First, be aware that you are not the maid of honor, who's usually the closest to the bride, be it her sister, future sister-in-law, or other very close friend. So, as bridesmaid, you may breathe a little bit easier, as you probably will not be given the hardest duties, nor have decision-making authority, but will nonetheless be asked to chip in and assist with the following:
1. Weigh in on the selection of the bridesmaids' dresses. Chances are you'll be one of several people in the wedding party -- there may be several other bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids, and a flower girl or two. So be flexible and sensible about selecting the dress, then go along with the majority vote (in this case, the bride's vote is perhaps the determining factor) and purchase the dress. Then, be sure to make it to the fitting date(s) and choose the jewelry, shoes, and any other accessories that can tastefully complete your look.
