Lose The Weight Before Your Big Day

Wedding Photographer

Trying to decide on the perfect Toronto wedding photographer can be a dreary task due to all the options that are available to choose from, and not to forget that it is a pressurizing, yet essential factor involved while making plans for your wedding. An experienced photographer is the only one who can treasure the memories of this day through pictures that clearly portray the mixture of emotions running around; these picture-perfect memories will always last between friends and families as mementos of a blissful day.

After reading the following wedding photography Toronto guide, you will really save your nerves and time for your other important tasks for this memorable event.

Toronto Wedding Photographer: 4 Easy Ways to Choose the Perfect Photographer

1) Browse the Internet

In order to pursue photographers, all you need to do is visit their websites which are accessible online, and use just the click of your mouse to see the records of all available photographers and their collection of past works. By making a selection through this medium, you will be able to save a lot of the valued time that can be used for other preparations for this memorable day.

2) Request for Advice

It would also help if you could ask some of your close relatives and friends about photographers, that is if they have had any previous experiences with them. Another way to go about it is to ask other married couples who have been photographed by a professional, one that has also caught your attention.

3) Look Out for Prices

There are a wide range of charges for Wedding Photography in Toronto. Firstly, take out a budget for the photographer and find out how much he is usually paid by normal couples. It would be best if you opted for the package deals which offer various discounts rather than choosing individual options that tend to be more costly. However, make sure you do not end up spending money good enough just to hire a cheap photographer: the quality of the pictures will definitely be a reflection of this.

4) Getting In-tune with the Photographer

It is necessary to hold a private meeting with the photographer you are planning on hiring in order to form a sort of compatibility so that he can measure up to your requirements. After all, the photographer will be the one going all around the venue snapping pictures of this memorable Toronto wedding. This way, the photographs will have a natural quality to them and look attractive as well. Thus, looking back at these pictures will bring a smile on your face when you see how your new life began.

Conclusion

In order to get the best Toronto wedding photographer, make sure you refer to these easy to follow steps so that at the end of the day you have no regrets as to the documentation of your big day. These memories will be with you for rest of your life so make sure you get the right photographer to capture the start of your future.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    Wedding Photographer?
I have no idea what a Wedding Photographer costs. Can anyone give me a rough estimate? I live in Oklahoma if that helps.

    • ANSWER:
Photographer's prices vary greatly, esp depending on the area you live in. When I looked at different photographers, this is *generally* what I found to be true:

-Under 00 is very basic - low quality; don't expect any extras or major creativity. Standard posed pictures. Probably has not had any formal training or much experience.

-00-00 is a good middle ground. You'll find experienced photographers with creativity & a good eye. They will probably use a 'photojournalistic' approach which has become very popular. It means less posey pictures more of capturing the day as it occurs; some posed pictures but they look more natural.

-Anything above 00 to me is just ridiculous unless it includes absolutely everything (proofs, unlimited time, albums, engagement session, etc.) These photographers will definately have their own style of photography; very creative; highest quality.

**Your best bet is to search photographers in your area & compare what they charge to what they offer (as far as packages). I live in the Atlanta area & found an extremely talented photographer for 95. Don't go overboard in this area but don't skimp either...after your wedding day ends you'll only have the pictures left! Good luck

  2. QUESTION:
    Wedding photographer?
Is there any way to hire a wedding photographer and just pay for the electronic prints and print them ourselves own cost? I just don't see the point in having them print a 0 album that I could do myself for much cheaper. How much on average is a good photographer?

    • ANSWER:
A wedding photographer is akin to any contracted provider of professional services. What is the hourly contract rate for a mechanic? A programmer? An Electrician? Probably anywhere from 0-175 per hour.

How many hours will the photographer be working? 4-8+ hours on the day of the wedding. 2 hours for an engagement shoot. 2 hours to meet with the client. 1-minute per image for post production (download, adjustments, etc.) at 1,000 - 4,000 images per event. Travel time...

I beg to differ from the previous answerer; taking the photos is not "the easy part." Shooting weddings is hard work, generally speaking. Sure, some weddings are easy, but the tough ones far outnumber the easy ones. A wedding is outwardly a happy, special day. Inwardly, it's very stressful. I now very good photographers who wouldn't shoot a wedding at any price. Then you've got the skill factor; you said a "good photographer." As in, someone who can shoot creatively and artistically - not just a friend of your uncle Joe taking snapshots of the event.

Quality photography equipment is very expensive. Camera body: 00; 3-4 lenses: 00 each; Flash: 0; computer: 00, fast storage cards, archival storage, camera bag, tripod, batteries, back-up body, back-up flash. You get my point. The photographer has to pay for all this equipment.

When is your wedding? Summer is peak season. Would it surprise me to see a photographer adjust pricing by season, much like a hotel? Not at all.

How personable do you expect your photographer to be? You will spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than your spouse. If the guy is good, he'll know how to work the family and guests. Otherwise, a poor photographer will be unorganized, and you will not get all the shots you want.

Does a "good photographer" want his name on a sub-par product? In other words, your photographer will use a professional lab for prints and will maximize the quality of his work, whereas if you take the CD down to Wal-Mart, the quality of the prints will be less than the highest-possible quality.

A wedding photographer is an area of your wedding where you will probably get what you pay for.

A 0 wedding dress vs. a ,000 wedding dress will not be as good of a long term investment as the difference between a 0 photographer and a ,000 photographer, generally speaking. That's not to say you should go spend ,000 on the first photographer you can find, and that kind of price doesn't guarantee you a good photographer, but on average....

Hope this helps you in making your decision.

  3. QUESTION:
    wedding photographer?
i want to be a wedding photographer but i was wondering do u need go to college for it? is it 100 % necessary?

    • ANSWER:
Not necessarily... Start taking your own photos of friends and family in a more professional way... And invest in a really nice camera... Make a portfolio and spread the word... It will definitely take time and patience... But it will help get your foot in the door.

  4. QUESTION:
If my wedding photographer brings an assistant, and they were not in the contract, should I get those pictures?
My wedding photographer brought an assistant, who was not listed in the contract. We had no prior knowledge of them coming, but on my wedding day they were there also taking pictures alongside my photographer. Now my photographer says their assistant won't give them the pictures. Isn't that part of the contract, since the main photographer brought them along?

    • ANSWER:
Pictures taken at your wedding are considered a 'private' event and therefore you own the 'rights to your image'.

Get the name of the assistant(s) and send a letter 'notarized', stating that "no selling, printing or publishing of any and all photographic images taken at a private event, notably Wedding of Jane Doe and John Doe, on 'date' and 'location', without the prior written consent of any and all parties involved. Send the letter via registered mail and keep the receipt.

Read your contract carefully to determine what is specified as the 'photographers obligation'.

      Good Luck

  5. QUESTION:
What attribute of your wedding photographer did you most enjoy & most dislike?
I'm soon to be doing wedding photography as a business, and I was wondering what aspects of your wedding photographer that you liked/disliked. Any other comments & suggestions would be appreciated too.

    • ANSWER:
I work in NYC Wedding photography and I can tell you that you have to pour your heart and soul into the images. Really try to provide a boutique attentive service, help review their schedule for good photography, and get to know them through an engagement session before the weddings. After you have connected to the couple, it makes the pictures much easy to take and you will find yourself being very creative. Also, give them Hi-res files without watermarks. Many couple get annoyed that they pay for photos and then find out they don't get hi-res disks. Good luck with your new business.

  6. QUESTION:
How do I find a wedding photographer to assist?
Everyone recommends that I follow or assist a professional wedding photographer for a year or so before attempting on my own, but how do I come in touch with one? How do I ask them? Is this something that photographers are annoyed by? I would think not many would want someone getting in their way while they are trying to work.

    • ANSWER:
I would try and find photographers not directly in your area. This way more photographer are likely top take you on as they wont see you as future competition. You may have to assist for free and make it clear you are iwlling to carry there bags, run around after them and do what ever it takes to get the experience. Assisting is a must before yu try and shoot a wedding.

Contact as many photographers as you can. Try joining some photography forums or groups as thats often a great place to start. And have a look at http://www.wedding-photographer-advice.co.uk/ for more tips

  7. QUESTION:
How should an American photographer go about getting wedding business in Ireland?
I am an American children's and wedding photographer. I would love to shoot a wedding (actually many weddings!) in Ireland, but I am not sure how to go about advertising. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Well before you look into advertising & all that you have to look into how you can legally work in Ireland. You had said you were American rather than someone holding dual American & an EU nation citizenship so as such you do not have automatic rights to work. Look into this first, it would be terrible to spend lots of money on advertising only to find out you couldn't do it!

If you are only planning on going over occasionally to shoot rather than moving over completely it may not be to bad but definitely for your own sake look into it first.

      Good luck!

  8. QUESTION:
How much does the average wedding photographer cost?
My wedding photographer has had a heart attack so i am frantically trying to find someone for my wedding on 7th August. With only less than a month i don't have a great deal of time to research for best prices.
How much does the average wedding photographer cost for say the ceremony and evening event? Also i don't suppose you can recommend anyone in the Surrey area could you?!!!
    Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
Anywhere from 0 to 00. But we're in a tough economy right now.

Many photographers are willing to wheel and deal.

Ask that the original proof CD be submitted to you as part of the *contract*.

Also, see if you can assign a friend with a laptop, empty external hard disk, and memory card reader so that the photos taken can be downloaded at the end of the event.

If not, then you should state in the contract that the *original* digital files in RAW format are to be burned to CD, not weak JPEG thumbnail shots.

Ask that all rights to the photos be totally released to you.

State in the contract that 60% down payment will be made but the remaining balance will be given when the goods are received.

      Wedding Flowers

      The selection process of your wedding flowers will usually begin with a discussion of the Bride's bouquet. You will have a choice of several basic styles. These are cascade, crescent, contemporary, nosegay, hand tied bouquet and arm or presentation style. You can better prepare for your first meeting with your florist if you bring the following;

o A list of those in your wedding party that will need flowers.

o A list of what flowers you will want at the ceremony.

o A list of what flowers will be needed at the reception, including table count, size and shape.

      o Color/fabric swatches and pictures...

      Choose wisely. Good luck!

  9. QUESTION:
What is the average cost of a wedding photographer package?
I'm doing a project for school and I have to plan a wedding. Can anyone help me out with how much a wedding photographer costs on average and how much it would cost to have the photos be put on a computer disc and a wedding album?

    • ANSWER:
I would recommend you google local ones to your area.
They can change SO MUCH based on location.

For example in my home town, Brisbane QLD the average cost is 00. Cheap ones are 00, Awesome ones are 00.

I have just moved to rural VIC, the average cost is 00. Awesome ones range from 00-5000.

It also depends on what you want in your package? I will probably be paying 00 for an awesome rural photographer, because all I want is the digitals. That said I am paying more because I want full coverage of reception until midnight. I would pay more if I want the photographers to do up photo albums, enlargements, canvases etc.

  10. QUESTION:
Can the Photographer use a flash during the wedding ceremony?
My fiance and I disagree on this. He thinks the wedding photographer SHOULD be able to use his flash during the wedding ceremony while I think it is tacky and rude. We dont have much time to recreate the ceremony after its over b/c we have very limited time at reception (morning wedding/ afternoon lunch @ Maggianos.. have to be out by 4pm sharp) What is proper etiquette?

    • ANSWER:
it depends on the venue and if flash photography is even allowed in the church at all.

for the most part--religious ceremonies will not allow flash photograpy during the ceremony. It's disrespectful and distracting. Some won't allow any photos w/ or w/o a flash to be made during the ceremony. and some won't allow cameras in the church at all for any reason. So check with your church.

if cameras are allowed in the church, oftentimes once the ceremony is over, the photographer will stage a few ceremony shots so he/she can use the flash if it's needed.

  11. QUESTION:
How long should I book the wedding photographer for, and how much will your recommendation cost?
I'm looking at wedding photographer costs and many charge according to how much time they will be there for. How long do people recommend and how much should that cost? I don't need the getting ready pics, its a catholic wedding (mass), and we have the reception venue for 5 hours and I haven't figured out how much time to put between the ceremony and reception (advice on this would be appreciated as well). Any thoughts on how long?

    • ANSWER:
We are probably going to pay 00-00 for 3-5 hours, and it's a really hefty package in terms of what we get (portraits, prints, proof album, CD and licensing). I figured we'd just get pictures for the ceremony, and then the key moments at the reception and send them on their way. We'd like pictures of the rest of the day too but we are perfectly capable of taking those sorts of shots ourselves, when you're on a budget you really only need a professional for the key moments and portraits if you want them. Your relatives with digital cameras I'm sure would happily supplement your professional shots for your wedding album.

My parents don't have any wedding pictures but a portrait of them together after the ceremony, and one of my older sister who was the flower girl. They hang together in our family room and they've never lamented about it, the amount of photos you need really depends on you.

  12. QUESTION:
How would I become a wedding photographer?
I am eighteen years old, and I have a love of photography. I also love weddings and therefore being a wedding photographer would be an ideal career for me. However, I do not know what is needed in order to accomplish this goal.

    • ANSWER:
      get a camera

  13. QUESTION:
What should I look for when choosing a wedding photographer?
I'm deciding on a wedding photographer and I've looked at a few sites and there are heaps of great photos so I'm finding it hard to choose one particular photographer to go with. Do you think personal recommendations are best or should I think more about price or should I choose the photographer with the best pictures? Or should I meet a few and choose whoever has the best vibe?

    • ANSWER:
Personal recommendations, pictures you love at the right price are all relevant factors. Here's what I would look for:

      1. Experience: an enormous amount of photographers and studios out there have only been shooting "professionally" for less than five years. There's been an incredible saturation of the wedding photographer market of people who bought a decent camera at Best Buy with no other experience and are now "professional photographers."

Photographers with many weddings under their belt as well as shooters with experience in daily newspapers or magazines are wonderful choices for wedding photographers.

      2. Integrity: check their references and make sure they live up to their promises. Make sure they deliver their product and service on time. Either they have no integrity or no qualifications, too many photographers get in over their head and start hosing clients.

      3. Likeability: the right photographer for your wedding will make great pictures AND do so in a way that makes your wedding day even better. Are they courteous? Do they seem interested in you enough to ask questions? How do they handle pressure situations? You need someone who works efficiently, stays calm and polite and can deliver a professional result in situations that are often less than ideal.

