-
ANSWER:
Hi there! And congrats! I am actually getting married in three weeks (ahhh!) and I have a similar issue. My locale is off the beaten path (not as rustic as yours, but it would be quite a drive to get my makeup and hair done, too). I found a whole slew of hair and makeup artists who specialize in coming to the bride to perform wedding and makeup services. I am going with one of these since I would rather not drive the morning of the wedding. However, they don't come cheap. So, you can do a trial run at a makeup counter or if you have a friend who is great at makeup and hair, approach her. Key products for the big day: Primer (so everything stays put), a great moisturizer (esp. since your wedding is during the cold season), fake eyelashes (to make your peepers pop), blotting paper (for when you start to look oily). Hope this is of help to you!

QUESTION:
where can i find a makeup artist for my wedding near cincinnati ohio?
I have no idea even where to look. I was thinking like the makeup counters in malls but I don't know how well going to a busy mall would work out on my wedding day.
Any help would be great!-
ANSWER:
As a Cincinnatian, I know my wife tends to think that the Mitchell's salons are very good. They are high end, have several locations throughout the City (including Tri County, West Chester, and more), and will do a very good job for you- much better than someone at the makeup counter at the mall. You could get anything else done there that you might want to do as well- hair, manicure, massage, whatever. Good luck on your big day!

QUESTION:
Wedding makeup - Good brands to use?
I'm doing my own makeup for my wedding. I'd like it to look natural but also a nice glow about it. Any good brands of foundation ect that I can get that with or any tips?-
ANSWER:
As a professional makeup artist for over 20 years I highly recommend bee luscious cosmetics. For an all day no touch up needed look use their pore perfecting face primer and liquid to powder minerals foundation it will hold 18+ hours like a champ. Set the foundation with either the new HydraRadiance loose mineral powder or the mineral pressed powder. You will thank old Ramone for this
As for makeup they have so much to choose from I would contact their specialists for suggestions they are all makeup artists. I have been using their products for over 3 years and all my brides and clients in general RAVE about the products.

Its also all over you tube with amazing reviews you can look up as well.

QUESTION:
How do I go about finding/hiring someone to do my makeup for my wedding?
I dont wear much makeup on a daily basis. Just eyeliner. But for my wedding I want to be all done up. I dont know how to find someone or where to start. My wedding is in December. I dont know anyone that's really good with makeup, so id have to hire someone. Do they do a trial run so I could see what it will look like first? Im confused...please help.-
ANSWER:
Don't sweat a thing. There are a number of different locations you could try. But the one I would recommend is to do a Google search for MAC in your location, once you've located one, take a trip and tell the make artist what you want. Or you can ask one of the artist if they do make up work outside of MAC, most do. From there ask them what the rates are. That's one way, I'm sure there are a thousand more but that will get you in the right direction.

QUESTION:
How much should I charge to do makeup for a wedding?
I'm 17 and I'm a self taught/still learning freelance makeup artist.
Please don't let my age confuse you, I don't just buy crap makeup and throw it on my or anyone else's face. I'm sorry if that sounded rude D:You can look at my facebook page if you'd like to see my work http://www.facebook.com/nikki.nightmare93 Just look at the "Makeup Looks" Album in my photos.
So back to the task at hand. My friend is having a wedding in March, and she needs someone to do makeup for her and her bridal party.I told her I'd do it just for free, but she insists that I get paid a good amount of cash. So! With that said, I was wondering how I should charge her. I don't want to seem like I'm taking her money, but I don't want to get paid like I work at McDonald's either! lol (:
The type of makeup I own ranges anywhere from 1-14.50 per eyeshadow. I have some MAC stuff, some Sugarpill, some E.L.F. and some other local brands as well.
Through my research I've found that some people charge for the price of what makeup they use, by the number of people there is, the amount of hours they'll be working. Or some people have fixed rates, and then add a combination of those things. I'm just really not sure. Any help and/or advice would be great (: Thanks so much
~Nikki-
ANSWER:
