  9. QUESTION:
    Good 2011 Wedding Songs?
Tried looking online, but I usually came up with old songs or just ones that aren't appropriate. Its for my cousin's wedding (which is tomorrow) and my sister kind of dumped the song-searching job on me. So, your speedy input would be much much appreciated! :)

As far as genre goes, I'd like to avoid rap. I'm looking for sweet, maybe slower songs suitable for a wedding reception. Preferably songs from late 2010 to now.

    • ANSWER:
      -Mine (Taylor Swift)
-You Belong With Me (Taylor Swift)

      -The Only Exception (Paramore)

-For the First Time (The Script)
-Bless the Broken Road (Rascal Flatts)
-Because You Loved Me (Celine Dion) (kind of an old song but it's still beautiful and appropriate for a wedding)

By the way, I would still prefer classics than modern songs for my wedding...Please, I beg of you, listen to some of these classics!!!! They are beautiful and your cousin won't be disappointed!!!!

  29. QUESTION:
Need Help Finding Songs For My Wedding?
I am needing some help finding songs to play at my reception. My husband and I will be renewing our vows in 2010. I know it is a ways off but we are wanting to have the large wedding we couldn't afford at first and want to do it right this time.

Now, going to give a bit of detail about us and our wedding since it is a bit unconventional. We are not the normal couple, by any stretch of the imagination and I am not one to want Cannon in D played at the wedding. We already have two songs picked out but I would like some more.

We are a more Medieval family. I don't mean we dress up daily in armor and corsets but we do attend Ren Fairs. Our wedding to renew our vows will be held at one and we are going period with our attire. We are also more into heavy/gothic/industrial sounding music. Metallica, Kamelot, DragonForce, Nightwish, etc.

Our family also has a long history. I am mixed but the main part of my heritage is Norwegian. His family background is mostly Gaelic Irish. We have traced our family lines back several hundred years and have found that my family actually drove part of his family out of Ireland many centuries ago. They retaliated by slaughtering off a good portion of my family. You just have to love history.

Well, to throw in a twist, turns out a knight in his family turned away from his clan to be with a woman from my family. This was a bedtime story for both of us growing up and we always just thought it was one of those tales that parents make up to get the kids to sleep. We did not meet face to face till we were in our mid/late 20's. It was odd to find out we had the same bed time story and that it turned out it was true.

The knight from his family actually changed the family crest and colors to come closer to my families. In the end, it did not turn out well. My ancestor was killed by his family to keep him from being with the enemy.

Now, we are together and have a beautiful child together.

I am searching for songs that fit this and us. Ones that talk about finding each after years. Heavier songs that sound good played instrumentally and slowed down a bit.

I know it is odd but hey, that is us. The song we have chosen as our first dance is Metallica's Nothing Else Matters and I will be walking down the isle to Nightwish's I wish I had an Angel. I know, not normal but they sound fabulous as instrumentals played on piano with string accompaniment.

Any help coming up with other songs would be great.

And, please refrain from the usual comments of - Who would want that played at their wedding, are you nuts, you're a freak and so forth and so on.

    Thank you!
Looking for songs for all parts of the ceremony and reception. Trying to stay away from anything classical, either in arrangement or traditional.

    • ANSWER:
What exactly are you looking for? Songs to be played during dinner? For the Father-Daughter dance? Wedding party dance? Music for during the ceremony?

I'd recommend an instrumental Masquerade from Phantom of the Opera. If I had it to do over, I'd walk down the isle to that!

  30. QUESTION:
Appropriate heavy metal songs for a wedding?
My fiance and I will be getting married Oct. 9th 2010. I'm just wandering if anybody could think of appropriate heavy metal songs to include in our wedding. First off, my side of the family is mostly catholic and religious fanatics (not me, I don't believe in religion). My fiancee's side, however, is not much so. So anyway what do you think would be acceptable? We're thinking 'She Shook Me All Night Long' by ACDC as our entrance song. We are going to have "oldies" and rock but I wanted to include heavy metal.....BUT nothing Metallica. I like Metallica (I have their star on my arm) but they're too popular (mainstream) and everyone knows their music. I wasn't thinking down the lines of Megadeth and Slayer...yeah you're probably laughing because both of them are too extreme especially SLAYER. But I really haven't heard all of their stuff yet so do either of them have some softer stuff that could be in a wedding and not make people feel uncomfortable??? Please let me know...if not just name some other songs from other heavy metal bands...just not Metallica please.
***CORRECTION***....I meant to put WAS when I said "wasn't thinking along the lines of Megadeth" blah blah blah
    sorry....little drunk right now =D

