Lose The Weight Before Your Big Day

Winter Wedding Ideas

Your winter wonderland wedding is a little more dramatic when a well planned preparation is involved. Though some would prefer a bright sunshine day, a gloomy, bitter skies looking ominous weather makes a winter wedding more unforgettable. Apart from it, winter themed wedding is perhaps different from usual weddings, and so spending enough budget can surely make your day a wedding of a lifetime.

However, if you are disturbed of how well can you make your winter wonderland is not a problem at all, in fact this may not require a wedding planner or designer to create a one of a kind winter wedding theme idea. If you'll just plan and prepare it right, by giving value and attention on every detail of your celebration, you might be surprised that you are actually saving enough money because several winter wedding decorations you may choose are just right around the corner. All that is needed is your proper attention and focus.

To begin your winter wonderland event, of course you need to think first of your theme. The theme is your starting point when decorating your ceremony venue and reception. Literally, there are plenty of winter wedding theme ideas to choose from. You can then incorporate elegance featuring fire and ice like crystal, silver, candles or a booming fire in the fireplace. The snowflakes themselves can make a great accent also. Mittens, snow angles, snowmen and even your love for snowboarding are best preference as well. The bottom line is, you need to know exactly what your winter wedding will look like before starting any legwork. This is an ideal way to spend your budget wisely while achieving the exact output you desire.

A choice of venues for your reception can affect your wedding theme. Consider, an industrial-look venue might require your attention. A bar or sports club might give limited choices. In some situations, banners or simple decorative fabric is used to add more ambiance for the celebration. Choices could be stone walls with plate glass windows with perfect over view of the snow covering meadows next to a booming fireplace. This venue idea is very ideal, typical for a winter them reception...just add a little bit of details to pull it all together.

Each of your winter wedding details can make any decoration. Your focus to each wedding details can help draw winter designs that you and your guests want to look at. Winter Wedding Flowers
Decide whether you want to go for a silver and white elegant look, or celebrate the season with reds and greens. For those who like silver, look for dusty miller, silver-dollar eucalyptus, and baby blue eucalyptus, mixed with white flowers such as roses, football mums, crocus, lilies and stephanotis. If you're looking for a brighter bouquet, consider red roses with holly and pine-tree greenery. In season flowers such as tulips, roses, and ornamental berries generally will be less expensive choices. (Talk to your florist, as your region may have different availability)

The Décor for Your Winter Wedding
Decorate your tables with simple and inexpensive white poinsettias, or fill the room with light by arranging pillar candles on a bed of pine branches At the after-Christmas sales, stock up on strands of small white lights, then string them decoratively around doorways, over tables and on archways. Bright red cranberries in a bowl surrounding floating candles make an easy and inexpensive centerpiece. Look at this article for other simple holiday centerpieces.. Or, decorate a pre-made gingerbread house for each table, and center it on a bed of greenery with candles around it.

      Favors
If you and most of your guests celebrate Christmas, an ornament makes a perfect favor. An inexpensive homemade favor is a pretty tin of spiced hot chocolate mix or hot cocoa mix with marshmallows. Also consider a snow globe, with a bride and groom inside, or a holiday cookie cutter with a cookie recipe attached that says your names, wedding date, and "truly cut out for each other".

      Special touches
Have the bride and groom travel by horse and carriage to the reception, complete with a fur throw to keep them warm of course!

Decorate the reception with miniature and life-size Christmas trees.

Commission an ice sculpture to decorate the reception hall

Use a crystal bouquet for that extra wintery feel. As a bonus, you'll get to keep your your bouquet forever.

    • ANSWER:
Well, a wedding doesnt ever need to be expenisve! Spending money on the honeymoon is so much more worth it.....can you believe the average US wedding is ,000 (No...Im not making that up)

Now, that being said...you should check some local places to hold a wedding, like a hall, a grange, a nice house which rents out for events. We have all of these things here in CT. I guarantee you could spend a max of -5000 on everything. Here are some tips that may or may not help:
      -Find the location(do some research)
-Make a list of under 50 people
-Make the invitations and decorations or purchase fairly cheap, but nice ones....(for example, my wife bought a very nice plastic bouquet from "AC Moore" instead of paying a ton for a real one)
-Make the centerpieces(an idea is ....get vases, put water and 1 beta fish in with some kind of ornamental decoration on top and raffle them off after)
-Have the food buffet style(have certain people offer to cook very large portions or cook yourselves)
-Something I just thought of....since it's winter time, maybe when you kiss the groom you could have the justice of the peace, etc...hold mistletoe above before you kiss(I'm proud that I thought of that all by myself)
-You could also find a friend or someone reliable to DJ for the wedding and reception for a small fee to them. (typical fee for a Professional DJ for 6 hours total is over 0.) I had my friend dj for us....it worked out great!

Winter wedding ideas (not in a church) ?
My fiance and I are getting married in December of 2010. We have been able to locate some beautiful banquet halls in Wisconsin, but nowhere that provides a nice venue for an indoor wedding ceremony. Neither of us are part of a congregation, and neither of us are interested in getting married in a church. We still want a pretty ceremony with a similar seating arrangement.

Has anyone planned or been a part of a wedding like this? Any ideas on what types of places to look for? Thanks :)

i ithink a cookie and coco bar would be so sweet! have a selection of mallows for the coco and mixtures of flavours etc!

  9. QUESTION:
    winter wedding ideas?
I plan to get married next winter. (January 2011). I think i want to do Light Blue, Chocolate Brown and White as my colors and I want to do a hot chocolate and cookie bar for the reception. do any of you have cute ideas to go along with this? also would it be weird if i did two fancy cupcakes instead of a wedding cake? any feedback is welcome! thanks guys!

    • ANSWER:
Consider a less-is-more approach to your color palette: Light Blue and white with crystal accents can add some serious glamour to your winter wedding. For your ceremony, try a white velvet aisle runner trimmed with white satin ribbon with crystals, or decorate the altar with a crystal curtain backdrop adorned with hanging strands of elegant white phalaenopsis orchids. If you're exchanging vows outdoors, get your guests in on creating the ambience by giving out clear umbrellas to friends and family members as they arrive.
Consider fuller flowers, such as white hydrangeas and soft ranunculuses. White boutonnieres can be handsome when they're accented with the chocolate brown fillers, but they can also look great with a simple white ribbon. Add sparkle to your bouquet by wrapping the stems in ribbon embellished with crystals.
A black-tie event is nicely conveyed by heavy cardstock and a navy blue, chocolate-brown, or even eggplant font with hand calligraphy. For a fresh way to achieve a formal tone for your winter wedding, use thick, frosted Plexiglas invitations in white scripted ink. Send the sturdy invites out to all your guests tucked into chocolate brown envelope liners.
If you want to heighten the drama, use ice-carved vases on your reception tables. Have your florist fill the vases with tall winter-white branches and hanging crystals to reflect the light from the tables. Surround the centerpieces with votive candles, and top your tables with white dupioni table linens and frosted glass china. This will make a snow-like effect.
Leave everyone awestruck as they retrieve their escort cards by making the entire table sparkle. Have the cards hand-calligraphed in silver ink on light blue cardstock paper and attach them to individual crystals with a ribbon. Hang each from an oversized crystal candelabra centerpiece for a new take on the popular escort card tree.
For a twist on wedding music, consider hiring an a capella quartet from your local high school to sing background music at your reception. Have the group sing your favorite jazz and pop songs (even some Christmas songs) to set a welcoming and festive tone for the evening.
For the ceremony, hire a cellist (maybe a friend or a student) and ask that Vivaldi's "Winter" be included in the repertoire, maybe as you're walking out of the ceremony. It's truly a beautiful song!
Give out small packages of chocolate-covered cranberries or roasted chestnuts. An over-the-top idea that will undoubtedly impress would be for you to set up your hot chocolate and cookies station to top off the evening. I just think that's an incredible idea!
I also think your idea of the cupcakes will top off the evening.
      It's just perfect!
I wish you all the luck.
You know many people think christmas weddings should be with reds and greens but I love your color choices. Think Snow Fairies for your flower girls. Dress your maids in light blue and have the groomsmen wear white tuxes with light blue vest and ties. And have the chocolate brown be the highlight color where used sparingly. Total effect oriented.
I think this will make for an incredible wedding.
I am so happy for you!
      God Bless!
      Happy Nuptials!

Something that's very popular right now are trees. You could get trees and spray paint them and hang the clear lights on them, instead of having the flowergirl throw petals have her throw fake snow instead, have a coffee and hot chocolate bar setup during the cocktail hour, have place cards on mittens that hang from a tree, favors could be a mug with you and the grooms names, also a snowglobe with a message with you and the groom's name is nice or your picture in the snowglobe.

  13. QUESTION:
    Winter Wedding Ideas?
all my wedding plans were tied around autumn but everything has changed so now i need wedding themes and ideas for the winter? thanks.

    • ANSWER:
You don't have to change anything.
its your wedding, do it the way you want.
If you want a snow theme in July then go for it. Beach theme in Alaska in January, go for it. (hopefully inside though, LOL)

My wedding is in January in Minnesota, my colors are sunset blue and orange. Not typical winter stuff, but its what I want. Although, our 'theme'' is two hearts.

  14. QUESTION:
Can anyone help me with winter wedding reception centerpeice ideas?
I am thinking about going with ice sculptures w/ our names on them with pillar candles all around on 1/2 the tables, but does anyone have ideas for what I should do for the other 1/2?

    • ANSWER:
How about minature Christmas trees with tiny white lights. Buy some kind of 3 dimensional platforms that can be stacked on top of each other. A round shape like a hatbox would be perfect. The larger base would go on the bottom and the smaller base on top of that. the tree would go on the top base and the bottom base could have silver colored material or accents with cream colored white bows and wide ribbon that has wire in it.Small white roses would be a lovely accent on the tree or on the base level.Make it girly girly and feminine because that suggests romance .Puff the ribbons out and shape the direction that they'll go in around the side of the base.Wrap them or hot glue them so they'll stay in place.. Several small votive (white) candles could go on top of the bottom base and on top of the ribbons and silver accents.make sure that you have enough for each tree. You could even stack three bases on top of each other as long as they're different sizes and it leaves enough room to add decorations. The ice sculpture is kind of Disneyish in my opinion. Go for elegance and beauty!

  15. QUESTION:
What are some unique winter wedding ideas?
The colors are ice blue, silver, and white, so my wedding will be more winter-y than Christmas-y.
I'd appreciate any ideas for the weddings (decor, food, music, etc.), but I'm mainly looking for a location. I want my wedding to be a destination wedding somewhere east (Europe, New Zealand, or Australia).
Thanks so much for the ideas!

P.S. My wedding budget is ,000. (YES, we can afford this--my family and my fiance's all have high-paying careers)
    To ILoveJames:

Oh PUH-LEEZ!!!! Nice try, but I just so happened to read an article on winter weddings that just so happened to phrase EXACTLY what you said.

    • ANSWER:
I have quite a few ideas..sorry in advance for the long post!

      Location Ideas:
Someplace 'wintery" I'm thinking the swiss or french alps would be lovely as would quebec city.

      Decor:
Since I don't know who you are and your personal style this can be a bit difficult. However some ideas that are coming to mind at the moment are vases made out of ice with real flowers on top, crystals hanging down from the ceiling to mimic icsicles, branches that have been spray painted silver or white with either white roses or crystals attached, have glassware such as martini glasses and champagne glasses that are made out of ice. Snow is definitely a must have at a winter wedding too.

      Food:
Since the decor would mostly mimic the cool and crisp feeling of winter I think the food should be warm and cozy. Perhaps you could have a gourmet hot chocolate bar for your guests to enjoy

Without knowing you or your fiance it's hard to choose wedding items since I believe each wedding should be a reflection of who you are as a couple and be custom tailored to tell your story. Good luck (your wedding sounds like it will be amazing!!) and happy planning! Congrats on your engagement!

  17. QUESTION:
Does anyone have creative ideas for winter wedding decorations?
For the ceremony or the reception or both :) Im just making a list of all the possibilities so i can narrow it down. Im getting married January Second.
    Thank you:)

    • ANSWER:
I love the idea of a winter wedding with lots of sparkle like snow, so I'd go with crystals & snow flakes. Have you very own winter wonderland. This is the perfect time of year to be finding things like garlands, crystals, ornaments, beads that work around that theme. Start searching the Christmas decorations at places like Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart for great decorating ideas. Definitely use silver & white but I personally think you could add your favorite color with those two. My first thought is blue but I think pink, red, green, purple would all be beautiful with the silver & white. Buy up tons of white Christmas light strands, use lots of candles, think reflective light. You could gather up lots of long twigs, spray paint them silver, gather with ribbon, cut bottom off flat or put them in a vase. Then hang crystals and shiny ornaments from them. Not too many just a few per center piece. I think Christmas trees in lots of sizes clustered together with nothing but white lights would look pretty or maybe have them making a path to lead guests into the reception. You could probably borrow friends & families artificial trees and white lights, of course it would help if they'd help set them up too! Nice snowflake ornaments would make nice favors.
If you prefer a more country feel, you could do similar theme only lean towards ski lodge decor.

  18. QUESTION:
I am looking for ways to have candles going up the aisle for my winter wedding. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
There are drippless candles for such an occasion. I wanted them, but the minister said no. You need to talk to the church head before you make any decision on candles. Don't waste your money if you can't have them. Good luck!

  19. QUESTION:
How much do weddings normally cost? any ideas for a winter wedding?
so i want to get married in December (since that is when i first met my bf, and i LOVE xmas as well) any ideas for colors?

and how much do weddings cost? (for roughly about 100 people) and any suggestions? thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The cost of a wedding various tremendously.