      4. Education: The vast majority of wedding photographers have no formal training in photography. Look for photographers with some kind of education in photography.

      5. Price: Especially these days it's a big deal. Ten years after your wedding you're not going to be concerned how much you spent on photography, you are going to concerned about the quality of your pictures. With that in mind, don't you think it is better to pay more than you expected rather than less than you should?

  14. QUESTION:
How much would you pay for a wedding photographer?
If you were about to have your dream wedding, and you were to hire a professional wedding photographer... How much would you pay?

    • ANSWER:
I paid 00. This includes all day long photography. She will be there at 8am for our pedicures and stay until my fiance and I leave the reception at 11pm that night. There will be two photographers on site all day. A male who follows the groom and his party all day and a woman who follows me and my party all day. Then they will both photograph the ceremony and reception. I get every picture they take fully edited on a CD with copyrights waived. Therefore I will every picture edited from my day to do whatever I want with them. In addition I am getting a coffee table flush mount album for about . So total ,075. I got a steal.

  15. QUESTION:
What is better: to hire a private wedding photographer or the one from a big photograhy studio?
I am planning a wedding and looking for a photographer, have even met with some, but still cant decide if I should be looking at some big studios suggested by Davids Bridal, or go with some private small studios with one or two photographers? What is your experience people? Whats better?

  16. QUESTION:
How much should you spend on a wedding photographer?
How much should we be spending on a wedding photographer??? We have an overall budget of about £12000. We'd love some really beautiful, classy keepsakes of our big day but are unsure of what sort of price is right and also do photographers have to be qualified or can anybody just do it? How do we know if they're any good??? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Try to take a look to these photographers portfolio:

      http://www.joannedunn.it/

They did a greate job for my wedding.

  17. QUESTION:
how much does a wedding photographer charge for a beginning assignment?
i am thinking of getting into wedding photoghaphy. i shoot film because i love it. i have medium format as well 35mm. how much can a photographer charge with no experience in wedding photography.
oh by the way, i meant love film versus digital.

    • ANSWER:
I think you are going about this the wrong way. OK, so you shoot film because you "love it". But what is it going to cost you to buy the film, get it processed, get prints (proofs made) and deliver finished prints? What are your travel expenses? Will you need an assistant? How long will you shoot for for your fee? 2 hours, 4 hours....from the time she wakes up in the morning until the happy couple leaves the reception?

Before you do anything you need to know what is your cost of doing business! 0 may sound like a lot of money but if it costs you 5 for film, travel, processing, proofs and prints and 5 hours of shooting time plus a few more hours coordinating the proofs and then a few more hours finding the negs and ordering the final prints and delivering to the bride you're working near minimum wage. (And that doesn't even cover the cost of reprints because she doesn't like the strand of hair that is across her forehead in the bride's portrait.)

I would also agree with a previous answer...see if you can assist on a wedding with a professional photographer and see if you even want to get into the business. There are a lot of skills required beyond photography. Dealing with "difficult" people, technical lighting issues, and just the physical demands of the job could make you change your mind.

Wedding photography is a business and it has to be treated that way. You are there to capture moments. You are constantly searching for "the little things" that make each wedding unique. What worked last weekend won't work now because you are in a different church, with a different bride, at a different time of day.

That said, no one can tell you what to charge. You have determine what your costs will be and what amount of profit for your work you're willing to work for. Since you have no experience I would look at a a bride "taking a significant chance" on you as a reason for her to ask for a deep discount on your services. Make sure that you spell out exactly what she will receive for your fee. The number of hours of coverage must be defined. Will there be a minimum number of prints? What shots "must" be made? Get 1/2 of your fee to book the date. (this is non-refundable) I would suggest getting 1/4 two weeks before the wedding and the final 1/4 on delivery of the prints.

Good luck if you choose to go this route. There is money to be made but it isn't any easy business.

  18. QUESTION:
How long should you hire a wedding photographer for?
My wedding is coming up in October of this year and we have decided on hiring a photographer. We are unsure of how long we should hire them for. It ranges from 4 hours to 8 hours. Any suggestions on how much time is enough time?
Wedding ceremony and reception are at the same place. We start getting ready around 3PM and I walk down the aisle at 5PM. The reception goes till 11PM which is a full 8 hours.

    • ANSWER:
We had our photographer for about 6 hours. He covered us getting ready, took pictures of the bridesmaids and groomsmen, some pre-wedding shenanigans, the ceremony, post-ceremony group pictures with various family members, and the reception from our entrance through cake-cutting. The one thing that he didn't get was the bouquet/garter toss which I would have liked. However, our families took these pictures and they got some great shots nonetheless.

Let him know and he will be able to best help you; you may wish to arrange your time table so some events happen earlier in the evening (such as moving the cake cutting and bouquet/garter toss closer together--ours were about an hour apart and he left in between the two) so everything can be covered while still being budget conscious.