    • ANSWER:
I wanted to have my rock/metal but I also wanted to keep things tame enough for my wedding guests so I went for alot of the stuff I'd classify as mild (I've been in a pit @ Roseland Ballroom in NYC for a Megadeth show -- so I like my heavy stuff). Some of the more rocking artists/songs we played at our wedding were:

Our entrance song for the reception was "Welcome To The Jungle" by Guns N' Roses.
Our wedding party dance song was "You and Me" by Alice Cooper (its what I wanted for our 1st dance but fiance wouldn't agree to it)

You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC
You've Got Another Thing Coming by Judas Priest (its mainstream enough that most people know it)
Stayin Alive by Ozzy Osborne (yes, Ozzy covered the Bee Gees on his Prince Of Darkness boxed set -- it was so much fun, the looks on peoples faces when the DJ said "for the bride, we promised you some Ozzy ..." and he played that song -- I got such a kick out of that.
Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol
New York Groove by KISS (it does show up on their album "the very best of kiss")
      Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix

And our wedding was on Halloween so we squeaked in Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult, This Maniac's In Love With You by Alice Cooper, People Are Strange by The Doors.

  32. QUESTION:
    Wedding music for 2010?
Hi, I'm getting married in 9 more days and need some recommendations for good songs to dance to for everyone at the wedding. We like upbeat music, not slow music. I'm 26 and we like hip hop and some 80's music.

    Any recommendations?

    • ANSWER:
If you have a DJ, let him take over. If you are picking the songs, here are some suggestions:
      -Michael Jackson
      -Black Eyed Peas
      -Lady Gaga
-look for 80's or dance compilations
-make sure music is censored- sometimes the 'real' version of the song is offensive and you don't want to offend your guests!

  33. QUESTION:
Would Ordinary World be a good song to dance with my Mom with at my wedding?

Others I was thinking of are The Walk by Sawyer Brown (it's a country song from the early 90s), September of My Years by Frank Sinatra, and The Long and Winding Road by The Beatles.

Give me some direction or suggest one of your own!

Wedding Love Song - R&B Line Dance?
I was at a wedding in Detroit this weekend and they did a line dance to an R&B love song. The voice of the artist sounded like Mary J. Blige, but for the life of me, I cannot find the song. • ANSWER:
      http://sfstrings.com/repertoirewedding.htm
I suggest the traditional. (Just because one has a country wedding does not mean every single thing needs to be country. Variety is the spice of life!) See link above. Check out the first dance recommendations at the very bottom of the page.

  40. QUESTION:
Do you think this would be a good first dance wedding song?
I am looking for something timeless... not a Top 40 hit of 2009 or 2010, lol. I was thinking Fields of Gold, the rendition sung by Eva Cassidy. Here is a link for the song on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGwDYBWEDSc
Tell me if you think it would work as a first dance song. It's sooo gorgeous.

    • ANSWER:
I used "Fields of Gold", but Sting's version, so I think it's a great idea. There's a tool on http://www.weddingchannel.com where you can search and sample first dance songs if you are still looking.

I already chose 1 called Lucky by Jason Mraz but I would like a few more PLEASE!!!

    • ANSWER:
Troi Anna, first of all, congratulations on your engagement and upcoming marriage. And much thanks to your fiancé for serving our country. I wish the two of you only the best and happiness together.

I personally would stay away from fad songs. I would include anything from any band comparable to Hinder in this category. Same goes for anything from pop. And no dirt rock. And certainly no American Idol posers. All of that is fine to play during the reception of course, when people are drinking and acting foolish anyway, but you get married once and so it's a classy event that should be showered with classics, in my opinion.

You're looking for a song for your dance, right?
And probably one for your entrance into the reception before that as well?
And a song for your dance with your dad?
And one for he and his mom?

4 songs have popped into my mind straight away. I hope you like them and maybe you'll find one fits someplace. The first two are going to be obvious and typical songs that probably are in most weddings or at least in movies about weddings:

      At Last, Etta James
What A Wonderful World, Louis Armstrong
      Beautiful Day, U2
Love Is All Around, The Troggs ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EXRPxC-5bE )

I would think the first two would be more fitting for dances with parents. U2 for your entrance to the reception. The Troggs for your dance. Love Is All Around is a great song, but not a typical one. People will be intrigued by it, and they'll probably ask you what song was that you danced to. I think it's fitting for what you're looking for and I hope this helps.

Again, congrats and bless your soon-to-be husband.