The average wedding is supposed to cost something like £16,000, but that is just an average of numbers. While many couples can wed on a couple of thousand, other can go into hundreds of thousands.

My wedding in July is more-or-less on similar scale to yours, and ours is going to come to something in the region of £5000. It's a nice, but fairly modest affair.

As for colours, any Christmas-related colours like reds and greens will look lovely, as will the use of candles.

  20. QUESTION:
What are some neat ideas for a winter wedding?
Any neat ideas involving any part of anything in the wedding would be a great help! Thanks! P.s- my wedding is not christmas themed.. Its ice blues and whites and silvers.. =]

    • ANSWER:
Even though it's not a Christmas theme I have seen people use glass ball ornaments as centerpieces. If you do them in your colors I think it would look really nice - and definitely would be cheap if you can get the ornaments on clearance. Something like this maybe:
      http://z.about.com/d/entertaining/1/0/X/F/blueornaments.jpg
      http://erinhession.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/241.jpg
Another idea would be to decorate with crystals - it would make it look like ice - I've seen people do the crystal trees. They look very nice. If you added some blue crystals it would match with your colors:

Or here are some other ideas:

  22. QUESTION:
ideas for a winter wedding in a tropical garden?
I want to get married in an indoor tropical garden during November, December, or January. The garden will be decorated for Christmas during most of the season. What are some colors I could use (not RED) and flowers that would be good for this season and location?

    • ANSWER:
I think using a "winter" white (meaning somewhere between stark white and cream", with a midnight blue and fir tree green (not emerald, more like a christmas tree). That will make a pretty bouquet for you, and the florist could place a few fern leaves in the mix.
For bridesmaids dresses, try to find that blue or green color in a silk finish, not satin, not super shiny. Reflective, just not super shiny. Shiny just gives off a "cool" feeling, what you're trying to do is merge warm and cold (tropical and winter). Blue and green are "cool" colors, so you want to "warm" them up by not being too shiny or icey.

      http://hawaiianislandweddingplanners.blogspot.com/2009/11/blue-green-white-wedding-color-palette.html

That page has some interesting ideas, just rather than the turquoise and lime shades, you want to veer more towards a wintery blue and green.

Sapphire colored accessories for the bride can come off very pretty too, with a white or off white gown.

  23. QUESTION:
    Winter Wedding (Vow Renewal) Ideas?
My husband and I are planning to renew our wedding vows and host an amazing anniversary party in December 2007. Our original wedding was just horrible. At the time I was 15 and he was 18. It was decided (not by us) and thrown together within a month. Therefor I have no idea on all of the wonderful wedding ideas out there...I am completely lost. I want it to be a winter wonderland....frosty with lots of sparkle. It will be held in the evening. I would love to hear any and all of your suggestions! Favors, decorations, clothing, jewlery, poetry, quotes, traditions, customs....anything you can think of! Neither of us want this to be a traditional christian affair as we are more new age/spiritual in nature. Thank you so much for your time and all of your help! I hope you have an amazing evening! :)

    • ANSWER:
For a winter wedding, navy, silver, and baby blue are always beautiful color choices. But burgundy and hunter green can also be beautiful, especially with silver. Even if you're not religious, renewing your vows in a church could be a good idea because churches are already decorated for Xmas. Free flowers! Definitely a cost saver since flowers tend to be the most outrageous. (Other places decorate for Xmas too, so look around, and see what spaces you can find predecorated). If you want the full out wedding dress, go for it! Otherwise, try to find a nice dress you can wear again. Also look into getting faux fur shaws or muffs. Those always look cute in the winter and are great for keeping warm. Go for a buffet for food. Catering also costs a lot and unless you want to spend tons of money on a sit down meal, buffets are usually cheaper. Also, people can eat what they want and mingle together. When it comes to music throw in Xmas songs! Everyone loves them and they will really liven up a party for dancing. Who can resist dancing to Frosty the Snowman or Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas?! For favors, I went to a wedding where the couple made a CD of songs they loved. They wrote the story of how they met on the jacket of the CD and used the song titles in the story. Pick ones from when you two first got married. Or songs you love now or Xmas songs! Hope this helps! Congrats! Check out www.theknot.com for other good ideas.

  25. QUESTION:
Ideas for a winter wedding with a little bit of Nightmare Before Christmas Added?
Ok so me and my fiance don't even know where to begin
and a wedding planner is not an option
    please give me so ideas

    • ANSWER:
You don't always need a wedding planner for everything. What you actually need is a decorator.

If you've already booked the hall, then you can find a great decorator (you'll need one anyway), explain what you like and go from there.