  19. QUESTION:

  21. QUESTION:
How to handle wedding photographer not complying with contract?
We live in the U.S. and got married in the UK last year and have yet to receive all that we were promised (and contracted) by our wedding photographer. We received prints but we were supposed to get the file of all the photos on CD with copyrights and a DVD of our photos put to music we chose along with a couple points of video throughout the day. What should we do next? He will not answer our calls or emails. We are to the point of hiring a solicitor to either get our money back or hopefully get what we paid for.

    • ANSWER:
He probably thinks because your in the US you can't touch him... i would hire a solicitor first of all i think if you were to hire 1 in the UK that would have more impact and they know our laws etc.. if you go to www.yell.com (yellow pages) you should find a solicitor and normally you get your 1st hour free. Depending on how much money you have handed over i would imagine this would go to a small claims court. I have never had to deal with small claims court before and i am not sure whether you would need to be there but a solicitor would tell you all that. Also if you like you can contact the Citizen's Advice www.citizensadvice.org.uk and they give you advice for free.
      Good Luck x

  22. QUESTION:
Where can I find a cheap photographer for a small wedding?
I need a wedding photographer that has a good reputation and cheap. My wedding is going to be small, just 25 people including the wedding party. I have everything together but the photographer. I just want pictures of my future husband, son and I. I would also like pictures of us at the alter and me walking down the aisle. The reception will be photographed by the guest with disposable cameras. I thought that would be a good idea to keep the cost down. What should I do?

  23. QUESTION:
How does a person become a wedding photographer?
I've decided to become a wedding photographer after i graduate high school but i don't know where to start any advice ?

    • ANSWER:
Congratulations on deciding to be a wedding photographer, what a awesome career.

First you will need to buy camera equipment you can start with a entry level slr camera such as a canon xs or a nikon d40 with kit lens , battery grip, & external flash if you choose canon 430ex ii if you choose nikon sb600, many extra batteries & memory cards
( when you get more money buy a backup camera body it's very important when being a wedding photographer)
Focus on learning your camera inside & out learn how to shoot in manual mode, aperture priority mode & shutter mode

There are many options with photography training after you graduate from high school here are a few links to schools online:
      http://www.aionline.edu/Photography
      http://online.academyart.edu/photography.html

If you want to go straight into photography after you graduate then working for other seasoned photographers is your best option..

In my opinion getting hands on experience & training under a experienced photography is better than school. School gets you all the technical skills needed but I would say 70% of wedding photographers are self taught

I don't recommend trying to do weddings on your own until you know weddings inside & out , until you understand proper lighting indoor locations, outdoor locations, shooting in harsh sun, shooting at sunset, shooting on overcast day , shooting a wedding at church without flash etc

You can also start getting experience with photography by offering free shoots to models & shoot at different times of the day to learn lighting, you can even try going into churches etc to understand low lighting it isn't the same as the wedding day but it gives you a start ..
The wedding day is fast paced & the lighting changes constantly

I would advice you start researching your area for wedding photographers & take a look at their work & find the photographers work that you really love & contact them & tell them you are interested in working as a assistant or a intern

Robin Padilla considers writing to the Vatican to pursue Catholic wedding with wife Mariel Rodriguez

(SPOT.ph) Muslim action star Robin Padilla said he is considering writing to the Vatican to push for a Catholic wedding with wife Mariel Rodriguez, reports PEP.ph.

The news comes after former Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz said the Church will not allow the couple to wed in Catholic rites because some provisions of Padilla's religion contradict with those of the Catholic Church, namely the provision that allows Muslim men to be married to more than one woman at a time.

Padilla told Paparazzi in an episode which aired Sunday, "Kasi kung ang pagbabasehan natin ay 'yong mga...

If I were you I would even try to see if you can go & observe at a few weddings so you can see how the photographer works how a wedding flows etc

You need to be willing to work under someone for at least a few years loyalty is the best key to learning the most from the photographer you work under if you show loyalty they will teach you the in's and outs and if they like you enough they may even promote you into a associate photographer position which is almost like having your own company

Most people don't realize having a wedding photography business is great but there is taxes, insurance, advertising, rent, etc
Being a wedding photographer is very rewarding & a fun job to have but there are so many key factors to being a successful photographer

Remember weddings are a very important day in someones life it only comes once so before you jump out there with your own company learn photography & gain experience

I am getting married in a year and I was wondering what the common cost is today for a wedding photographer.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:

  26. QUESTION:
What qualifications does a wedding photographer need ?
I'm doing my GCSE's now, and i'd like to be a wedding photographer. I heard that you have to take Maths for A-Level, is that true? Also, what other qualifications do i need ?

    • ANSWER:
Actually it's the reverse of what the last person said (not that it was wrong, but I'm just rearranging it for emphasis):

Talent, experience, and a good camera.

