Lose The Weight Before Your Big Day

Wedding Planner Books

Most people know what a wedding planner is but not everyone understands what they do. Well not really. We all know they are there to help the bride. But how do they help exactly, w 00004000 hat is their role in wedding planning?

Planners are usually hired right after the couple become engaged or soon thereafter. Many of them plan the whole event, leaving the bride to deal with other matters, such as enjoying being engaged or avoiding being stressed for months on end in order to have the perfect wedding.

A good planner will handle all the details for you, finding all your vendors and get the best contracts that they can. An expierenced wedding planner will know the best vendors to hire, the best places to have a wedding ceremony or reception as well as the places that you should avoid. Even though hiring a wedding planner is an added expense they do add a lot of options to planning your wedding.

Why Would You Hire a Wedding Planner

The number one reason to hire a wedding planner is probably the amount of time you can save. When beides choose to plan their own wedding it can realistically take hundreds of hours to find and research local wedding vendors. With a wedding planner you can relax more than most upcoming brides as you are paying someone else to do all the research and handle all the vendors. Another reason to consider hiring a wedding planner is that they can get you betteer rates with wedding vendors. Sometimes wedding vendors, such as reception halls or bakers, may charge a wedding planner less than the general public because they want to create repeat business.

One of the nice things about having a wedding planner is that you have someone to worry about all the details. You also have a professional, unbiased opionion at your disposal. Finally, if you are planning to have a destination wedding, a wedding planner is almost a must as it is far more difficult to plan an out of town wedding than it does when you can go to every site and meet every wedding vendor in person.

Why You Would Avoid a Wedding Planner

The number one reason to avoid hiring a wedding planner is the price of having one. Fees vary of course, some planners charge flat fees which are usually in the -5,000 range while many charge a percentage of the cost of the wedding, usually 10-15%. Another reason you may not want a wedding planner is because you do not want to allow someone else plan your wedding, it is after all a day you have been dreaming about for your entire life and it should be perfect. You may have a wedding planner which does not see your vision or share your ideas on what your wedding should be like. A lot of brides want to be in complete control of their wedding, and using someone to help plan it makes them feel as if someone else is calling all the shots.

Can anyone recommend a good wedding planner book/organizer?
My dear friend got engaged on Christmas Eve and I'd like to get her a Wedding Planner guide/Organizer so she can stay organized during this next year + of planning.

Well i have actually made my own, with help from websites such as http://www.theknot.com and http://www.ezweddingplanner.com which were both very helpful to me.

But i also went to JCPenney's and registered in their gift registry. Once you put 15 things on it (mind you that you dont have to use them), they give you this AWESOME planner book for free! It has separate catagories for everything!

Get her for sure though a big 3 ring binder, page separators, page holders, 3 hole punch, calculator, and business card holders. She will need it to keep track of everything. A notebook would also be sweet!

  15. QUESTION:
I can't find wedding planner book?
I recently got engaged, and I'm very excited. I bought a binder and put clippings from magazines in it to save some of my ideas. In some of the magazines it gives timelines of things that need to be done six months before, six weeks before etc, and I was wondering where I can find like a wedding planner book somewhere with these timelines that I can write in. A book that I can fill out with information on venders, wedding parties, etc. perhaps something I can have as a keepsake with things and ideas from the weding.

I'd rather have a book of some sort, so that way I can have one big book instead of having mutiple binders and such. I looked at local bookstores and grocery stores and can only find magazines. And I can go to websites and print these off, but aren't there books out there somewhere?
yeah, I was told to go to borders, but there out of business in the town closest to me. :( barnes in noble, a few hours aways..perhaps I can order one somewhere? We dont even have a walmart here..

    • ANSWER:
I got a book called The Ultimate Wedding Planner. It comes in a binder format or a spiral 'notebook' format. That was pretty helpful. It has tabs seperating the different sections, like flowers, catering, photography and so on. Then in each section it gives you a list of questions that you want to ask each vendor and it gives you space to make your own notes and pockets for idea clippings.
Another good book to read is The Knot Wedding Planner. This is more of a book, not a workbook, but it gives you background on different ceremony types and their religious meaning, it has invitation wording for different family situations (divorced parents, etc...) and arrangements for the wedding party to walk down the isle. its a pretty helpful book, but I will have to say, all in all, I used the internet for most of my research and then just put it in my workbook.
Have fun planning you wedding. I had a blast planning mine~

It deals with friendship and romance.