Obviously to add the flare and make it classy, you don't want to make it a halloween party, so I'd suggest sticking to ice blues or dark blues, whites and blacks. See if you can perhaps rent black chandelier or make the centerpieces in white roses and black pebbles in the vases. It's christmas time and most grocery stores and florists sell tree branches... spray them in silver or black and dangle snow and some crystals from them. Or you could dangle ice blue mini ornaments.

Drape the seats or wrap with bows (get the tulle yourself and have your bridesmaids do it all) in ice blue.

Add fake snow anywhere and everywhere. Change the lighting dramatically to a more whimsical silver with the help of your decorator.

Design your bouquet with darker flowers... but again all this gets done by your decorator... once you decide what you like, then just email a bunch of decorators and ask how much they'll charge for this theme and if they have other ideas... you'll be surprised how expensive some are and how affordable others are!

      Good luck!

Wedding Favor Trend – Personalized Mint Tins

Wedding mint tins have become a popular favor in the last few years. Their popularity has a lot to do with their reusability and their practicality. First, a nice mint after a delicious reception meal is a nice gratifying touch for your wedding guests. Second, the mints can be taken with each guest and used after the reception. So this favor definitely has more than one use.

As for the types of mint tins, many companies will manufacture a complete wedding mint tin product. They can be personalized with the bride and grooms name, wedding shower information and more or any...

  26. QUESTION:
i need winter wedding ideas for a minnesota wedding.?
My fiancee and I are getting married sometime in winter 2010 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We already have found the church and the recpetion site, the dress, and thats about it. I have a hopful budget of 00.00, and really dont know where to start. The cake is being made by a freinds mom who does amazing work. I really want to have a photobooth at the reception to kind of double as a guest book thing, and a favor for the guests. So, if anyone has any ideas, that would be great. Thanks!!

    • ANSWER:
I don't care for favors, myself, but if I was going to I like edible favors. Sugar cookies cut out in snowflake shapes and frosted in one of your wedding colors will be great plenty. I think people appreciate not having any crap to take home with them. As much as we all like to think guests will treasure the mixed CDs or matchbooks we give them forever, most of them will either be left at the venue or tossed when people get home. That's just reality.

As for a photobooth, I'd recommend giving Bellagala a call. They are sort of this full service wedding planning/vendor outfit in St. Paul. I met with them but didn't end up using any of their services, but I know they have an agreement with a photobooth company. It might be a little bit spendy, but I think it's worth checking out.

In addition, the local boards at theknot.com are quite helpful. I remember when I was planning my wedding last year those women had amazing ideas. I'm guessing there are some pretty impressive winter wedding ideas there. Just be careful, they've got good ideas, but take everything with a grain of salt. It's easy to go overboard.

Me and my fiance are looking to get married this year, but this summer is too soon. I was thinking fall/winter. He gets home from Basic Training in July. Any ideas for a winter/fall wedding, or url's I could look at? This is something that we are starting to think about, so we need some ideas!

  32. QUESTION:
    Winter Wedding ideas?
I had my wedding planned for fall 2009 (early Sept).

We were going to take a helicopter up near where I live- the pictures say it all (click on "helicopter"):
    http://www.kunelius.com/index.php?page=portfolio
Afterwards I had planned to rent out this large B & B:
    http://www.bearandbisoninn.com/

Today I discover we might have to change our plans and bump up the wedding by quite a bit- perhaps even as early as anytime from Christmas (next month) to January/Feb.

I can still use the B&B, providing its available of course, but what would you suggest replacing the helicopter ceremony with? It is going to be far too cold up there with avalanche risks so no helicopter will take us up (nor would we want to).

We are two sporty, adventuresome spirits and are going to have a tiny wedding (its OK if its just the two of us at the ceremony + witnesses).

I should mention I'm in Canada, so its pretty snowy/icy up here then, no matter how high the elevation.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Here are some ideas if you choose to go for it.

Venue: Book an out of town wedding venue where the weather is usually colder; try the mountains and create a winter wonderland with roaring log fires.

Colours: Choose between the traditional Christmas reds, greens and golds, or go for something more subtle like silver, light blue and lots of white.

Invitations: Make sure you send out 'Save-the-Date' cards or emails if you are planning your wedding during the holiday season. Create invitations in the shape of snowflakes, snowmen or stockings and add glitter and ribbon. For a really fun invitation, send out Christmas stockings with your invitation inside.

Centerpieces: Mini Christmas trees with fairy lights. Large snow globes. Santa or snowmen figurines. Fill large vases with colourful Christmas baubles and twinkling lights.