Experience by far surpasses any degree as long as you are pulling out great images. I know lots of people with degrees who still can't produce great images Also I've seen people with 50 so called years of experience who also can't produce great images.

I'm not too familiar with the UK style of teaching (which I believe GCSE's are from), but are needed for secondary education. If you plan to go to college, which I would recommend, then you would probably have to take math. Which is probably irrelevant to photography, not that you don't need it, but it is more important for the secondary education purposes.

I'd suggest following a studio photographer, or shadowing a wedding photographer in your area if you plan to go into it. I'm sure you are still a teen? Which would probably give you a heads up on other people your age if you begin working on a portfolio now.

      Good luck.

  27. QUESTION:
How do I figure out who is a good wedding photographer?
I keep hearing that I need to find a good wedding photographer for my wedding in October 2010, but I don't know how to figure out who is a good one and who isn't.

What should I be looking for?

    • ANSWER:
Well, you should look at their pictures first. Most photographers have websites, just Google "yourcity, statehere wedding photographer". Based on this you can decide if you're looking for a regular photographer or the photojournalism twist. Photojournalists take more non-posed pictures... they try to get you when you're not thinking about being photographed. They will take posed pictures for you, but they won't want to spend hours doing so. They'll take a lot of pictures while you're getting ready, during the ceremony, and during the reception.

You'll find package prices on the website too. This will give you an idea of where you should put your budget. Around here, I can find a not so great photographer for 0, and I can find a super expensive photographer for 00! But the good, reasonable photographers fall into the 00-00 range.

You have to decide if you want the photographer to send you a big package of actually printed photographs or if you want to be able to print your own. If you want to be able to print your own, you'll need a photographer that gives you all the copyrights to your photos in the package you purchase and will provide them either online or on a CD.

Once you have a few in your area that you like and fit in your price range, you can start interviewing them. There's lots of wedding planners online which include a questionnarie on what to ask each vendor during an interview. You can google that too.

      Good luck!

  28. QUESTION:
How can I start a 'business' of becoming a wedding photographer?
I have recently shot my fiance's brothers wedding and it was perfect. The job, the adrenaline, the pictures (and of course the wedding!). I want to do this more, to create a business from this experience. Where do I get started though? I have already asked family members to keep me mind if anyone asks about a wedding photographer, but what else do I do? I'm on a tight budget so I can't create a website (yet anyway) though I do have a portfolio printed I can show. Any tips?

    • ANSWER:
That is exactley what I did four years ago.

First off get a business license, its important to be legal.

Second advertise on free listings like Craig's list

Third get a myspace page that is free and you can display your work there until you can get something else together.

Fourth find an album vendor that you like, its important to have products like album selections to display your work for meetings. I use albumsinc.com

Fifth have fun and enjoy it, its a great way to make a living

As the money comes in you can expand into local listings on yahoo and google if you still do not have a website.

By the way, a website can cost under 100 dollars if you buy a template from template monster and have a little html knowledge.

One last thing: sierrabride.com and partypop.com offer free vendor listing. There are dozens of sites that take free listings for photographers just google search wedding photography in your region and the look through for free vendor listings. Good luck!

  29. QUESTION:
How do I become a Wedding Photographer?
I recently had this great idea to become a wedding photographer...probably something to do with my Adobe Photoshop class. How do I do this? Do I need a degree? How does one start with it...should I offer to take pictures of my friend's weddings? Do I need a dark room?

Any info from someone in the field would be appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
You don't have to go to college to be a wedding photographer but you still have to learn photography. Plus you need the right camera equipment to shoot weddings be it film or digital. No you don't have to have a darkroom for this, let a professional lab do that work. My suggestion as others have mentioned do not do your friends wedding as the main photographer if something goes wrong she will not be very pleased with you.

If you have a passion for photography then start reading about the technical aspects of photography and then applying what you have learned and going out and shooting. Take notes learn from your mistakes and try not to make them again, ask a couple of professional photographers to look at your work and learn to take criticism good or bad.

To get your foot in the door you could start by getting a part time job with a photographer and being an assistant or / and working in a photo lab.

      Hope this helps,
      Kevin

  30. QUESTION:
Can anybody recommend a wedding photographer in Brisbane?
I've been looking around for a wedding photographer but i cant seem to find anyone good. They all seem to just want money and not care bout the customers. Also I'm on a budget so yea. So can anyone recommend a cheap but good photographer? Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
My partner and I have experienced how difficult it is to find good wedding photographers. The first photographer didn't listen to what we wanted and was up selling his work from a minimum of 00 to 00+.

By chance we found that someone that worked at the same company as my partner had a part-time photography business,

  31. QUESTION:
Who is the best wedding photographer in Las Vegas?
I am getting married in June 2012 and want to book the best Las Vegas wedding photographer for my wedding. Who have you used and who would you recommend?