The library in Willa's home is closing down and she has to earn money fast to save it. There's also her Joey Kennelly (JFK)

When the only library in Bramble, Cape Cod, announces it's in danger of closing its doors, the town residents have got to raise BIG money and FAST. Thirteen-year-old Willa Havisham must put her crush on Joey Kennelly on the back burner to save the library, but the question is: How?

Willa's best friend, Tina, is positive that her compatibility test, expertly designed to match up every girl in school with her "perfect match," will raise the money and get everyone paired up for the Midwinter Night's Ball. Willa, an old-fashioned romantic, is not so sure. But with a little help from Shakespeare, a Southern beauty queen, and Cupid himself, romance is striking all over Bramble.

  17. QUESTION:
booking wedding/wedding planner- can i pay a deposit and then by installments without a credit check anywhere?
im planning on getting married abroad in a couple of years but wanted to get the ball rolling with a wedding planner asap. i dont have the funds to pay for everything yet but i have a small deposit and would like to pay a couple of hundred quid a month until its paid off before the big day. (without a credit check or a dodgy wedding planner who may run off with my money!)

    • ANSWER:
I know if your in the UK and you book your wedding with say.... Thomas Cook you get your wedding planner thrown in with the cost and obviously unless your mega rich you pay your deposit, then you can pay your wedding of monthly and you pay the final instalment 12 weeks before you go.
With regards to a wedding reception if your after a planner, they again will let you put down a deposit and you pay any where between 4 to 12 weeks before your reception.

  18. QUESTION:
Where can i get free wedding material?
I am 24 I am getting married next year I was wondering does anyone no where I can get any wedding planning stuff! You know like wedding guide books, wedding planner books free anyone help please!

    • ANSWER:
theknot.com, weddingwire.com, the Martha Stewart wedding website, snippetandink.blogspot.com, offbeatbride.com and indiebride.com are very good free websites that are quite helpful with wedding planning.

I didn't need any magazines or planning books during my engagement. The magazines are basically just advertisements for wedding gowns and useless products. You can easily use a regular binder or a small notebook for keeping track of your lists and plans. Don't waste your money on these things .. rely on the free websites and use a binder/notebook and a folder to make notes and hold onto your contracts and receipts.

  19. QUESTION:
There are so many wedding planners books and guides you can buy, I wanted to know what's the best one you can
get for your money? We are starting to plan for our wedding and wanted to know which one to get?

    • ANSWER:
I personally didn't buy a book, I bought a 3 ring binder, divider, a whole lot of paper and a hole punch and created my own.

      Dividers:
General, Ceremony, Reception, Budget, Guest List, Honeymoon

Then I added sub-dividers: Churches/sites, Attire, Reception halls, Cater, DJ ... ect.

Everything fit into that pretty much, I looked everything up I needed to know on the net (the knot, weddings.com ect) As things became more definate the "old" stuff got removed, and only the new stuff stayed. This has been so helpful to have my own personalized wedding binder !!

  20. QUESTION:
A4 or A5 book to use as a wedding planner?
I want to plan my wedding in a book, so i can collage ideas, write notes etc.
I don't want to buy a wedding planner, because i have a check list, and i'd rather have my own little artistic mix.

Which size do you think would be better? A4 or A5.
Do you think i would be better carrying it with me so i can note down ideas while i'm out?

    • ANSWER:
      I'd go with A4.
Its not to big to carry around, but big enough you can be very artistic and ave enough room to keep notes and have fun :)

Thats a great idea by the way :] It will be fun to look back years after your wedding to see your notes and stuff :) and to show your kids when they are older :)

  21. QUESTION:
What is the best wedding and keepsake planner book available right now?
I want to buy one for a future bride as a Christmas present, something current, and I am not sure which one is the best. It should be a planner as well as a keepsake book. Help!

    • ANSWER:
There are a ton of options on the market right now. A week ago today, we went to a good friends wedding that the bride planned with her mother. (meaning they didn't hire a professional wedding planner.) It was an incredible event and you would never have known that she did all the organizing and planning herself. I put a link below to the wedding planner/organizer she used. She said it was awesome! I also too pictures and posted it on my blog. You're welcome to check that out too!

Best of luck! I hope your day is wonderful!

  22. QUESTION:
What are things I can do now in order to become a wedding planner?
im 15 now and i really want to be a wedding planner...im looking for books or magazines and the ones that ive seen are expensive but i was wondering which ones are better LOL

im also wondering what are some tips for college or are there things i can do during the summer while im still in highschool?!?!?!?!