Favours: Personalized Christmas tree ornaments; guests can remember your wedding day each year as they put up their tree. Buy or make Christmas crackers filled with sweets or little gifts. Santa hats. Christmas cookies and candy canes. Personalized Christmas stockings full of edible goodies. Mini snow globes.

Food: Serve hot chocolate and rum or eggnog during your photo session. Instead of traditional dessert serve Christmas cookies, gingerbread men, Christmas pudding, candy canes and fruit cake. Your wedding cake could be a traditional fruit cake or a gingerbread house.

Decor: Lights and tinsel. Christmas wreaths and mistletoe! Angels, snowmen and Santas are always festive, and you can have both big and small Christmas trees with ornaments. Hang Christmas stockings full of candy canes, biscuits and treats. Hanging snowflakes.

Unique Ideas: Have the bride arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. Swap your veil for a white faux-fur wrap and muff. Name your tables after Santa’s reindeer in your seating plan. Use Christmas cookies and icing as your name tags. Have Christmas carols playing in the background. Add a Christmas tree with message tags tied onto the branches instead of a traditional guest book. Hire a snow machine!

  33. QUESTION:
I need Winter wedding centerpiece ideas using those BIG martini glasses, any ideas?
More of a winter wonderland theme than Christmas.

    • ANSWER:
I would start by 'rimming' the glass in colored sand that coordinates with your colors using a clear drying glue. Get green colored marbles to put in the bottom (1 or 2 per) to resemble olives, maybe even a clear one for a 'cocktail onion' fill with water about 3/4's , and float candles on top!

For a 'flavored' martini color the water to coordinate with your colors too. To make it more interesting, don't make all the tables the same color - alternate clear with let's say blue, or light red for a 'cosmo' feel.

  34. QUESTION:
Any good ideas for centerpieces at a winter wedding?
Our wedding is Dec. 16, 2007. I want a centerpiece more original than just a candle or vase and flowers. Any good ideas? Colors are deep red and silver.

    • ANSWER:
~Buy mini christmas trees and decorate with your colors

~Put christmas wreaths in the center of the table and then alternate between red and silver candles in the middle of them

~ Red hurricane lamps with silver candles in them

  35. QUESTION:
what are some ideas for a winter wedding with a red theme?

im pretty sure lots of people have red as their wedding color and its ok.. people won't jump to the conclusion that im a whore because i want to tie in a festive holiday color. lol

    • ANSWER:
For favors you could do red sugar stick candy with a small ribbon and note attached. You could also do a truffle (better yet, a white chocolate truffle) dusted with red sugar and put in a little box with a bow. Like a gift, so cute! If you want to do more holiday themed you could do a red ball ornament with their name on it as a sort of favor and seat placement.

Also, you might see if anywhere rents red chargers. They look so nice behind white plates and will add a pop of red. For centerpieces you may do vases with red dyed water and white flowers or clear water with red jewels at the bottom with red floating candles. Another possibility is big cylindrical vases with red (glossy and matte) ornaments in them and a white ribbon tied around the vase.

Wouldn't it be great to have a signature drink in red? Perhaps a spiffed up cosmo with elegant little red flowers as garnish? Speaking of flowers. So many to chose from! I personally love red tulips and calla lilies. They are so elegant. Roses of course would be lovely. You might even think about gerbera dasies.

Note: Red is a beautiful color. It is not whorish. Anything can be made whorish but that might just be the inclination of the person condemning it. Red is elegant and vibrant. Shame on you generous. Reported for not answering the question.

  36. QUESTION:
What are good ideas for a winter wedding (ie colors, theames,)?

    • ANSWER:
If you are a cool-colour person, I would say go for an Ice Palace type of theme with the cool colours like white, cream, ivory, pale blue.... Dress yourself up like an Ice Queen and your attendants as Snow fairies or water nymphs, also go for clear jewels like Diamonds, Aquamarine and crystal, hang chandeliers of clear beads from the ceiling and finish of with "white foods"....

If you are a warm colour person, I would make up your wedding to resemble the warmth of a log cabin in a snowy mountain complete with a fake fire blazing behind the bridal table, landscape pictures on the walls and all the fluffy warmth of a mountain retreat, put you in an exotic gypsy type of dress and your attendants in gypsy tops and skirts with bells on their barefeet. I would go for warm jewels such as amber, topaz and yellow diamonds and rich red rubies, go for "warm foods" and a lovely ruby red wine....
      Or:
A medieval theme very similar to the above colouring but make up the hall as a great hall of an ancient castle complete with fireplace and animal skin throw rugs(fake animals please). Dress you up as a medieval Princess and your attendants as noble ladies, add a handsome prince complete with duelling sword and a horse and carriage and Voila.... you are in seventh heaven....

