      i would have loved to go without, but since i had to wear a petticoat underneath my dress to help with the shape, i wore a bustier type bra that went down to the top of my hip, with the petticoat, and little red lacy boyshorts. (my dress was corseted back and strapless too). Make sure to get a good bustier bra that stays in place, though, because mine ended up bunching up around my natural waist and was a little uncomfortable by the end of the night.

    I can manage to get some Knickers or something to match the top but then its the whole stocking and suspenders this Im confused about. I dont buy Lingerie much so I dont have a clue. Do I need to buy the suspenders seperatly and what exactly is it, do knickers come witht them on or is it a can you just but them and already stick them onto you knickers. I just would wear the underwear and so be it, I hate tights so I was thinking stockings so I need to have something to hold them up

      There's loads of different choices. You can buy knickers that have the suspener part attached and you simply hook them onto your knickers. Or you can get knickers with a suspender belt and the belt has the sections to attach your stockings. If your not comfortable with that idea, just get some lovely knickers and holdups with lace tops. They can look just as sexy. You could even just get a suspender belt with stockings and wear no knickers! Wahtever you feel most comfortable in.       You're going to want two sets of undergarments - one set of shapewear to wear under the gown and hold everything in, and one set of sexy things to wear for the wedding night.

      Sexy cute lingerie is NOT optimal to wear under your gown - it's not comfortable and it doesn't have any shaping power. You want undergarments that fit seamlessly under your dress, smooth out any trouble spots, and basically present the best version of your body. You may want to look in both department stores and bridal stores, and get the opinion of a seamstress as to what you should wear under your dress to get the best silhouette. Don't worry if what you end up buying is pretty plain, like Spanx. It's not meant to sex you up.

      After the wedding, change out of your gown and shapewear into whatever makes you feel seductive. At that point, you don't have to worry about shaping, so you can pick whatever you like.

      Most wedding gowns are very structural and need special shapewear underneath - it's totally normal to change after the wedding into something "a little more comfortable."

      If you are planning to wear a white dress you should wear a nude colored bra/ panties set...white bras and underwear will show though your dress (just try it with a white shirt and you will see what I mean) I would go dress shopping with your strapless bra so you know how the top of the dress will fit...you boobs will seem bigger w/ a bra on so you will need to account for the extra umph your bra will give to your size up top. I would save the cute lingerie for the honeymoon; most of the stuff is not comfortable for the all day adventure you are about to have and you will have time to change after you get to the hotel...in our case we ended up just taking a shower together because we were so gross from all the celebrating and saved the cute stuff for the next morning, it was a little more practical then.     My lovely lady and myself are geting married tommorrow which we
    are both extremely looking forward too. My fiance has purchased
    underwear which she would like to wear on her wedding day and
    the first night of our marriage. As she has been raised by very
    old age parents her likes are quite old fashioned and as such
    she is wearing a girdle, petticoat, stockings and a full length
    white linen neck to toe night dress, very elizabethian.

    I do not mind what she wants to wear as I love her for herself and old

    My problem is that she has got my underwear and night wear that she
    wants me to wear on our wedding day and night. The trouble is that I
    have always been very light on in what I wear in the underwear and

    The difficulty I have is that she has bought one piece long sleeve and
    long leg thermal Long Johns for me to wear on our wedding day and
    during our first night together with the old 50's style red and white striped long sleeve and long leg thick flannalette pyjamas with

    The problem is that I have memories of my grandfather wearing these
    when I was a little boy and I did not think he looked attractive in them

    wanting a number of old fashioned things. I did not even argue
    when she took myself, my best man and my groomsman to
    her elderly fathers barber this morning for each of us to have

    I just feel the Long Johns and flanalette pyjamas are going a bit to far.

    What should I do, Just put up with wearing them for tommorrow and
    tommorrow night and hope they are not attire she wants me to

      I plan on wearing my lingerie all day. I am wearing a corset, and I am getting underwear specially made that say Mrs.XXXX on them. They are not a thong though. My fiance doesn't like thongs, thank god. I do plan to have him help me out of the dress that night, its fairly simply to get out of, just untie the corset in the back of the dress and it will slip right off.     OK so weird question but did you buy/wear special underwear for trying on and fitting your wedding dress?

    I normally don't wear underwear, so I forgot to wear some when I tried one some dresses so I just kept my jeans one. The lady commented saying it made a huge difference about what's underneath.

    So I just purchased some spanx (for under my eventual dress and for other occasions). Do these things work well or would normal underwear would have worked just as well?

    I know I will eventually need to buy a bra but I need to wait until I see what kind of neckline the dress I pick has.
    Why I choose not to wear underwear is my business, now isn't it? I'm not the only one, though a lot of people just won't admit it

      Yes I think spanx are amazing they really smooth any lumps you happen to have.

      As far as a bra goes, if you have to wear a strapless like I did I seriously recommend those bras that go down to your hips. Trust me they stay put so much better. I had one for my wedding and I wasn't messing with my bra all night like I have had to do with straplesses in the past.

      Oh and P.S. I love to go commando as well! So much more comfortable to me. Ignore what anyone else says it's just a personal preference people need to get over themselves.

So should i wear one for the initial choosing of the dress?

      I wore a regular bra and boy shorts and I was really happy with that.

      A lot of strapless gowns don't need bras underneath, and at most salons I went to to try on gowns, the sales person had me take off my bra anyway to see how it felt without one. Many of them were better without the bra (I'm not wearing one with my strapless gown on my wedding day).

      At Saks, the sales person had a selection of bras for me to wear as well, depending on what style I was trying on. I've heard that upscale places will have that perk as well.

      Edit: I should add after reading other answers that you don't need to have the underwear you plan on wearing on your wedding with you when you try on gowns. Once you pick your gown, then you can worry about what to wear underneath it. When you have your first fitting for alterations, THEN you should bring the undergarments for the wedding day. I just didn't want you to run out and buy a pricey corset thing just to try on gowns, because it's totally unnecessary :)

As for panties, I would wear something lacy or barely there, a thong perhaps, to avoid the sweaty bum. I also would get the panties in blue as your something blue, but that's just me.       As a dressmaker, I am well aware of sizing and purchasing an undergarment a size smaller than your actual size is going to be uncomfortable within an hour. So, please do not do that. These lycra and spandex body shapers are already made to be tight to firm the look of your figure and going a size smaller will be the biggest mistake you can make with an undergarment.

      If you have a strapless dress, something tight can cause a bulge under your arms and around your back, so be extra careful of that common problem with undergarments. If your dress is strapless, then you may want to wear a long line bra. If your dress is fitted through the waist and hips, then you want something one piece as not to show a waistline bulge or line. You may want a strapless body briefer that goes from your bust to your crotch for a lean line look. If your dress has a waistline, then spanx may work well for you.

    What should I wear when shopping for my wedding dress?
    I just got engaged and the wedding date is not yet set, probably sometime in the next year/year and a half. But I've decided to start looking at dresses and am wondering what kind of underwear I should wear when I'm shopping? Once I find the dress I'll of course buy underthings specifically for that dress, but when I'm just looking what should I wear?

      Clothes that are comfortable. Shoes that are good for walking, but bring along shoes of a similar height that you want to wear at your wedding (keep in mind the height of your FI). I would wear a bra that has removableadjustable straps because you want to have to option to have strapless, one strap, halter, two straps, versatility is the key! Also, I would consider bringing along any kind of spanx or tummy concealer that you might want to wear, you'd be amazed at how much a little unpleasant tummy can make you dislike a dress, you want to look your absolute best in every dress so you can get a good impression of how you would look on the big day.