    • ANSWER:
Find out things that must go into a wedding. I would suggest buying a wedding planning book, and use it as a template. Learn how to budget, coordinate, etc.
Take a look at Preston Burke's stuff, he has designed a lot of beautiful weddings! That is something I would like to get involved in, right now I'm studying Interior Design, hopefully I can work that into a career with weddings as well.
One thing you might want to do is start researching wedding venues, florists, dress shops, bakeries, caterers, etc in the area and make yourself a bookmark file to all of these. I've heard that David's Bridal has a very extensive colour coordinating section. That may be good, and you also might want to look into the extras like monogrammed napkins, centerpieces, confetti, wedding favours.
Read up a lot on wedding traditions, and symbolism. If you really want to do this just start looking at everything to do with weddings and immerse yourself in it. Books may seem expensive, but they are a good investment. Just decide before you buy it, if it is just nice to look at, or if there is lots of valuable reference information. Also if you go to a bookstore in your neighborhood, find books you like and make note of prices, when you go home check on amazon.com and barnes and noble to see if you can save money.
And, if you do end up changing your mind about your future, at least you decided young, and won't have to worry about a career switch later on.
      Good luck!

Too young to become a wedding planner?
Do you think 21 is too young to become a wedding planner?
Im interested in becoming one but im just wondering how many brides would let a 21 year old plan a wedding when most wedding planners are 30 plus, and have planned their own weddings first!
Ive always loved weddings, Ive compiled a list of all the wedding venues etc in my area, read loads of wedding books and even helped my mum plan her wedding last month but I am just wondering is 21 too young to make a business out of it?????

    • ANSWER:
If you are passionate about being a wedding planner, then you have won half of the battle. You know what you want and you should take the steps to achieve your goals. If you want more experience, perhaps working for a wedding planner is the first step. But, if you feel confident you can delegate responsibilities and be accountable for thousands of dollars in bride's deposits/down payments, then go for it.
I was a 22 year old bride, made my own dress and those of my bridal party. Next thing I know, I am getting calls to make wedding gowns left and right. That natural talent started my business. And when the bridal fashions were no longer a challange, I became an interior decorator, specializing in making window treatments.
So, my dear, go for it and do not look back as your heels smoke.

I am a planner in CA and I wanted to know what they were being paid on the East Coast.

  37. QUESTION:
Which wedding planner book can you recommend?
I am looking for something that isn't written with America in mind as i seem to keep finding? I am trying to help my friend and want to give her something that'ss really useful not just full of silly ideas like...find someone who's getting married in the same year and share a dress....yes i have read that!!

    thank you in advance!
But isn't the knot an american website? Im looking for something that will be helpful in the UK and not harp on about rehearsal dinners and other american customs that we dont follow so much here? I guess something preferably by a British Author?

    • ANSWER:
i'm not sure how specific you'd like the planning or details to be, but i was reading two wedding magazines this week and the planning sections in those were brilliant.

the mag's are called Wedding Ideas (weddingideasmagazine.co.uk), the other is Perfect Wedding (perfectweddingmag.com), they're both £2.99 monthly.
both magazines seem to be geared heavily toward british customs in general, always pointing out what they are stating as traditional or modern as well. one of them had a budget planner that didn't give so many details you'd cry, but enough so you knew roughly where you stand. another feature was a countdown - 18 months to go, 12 months to go, 9 months to go, then 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. there are directories in the back of websites for different things like cakes, dresses, florists and all the rest of it, top table seating plans for situations like separated parents of bride/groom etc....

i'll stop now, i'm starting to sound like a promotion agent!! ha ha!! but they really are brilliant, i think the published books tend to go into a bit too much detail

  38. QUESTION:
Just got engaged!! Need a good wedding book/planner/organizer. Any suggestions??

    • ANSWER:
I would recommend you take a trip to your local bookstore (i.e., Barnes & Noble, Borders) and compare the wedding planner/organizers they have available. Most large bookstores carry a large selection of planners to choose from. Once you've had the opportunity to compare, you can pick out books that best suit your needs. I choose to purchase a wedding planner that provided both suggestions on wedding planning and an accordian binder to hold all of my contracts and wedding related papers, but I can't recall the name since it was over 4 years ago.

  39. QUESTION:

My mom got it for me randomly last year from a library. From what I remember, there's a wedding planner hired to help a prince get married, but instead she marries him to please his dying father. Of course they end up falling in love, etc, etc. It's a series, and in one of the other books I think (I think) the plot involves a detective. It's been driving me crazy--any help would be great!

Ever read/used these wedding planning books?

and The Engaged Groom by Doug Gordon...
If so what did you think of them?
Also, how do you feel/what do you think about planning a wedding with a date range of 6-9 months?