Good luck with your wedding.... I had mine +- 3 weeks ago and wish I could get married again just so that I can do all the planning again....

Maybe it's a little cliched, but I think it would be nice to turn the wedding scene into a winter wonderland. Have the flower girl toss snowflake confetti instead of flowers. If you're in an area that has a lot of snowfall, ride away from the ceremony in a horse-drawn sleigh.
As centerpieces, it would be kind of cool to get the battery-powered snowglobes and fit them snuggly into small wreathes.

As for the flower bouquet... if you can't find the colors you want, pick up some white ones and have the pettles dipped.

There's just a few ideas for you.

  39. QUESTION:
    Winter wedding decor ideas?
I'm looking for ideas to make a hotel ballroom look beautiful, unique, and contemporary. My wedding is December 19th. I would really like to incorporate Christmas lights. Does anyone have any unique ideas? My colors are cobalt blue, silver, and ivory..thanks!!!

    • ANSWER:
I've always loved sliver sparkly snowflakes. I use them to decorate my home at christmas! If you paired them with sheer white (or ivory) fabric draped around and christmas lights, I think it would be beautiful.

  40. QUESTION:
I need some winter wedding centerpiece/favors/decoration ideas?
its a january 09 wedding, and the theme is winter wonderland...blue, silver, and white color scheme. im drawing a blank for creative centerpiece ideas and favors for the out of town guest. please help! low budget, so nothing too extravigant please. thank you so much!!

    • ANSWER:
Alright... this was my original wedding idea, but grad school and the Air Force are making me change my plans. My idea are a lot of DIY, but you'll save money and they will be completed the correct way.

I envision your centerpieces as huge sprays of dark wood branches.

      http://www.save-on-crafts.com/manzanita2.html

You could spray paint them silver, darker, etc... depending on your taste.

Next step would be to put some plaster in a shallow vase and secure 3 of those branches in the vase (yes, it's ugly). If you'd like you can spray paint the base or wrap it in fabric. The next thing you'd want to do is buy a TON of crystal beads in bulk in different sizes. Really sparkly ones, so when the lights hits them they glow. I would string those and hang them from the branches you secured in the face. You could use as many or as little as you like. I would personally "drip" them all over the branches.

      http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bridalinsider.com/PhotoSwap/crystal%2520tree.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bridalinsider.com/photosbycat.asp%3FPhotoCatID%3D3&h=340&w=270&sz=48&hl=en&start=4&um=1&tbnid=dOpuOXkNOAJa3M:&tbnh=119&tbnw=95&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcrystal%2Btree%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN

The picture is for inspiration... I'd use clearer crystals, with more sparkle. I think it would be a big wintery feel.. and pretty. On the table I would hide the base of the tree with pillar candles. I would buy 10-20 pillar candles in varying sizes

      www.candles4less.com

and surround the crystal tree. The light would reflect of the crystals and give the room a super warm wintery feel. I would also cluster small votive candles around the table. If you wanted to incorportate white flowers, you can buy roses in bulk (200 roses for 209 dollars) from

      www.fiftyflowers.com

You could either make a very low arrangement to cover the base of the branches in lieu of candles or if you did the candles place a few bud vases on the tables with rose heads in them. Now that I'm thinking about it, you could even incorporate blue beads.

To give the room an icy look I'd hire a lighting guy to wash the room in an icy blue color. This isn't very expensive. All you need is some can lights on stands and place a light blue transparent isk over it.

If you're worried about the cost of centerpieces you could do them very cheap using more or less beads. There are so many alternatives to this design.

If you do not like the branch look, I would visit fiftyflowers.com and pick up some white roses. I'd place a vase with 20 roses at each table with some votives surroudning it (I think from candles4less.com you can get 73 for 30 dollars). In the rose arrangement I would place crystal stems which you could make very cheap.

      http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.genevievemarie.com/images/simplicity2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.genevievemarie.com/simplicityround.html&h=300&w=300&sz=25&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=Uw5zFkTP0GW1sM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcrystal%2Bstem%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN

All you need is beads and wire. On the site above they are 15 bucks.. for you to make them maybe a dollar. This would give the room another icy look. You could dress up the votives and vases with some blue ribbon wrapped around them.

      Hope this helps.

What about one of those beautiful little country towns in the Southern Highlands like Bundanoon, Mittagong or Bowral. I just typed "Weddings Southern Highlands" into the search engine and got loads of websites for photographers, locations, florists ect

Some other ideas you could use:
-Ice blue white and silver as wedding colours
-Walk down the asile in a white fur cape (fake fur of course) instead of a veil like this:http://cgi.ebay.com.au/White-Satin-Faux-Fur-Trim-Cape-Cloak-Gown-Wrap-Bridal_W0QQitemZ180425851464QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_CSA_WC_Outerwear?hash=item2a02380248

      - Lots of candles at the reception, as a previous answerer suggested. serve mulled wine and a formal sit down dinner with lots of those yummy winter comfort foods that everybody loves so much.