    • ANSWER:
Most people consider Las Vegas Wedding Photographer Deidra Wilson ( http://www.deidrawilson.com/ ) to be the best in Las Vegas. She shot my wedding and is an absolute dream to work with if you can book her. There are some budget options out there but you get what you pay for with them. Good luck with planning your wedding!

  32. QUESTION:
Is it ok to have more than one wedding photographer at my wedding?
Help!!! I cant seem to choose between the two photographers that I have. Was just wondering if its ok to have more than one wedding photographer at my wedding? Please help!!! My wedding is fastly approaching.

    • ANSWER:
It depends on the photographer. Some photographers will allow it, others won't, but based on what I found during my search for a wedding photographer, most of the established ones have it written in their contract that during the time they're there, no other professional photographer can be there. They often have a second shooter, but it's an assistant who works for them.

You said that you can't seem to choose between the two. If you do an engagement session with each, it might help you decide. Although it's an extra expense now, if it helps you make the decision, then it's money saved in the long run, potentially a lot of money. Some photographers will do an engagement session, and if you book with them, then the fee of the engagement session gets credited toward your wedding. That way, you're really only paying for one engagement session and you get more pictures of the two of you.

  33. QUESTION:
Most important thing to ask your wedding photographer?
I am planning wedding from over seas and looking for a photographer in Scotland. What are the most important question I should ask as we will be booking it all over the internet.

    • ANSWER:
You should see their portfolio first.

I suggest you to take a look to these photographers portfolios:

      http://www.joannedunn.it/

They will be able to move to your wedding area.

  34. QUESTION:
Can I ask my wedding photographer to change his style to fit my needs?
I have chosen a wedding photographer and I love his work. The problem is I have cut out a few wedding pictures from magazines that Ioved the style of the picture. Is it okay to ask him to do something like those pictures, or is that insulting?

    • ANSWER:
If he is professional, he shouldn't be insulted. However, asking the photographer to produce work that isn't consistent with his previous portfolio may wind up proving to be a disappointing experience for both of you. The best recommendation I can offer is that rather than approaching this situation from the perspective of him "changing his style," show him these sample images in the context of "lets see if there is a way to incorporate the things I like about these images into your style."

  35. QUESTION:
How to write up a contract for a wedding photographer. Can you help?
I found a photographer who will do my wedding for free to bulk up her portfolio. Her work is quite wonderful, so I am quite excited, but I feel I need a contract. Our arrangement isn't traditional, so I don't want her to bail at the last minute (I don't know her well enough to know if she would do that or not). Can anyone give me an example of a wedding photography contract? Can they still bail despite a contract?

  36. QUESTION:
What should I do now to be a wedding photographer later?
Im in 9th grade and my school always tells us that we should think about what we want to do when we get out of high school and I really want to be a wedding photographer. What can I start doing now to be a wedding photographer. I don't want to start my own business, just work through a wedding photography company. Are there any courses I can take or classes or anything I can start doing to get me to an early start?

    • ANSWER:
Apprentice with a photographer who does weddings. Get a camera so you can take some photos as well, but try to find someone who works for him or herself and see if you can't get some instructions on the etiquette of taking photos at a wedding. If you have a camera you can take a few photos here and there of things that might be of interest during the ceremony or during the reception. You could provide a helping hand, pick up invaluable experience at no cost to the photographer plus possibly be able to contribute a few of your own photos. You may be able to work something out to get paid for the photos that you take if they are used in the wedding package. If I were going to pursue wedding photography, which I considered at one time, that was my avenue to learn the ropes. It's honestly just not for me. Best of luck. - Bob

How long did you book your wedding photographer for?
I'm looking at a very reasonable photographer who I know does excellent work (they did my best friend's sister's wedding). I'm about to book, but I noticed that they have packages by the hour. They have options from 1-7 hours, obviously getting more pricey as the time increases.

How long did you have your photographers for? Does it get awkward if they're around the entire day? Did you wish they were present longer? Shorter? If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay? :-) Thanks a million!

We are getting married we hope in Puerto Rico.... so does anybody know any Wedding Photographers who resides there ?

    • ANSWER:
I really feel like professional photography is the way to go with any wedding. The way I see it is, you're spending all this money on all these things, big and small. At the and of the day what do you have left??? Just the photos! The dress gets packed, the cake gets eaten, the music stops and the honeymoon ends. The pics are the only part of the day you can look back on and smile at. These are also the only way to capture those small details that will be forgotten when its over.

If you can only afford one thing, get the photographer!

I would call your hotel in Puerto Rico and see if they can recommend someone.

      Good luck!

  40. QUESTION:
What courses should I take to become a wedding photographer?
    Hey there,
I'm really interested in becoming a wedding photographer and i've done quite a bit of research into it. I know I'd need to good business skills because most are self employed and I need to know the camera inside and out in order to capture emotions. What hasn't been quite clear to me though is what I should take in college in order to align myself into this career. What should I do? Any insight is greatly appreciated!!