If you have any other suggestions on planning books (along with a "critique") they would be very much appreciated.
I haven't purchased these books yet but they got great reviews on Barnes and Noble..... they are at the top of the bestsellers list for wedding planning.

    • ANSWER:
Books become dated quickly. Use wedding websites like The Knot. It has more info than you can imagine.

  45. QUESTION:
How on earth do I plan a wedding?
Alrighty...I just got engaged...**YAY**...I'm so excited!

Problem is, I don't know the first thing about planning a wedding....I will probably get married around Oct 2007...I've started making a scrapbook of ideas and found a dress thats to die for....I got a wedding planner book...actually my fiance got it, but won't let me have it til Christmas!!! hehe

I'm on my own in a lot of ways...so I need girl advice on how to get started! Any tips, lists, suggestions, etc...would be much appreciated! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The best thing to do is to go to the message boards on theknot.com. They have local boards so girls from your area can recommend vendors and also tell you which ones to stay away from. I had no idea where to start either but after being on there for a couple months, I've found a lot of GREAT deals, booked vendors I would have never heard of otherwise and gotten some great tips.
Book your reception and church as soon as possible- they book up fast (a lot of times it's a year in advance or more!). Then photographer, videographer (if you're having one), dress, bridesmaids dresses, and florist, etc. (Those are just the most important ones to get done).
And go to bridal shows! They start up again in January and you can find tons of great deals and win GREAT stuff! I've won waterford crystal toasting flutes, 0 off my dress, a bridal bouquet, a night in a suites hotel, gift certificate to a florist, and a hand mixer! You'll definitely win stuff that will help you out!

    • ANSWER:

  47. QUESTION:
Is a wedding planner a good career?
Ever since I was little I have absolutely loved weddings, everything about them. I've read books about them, I've stood up in many of them, and I've helped out with every one I've attended. I'm 17 and starting to look into colleges, but now I'm thinking, is a wedding planner a good career? My mom told me a lot of people don't even use wedding planners, and they don't make very good money. Should I start looking into other things?

    • ANSWER:
Your mom has a point: wedding planners are expensive and most brides these days don't have the money to hire a wedding planner. HOWEVER, in a large city, you could make a good living doing that.

Most wedding planners are self-employed. You'll need a degree in event planning, business, interior design, etc. Something relatable. Join professional networking sites. Make contacts with bridal shops, photographers, caterers, tailors, florists, bakers, etc. Advertise the dickens out of your services on a website, on facebook, on Google.

You'll have broader prospects being an event planner, not just a wedding planner. In college, try to work for a bridal shop or a bakery for experience.

Be prepared to deal with the most hateful, uptight, rude, stingy, selfish people though because that's exactly what you'll get with spoiled, stressed brides (the kind who can afford wedding planners).

  48. QUESTION:
Does anyone know where i can get a good wedding planners planning book?
I am new to the business and am working on my first wedding :) i need a good organizer. Experienced wedding planners out there, can you recomend an organizer that has the tools i need?

    • ANSWER:
I think that any bride's planner would work for you just fine. In the searching that I have done I haven't seen any specifically for wedding planners even though those may be available from the wedding planners association. I personally chose this planner but something else might work best for you.

  49. QUESTION:
what was your best wedding resource (other than a planner/consultant)
ok, this is just an opinion question, there is no right/wrong answer, all i ask is that you answer in a polite way (no bashing or harsh words please!) BUT... what wedding planning book or software have you found to be the best and most usefull for you, i am in the PA area, and do not want to hire a wedding planner, we have a consultant, but that's just for the reception. but which book/software/website have you found to be the best singularly or combined and why?

    • ANSWER:
This will probably sound so cliche but I found the Martha Stewart website the most helpful. It give's you step by step list of things you need to do. Also you can find her wedding planning book at Wal-Mart or Barnes and Noble. I'm getting married in Oct. and this book was exactly what I used to plan my own wedding of 250 people. Hope this helps.

  50. QUESTION:
How can I become a wedding planner?
I'm from California and planning is my passion. I just needs tips on how to get started and any great books I should read. Thanks,

    • ANSWER:
That's sort of what I am going for as a career choice, but not quite.

Everything to do with this career is varied. There are lots of options. Do you want to work for yourself? Do you want to work for a large company/organization?

Those are the questions you should ask yourself.

Salary is based off of those questions. You could make all the way from zero dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars, it depends on how you go about things.

I would recommend you get a degree in Hospitality Management, with this degree you can become an event planner/ meeting coordinator at large hotels and for other companies.

This is usually where you would make the bigger salary unless you are hugely successful going into business for yourself.

Either way requires a TON of work and dedication. It's harder than you think.

      Good luck!