  42. QUESTION:
Do you have any decoration ideas for the church ceremony of a winter wedding?
The wedding date is December 4th, 2009... I haven't really picked colors yet... but I'm looking for some unique decorating ideas for the church. :)

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      Hi and congratulations!

Before you do anything regarding decorating, please contact the church office and speak with the secretary or the pastor.

As a church secretary myself, I can tell you that there will be do's and don'ts of what is allowed and what is not allowed regarding the CHURCH. Now, as far as your reception venue....that you can go wild with! Whatever you like! Small artificial trees decorated with mini white lights? Snowflakes?

But, as far as the church....the things we allow are:
~ Flowers (REAL ONLY) on the altar.
~ We have window ledges so you can put candles on them.
~ Bows or decorations on the ends of the pews....but nothing that sticks (i.e., tape, etc.)....these must be hung over the pew with a nice ribbon.
      ~ Aisle runner

That is it! That is about all I know that you are allowed in most churches (flowers; candles; pew decorations; aisle runner). Also....you will want to check because it may already be decorated for Christmas at that point. I don't know....it depends on how early they decorate the church for Christmas.

      Good luck!

  45. QUESTION:
I wonder if anyone has any reception ideas for a december winter wedding in florida. ?
I am getting married in Dec 2009 in South Florida. I do not know which flowers or colors that would be best at that time.

    • ANSWER:
Well I spent most of my childhood Christmas's in Southern Alabama and my FI grow up in FL so I know that it doesn't get very cold and snow just isn't thought of.
Common winter wedding colors are Red, blue, silver, green, etc. Are you looking for something like that? Rich green and maybe with silver or gold. Or how about deep purple and silver and gold. or black and silver/gold. Black and red? Mauve and pink? Pastels?
If you have a reception venue in mind why not get clear Christmas lights this year on clearance after Thurs.? Make sure you have a purpose for them and measure your venue before hand. They can create a romantic or even unique (when used right) lighting

Use plain round ornaments in your color as filler in a vase with your flowers sticking out the top.

    Centerpiece ideas? Winter wedding?
I bought the vases for the centerpieces already. They are about 8inches tall, cyclinder. What can I put in them other than flowers that would look great but save some money?

    • ANSWER:
For my brother's winter wedding, they went out and collected small interesting twigs, stray painted them white, "sparkled" them with irridescent glitter (the good kind, not the cheap kids craft kind) and draped crystal garlend on them - leftover Christmas clearance purchase.

They placed them in very simple vases held in place with clear marbles and surrounded them with tea lights.

The effect was amazing and it was cheap cheap cheap

This is similar to what they did:

  50. QUESTION:
Food ideas for a winter party (wedding)?
I'm having a wedding that we want to be informal and not feel like a wedding. I don't want traditional wedding foods such as the same ol' boring chicken and italian dishes.

I thought about having a summer luau to be different, but I don't want it to seem cheesy so I've thrown that idea out. The party will be inside so I am trying to think of good indoor/winter ideas that are different than the usual wedding foods.

This wedding will be soon and I've already found a place that will host both the ceremony and reception but I NEED food ideas-I'm totally drawing a blank.

    Thanks!!
To answer some of your questions:
    1. It will only be catered if I can find someone who will make what I'm looking for. I think this will be hard to do, so I am planning on having my mom and future MIL do the cooking.

    2. It will be buffet style

    3. NOT sure how many just yet-I'm thinking approximately 100.

    4. Budget is limited

    5. I will be meeting with the location where it will be held this weekend to see what they offer onsite...I do believe there is a kitchen. They have a lot of parties there, but I'll find out more this weekend.

I'm really just looking for ideas, once I get one I like I'll be able to run with it and see what I can do that will be within our budget and not seem cheap.

    Thanks again!

    • ANSWER:
I got married in the winter, and on each table, I had a cheeseball - shaped into a log-like shape and sprinked with chili powder. They tasted great, and it looked "wintery".
As far as the buffet, you could make kabobs with a mixture of meats and veggies, and then a few easy sides like simple boughten foods such as slaw, salad, chips, etc. Kinda like a summer food but it doesn't have to be! And it'd be cheap. You don't want to ask your mom and future MIL to do a ton of cooking, so do a lot of boughten stuff. You can easily buy in bulk from a place like Sam's Club.