    • ANSWER:
I am a professional wedding photographer employed by a small company and I'm about to start college as an art major with a focus in creative photography. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure many classes could really teach you too much about it. I've been working at the company for over a year now and there's so much on the job learning that I don't know could be taught in the classroom. As for skills that are quite necessary, I'd take classes that teach you about lighting (studio, as well as outdoor) and also learning how to compose images is helpful. Like you already said, definitely need to know how to work your camera and the whole relationship between shutter speed, f-stop and ISO works. It's honestly all about having the creative eye. You also need loads of patience, the wedding day seldom, if ever, is completely on time and you need to be able to go with the flow, while still being proactive about getting all of the shots that you need. Hope this helps, not sure if it will, haha.

  41. QUESTION:
What are some things to ask when meeting our wedding photographer?
I am meeting with our wedding photographer this afternoon and just wondering what are some things I'll want to ask or think about before going in and meeting with her?

    • ANSWER:
Have you looked at their previous work?

Ask about how they want to take the photos, posed or in the moment?

Are you just wanting them for your wedding or reception too? (Do they charge hourly or by the job?)

Are they charging more for photos to be in black and white or sepia?

How long will it take to get the pictures back?

How do they want to schedule photos?

  42. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of a good destination wedding photographer?
I am from California, but having a destination wedding ceremony in Oahu in March. I am looking for a rather inexpensive wedding photographer who is only needed for about an hour or so. I will only be there for a week after the ceremony, so I would need to be able to have a CD of wedding photos to bring home to print out for my wedding reception 2 weeks later.

    Does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks.

  43. QUESTION:
Should my wedding photographer ask me to pay for equiptment he had to rent?
I hired an acquaintance as my wedding photographer. He is a professional photographer and has done some weddings before. He asked me to pay extra on top of our agreed upon price for some lights he had to rent. I feel like i should not have to pay for his equiptment. Would i pay for his camera if he didn't have that? Shouldn't he have all the equiptment needed to do the job?

    • ANSWER:
Was the lights something extra that you wanted? Not every photographer has everything that exists. I normally don't take photographs using a flash, but often time people request posed shots. Sometimes it is often better to use artificial lighting on a stand etc. If he doesn't shoot photographs this way, and you requested it after a contract, then I can see a possibility of extra circumstances. You sign a contract with an intent of style that you like. If something different to the style or approach causes an extra cost at the request of you, then someone has to pay it. However, it all falls back to the contract and what is in writing. Which I presume you have? Or is an agreement, just something you tossed around in words?

However, by no means am I saying that he should charge you. I'm still recouping from all the equipment I bought. He still should be making bank (I presume) with out the extra charges. Besides, if he wants more business you would think he'd forget it.

  47. QUESTION:
How should a wedding photographer dress?
I've been asked to be the wedding photographer at my sister's wedding next year, and have no idea how to dress. I'm personally inclined to dress for comfort, considering I'm going to be up, down, and around everyone, and on my feet most of the time (and not being the one getting married). My mother is a little leery about that idea, and so I'm wondering what the convention is for these things?

    • ANSWER:
I dont think you should be wearing a suit, unless you are a guest. If you are strictly the photographer, you should dress for the job.
Our photographer wore black pants, black shoes, and a black shirt tucked in. And we had a nice wedding.
I assume you will be carrying heavy equipment and moving your upper body a lot, so a dress shirt or suit will prevent you from moving freely. Remember, if you are the photographer you will not be in the any of the pictures, either. However, no khakis or tshirts please!

  48. QUESTION:
Which are the best sites to find a job as a wedding photographer in the Caribbean ?

  49. QUESTION:
Can anyone refer me to a really cheap wedding photographer in Denver ,CO?
Hello, my fiance and I are on a limited budget and we're not quite sure where to begin on the wedding, we're worried mainly about the photographer and the decorations, any tips on that as well? Thank you and I await all of your responses with anticipation!

    • ANSWER:
Check out Craigslist, but make sure to see a decent portfolio first! Do not just expect guests to take great shots, there might be a few okay ones, but not like a paid photographer will get (besides your guests are there to enjoy being with you, not working for you:).

What is your budget for photography anyway? Just wondering :)

It might take a lot of searching on Craigslist, but you may be able to find an up and coming photographer whose shots are great but they are priced low because they're just starting their business.

Other things to watch out for: if you plan on having your reception in a dimly lit place, make sure you choose a photographer who has night shots in their portfolio. Don't want to get a "natural light" photographer who has no idea what to do when it gets dark (trust me, I've seen the shots).
If you want details (rings, bouquets, centerpieces, etc) make sure to get a photographer who shoots those, and don't be afraid to give them a detailed description of what you want (ahead of time, not at the wedding itself).