Wedding plans are on, conflicts with my Fiancee to.?
    I don't want to be a BRIDEZILLA!
Ladies help, how can i be that comprehensive woman, when ever he says "we cant afford that, or wait don't rush on that"...I just wanna be able to take it in without having to complain or wine.
Im the kinda of persons 'I want to get things done, no rushing later'.
What should i do to stay THE SAME girl i was when he asked me to marry him... (Patient, fun, loving. etc...)
I am very emotional right now, one minute i am excited, anxious, sad and then im upset cranky....ughl. I need to relax i know...
But i don't want to draw attention this way, i don't want to bore him with all that emotional stuff.
I want to be calm and patient like him...

Should i just back off on the plans and let him and other people take control of my wedding.?.?

I have so many ideas for our wedding BUT i feel like he doesn't go along with my excitement.
I want to do a surprise dance...i want for us to sit down and talk about our wedding song, etc..etc...But i can't seem to get him interested in the topic.

WHAT DO I SAY OR DO TO GET HIM INVOVLED???
OUR wedding date is for April 2010. We have %20 of things arranged.

    I feel somewhat sad.
Don't get me wrong he does LOVE me i know for sure because he has proven it to me in so many ways. Been together for 4 years, engaged for a year...He's the one that put the Wedding date.
But this is when i need him the most and he just leaves ME to plan everything.

Can anyone help me with some good words of advice!

    • ANSWER:
Im no lady, but maybe i can give you a guys perspective. When it comes to a wedding, 95% of men know that it is one of the most important days in a woman's life. Some woman plan this day from 12years old. As men, we want you- the most amazingly beautiful, simply awesome- woman in our life to enjoy this day to the maximum. So we leave the details to you and your maid of honor.

If you want him to get involved, make him feel like he has to make some decisions. For example, ask him what he thinks of the most atrocious wedding song you can think of. If he says: "What are you thinking!" - you've got him hooked, and it should be easy sailing to get him involved from there on out. If he says: "yes, okay whatever" - Sit him down, tell him this is serious and that you need his input more than you want it. Tell him, this is OUR wedding not just mine. Or at least something on those lines.

Don't be afraid of being bridezilla. It's one of the most special days in your (both him and you) lives. Being pedantic is expected. But don't go overboard. It's not a get out of jail free card. Getting things right is what you want, not getting it perfect. Perfect, I'm sorry to tell you, is impossible, and not to mention stiff!

Good luck and congratulations, hope you have many many many many happy years to come.

  47. QUESTION:
Does anyone have any wedding ideas, for a classy vintage wedding?
my husband and I had an informal wedding before he left for iraq and he will be home april 2010 and we are aiming for a wedding june 2010 and i want it to be a classy.

classic, is how i am describing it.
we are using classic rebuilt cars.
we are thinking of using frank sinatra in a lot of it, and any other ideas in his era/field.
also the bridesmaids are wearing tighter, shorter dresses with cocktail hats, and i will also be in a gown thats fitted and also wearing a cocktail hat with net across my eyes/nose..

I just need a little help on songs, decorations, and type of ideas that you think might be cute and classy.

    • ANSWER:
i love it! my fiance and i are having a vintage wedding also. definitely use frank sinatra but include other classics as dean martin, sammy david jr, etc. we are dancing to Unforgettable by Nat King Cole. i am happy that you are using a birdcage veil. its beautiful and timeless. We found these awesome chandeliers that are lit by candles which are going to be hung above all the tables. Candles are classic and will add beautiful ambiance to your reception. gold was very popular during the glamourous 40s so any detail/ color scheme that will include that will add to the theme. also, use flowers such as ranunculus and freesia. they are beautiful, eclectic, and nostalgic. we are having a cocktail hour with a string quartet to keep the classy and simplistic time before dinner. make sure to serve drinks like martinis and scotch. make sure to add your own personal twist to the mix too. i hope this helps!!! congrats. and thank you to your fiance for his service.

  48. QUESTION:
Help with music for wedding & reception?
I am pretty much at the beginning point of planning my wedding. It is going to be something small with a party/reception after wards where more people will be attending.

We are trying to do this and make it as affordable as possible. What do I need to consider as far as music? I don't really know anything about planning a wedding or what the "guidelines" are for what is done. When music is played, and what type of music to play. I have been reading that people choose certain songs for the cutting of the cake, first dance, father/daughter dance, etc. What all do I need to consider? What points during a wedding and reception do people choose certain songs for?
I was considering doing something by computer where a bunch of different songs we choose are played in an order we choose. How does this sound? Anyone have experience on this one?
We are doing a wilderness/nature type theme. Our date will be in July of 2010. The wedding will probably be outside and the reception at another location inside. We like a mixture of music ranging from oldies, country, R&B, some rap, alternative, and some metal.
Any other ideas would be appeciated. Thank you!
